"Mine has been stepped on, played with by my sheep, dropped, rained on, dunked in water, beat on by ducks and geese, you name it. Still works great."
"Plus I ride dirt bikes out in the desert, which means more heat to the camera and it has yet to overheat."
"You can shoot video like there’s no tomorrow. Drop it. Hit it. Take it for a swim. ... I took my action 3 snorkeling; amazing."

"better stabilization & colors ... the colors are so nice"
"The Osmo Action can record 4k60 or 120 all day everyday."
"the DJI cams, I have the action 3, have an additional color sensor to do white balance adjustment and while it's not perfect it yields very good results even at 20m. ... So no need for a red filter, which also means more light."

"GoPros shut off in hot weather all the time. They just overheat in anything above 80 f. 5 minutes of video and boop, power off, overheating. Has yet to happen to my Osmo Action 5. Happened to every single GoPro I owned. (4 different gens)"
"It’s shockingly good I’ve had it run for 40+min on a very very hot day"

"I had 2 DJI osmosis Actions (little cube things) and they would record about 5 min and shut off from overheating."
"Yeah the Osmo becomes a fireball LOL"

"claim up to 200 minutes lol but that is in 1080p quality and you need to save some of the battery for the vision dock so it is probably 170 minutes at most. ... their battery life benchmark on that is also horrible. it is 1080p quality with no WiFi and both screens off. how the hell am i supposed to see what i am recording? lmao."
"it will 100-0% it's battery in like 5 minutes of cold filming ... go in a bag fully charged and come out a while later dead"
"it always needed charging"

"Not only that but DJI refuses to sell to us here in the states. ... i was looking to upgrade from my Hero 10 to a DJI action model but NONE are in stock here ... DJI refuses to sell in the US."
DJI Osmo Action 3 and GoPro Hero12 are the default for these use cases Caveat: they don’t have the same cinematic depth or control you get from a larger sensor camera but for most trail and POV hiking content theyll look clean and sharp still + weight advantage More premium option with better shooting under different light settings - Sony ZV-E10 which is more of a traditional camera than a “action camera” but choice is really yours, weight will be a factor here but still sub $1000. More options though - [10 Best Action Cameras to Invest In](https://alaskanarrows.com/10-best-action-cameras-to-invest-in-2025/) for you to consider But whatever you choose, prioritize battery spares and a way to keep them warm too! Cold temperatures and long hours of shooting on the trail will drain power, and fast Cheers!
The main thing with a 360 camera is you don’t have to make sure the camera is pointing in the right direction so don’t miss anything. So far I’ve used mine hiking and cycling, I haven’t tried it with skiing yet. I also have a DMI Osmo Action 3 that I used to take out a lot but find I reach for the Insta 360 X4 Air more. As others have said, the editing is a bit more involved because you have to choose which view you want to save to the exported video but once you get used to it, it isn’t too bad. I find editing on the phone is fine for a quick result but you get more control on the desktop app which find quite easy. You just have to get your head around using key frames to change direction of view during the video.
I feel like the 6 is a very small iteration that is probably worth it jumping from the 3, maybe worth it from the 4, definitely not worth it from the 5P. But, packs in good features like a square sensor and aperture ring that will be well perfected by the time 4-5 users *need* to upgrade for whatever reason. On the other hand, the aperture ring is a mechanical point of failure which I don’t love with DJI’s current situation here in the US.
I strap osmo 3’s to race cars what do you mean it can’t chase toddlers around?
I bought the action 3 last year Aug. 2024. It was on sale, just needed it to record cycling videos in 2k or 4k and vlog. I love it, now I want a newer model to be able to sync a mic up. Is the 6 much different than the action 5?
I have the DJI action 3. I was able to get a good deal on previous gen bundle. I believe they are on the 5 now so you can probably find similar bundles for cheap on the 4. There are a ton of youtube reviews comparing DJI and gopros.
Yeah, sure. They release.. what.. 2 or 3, maybe 4 firmware releases with actual improvements upon the camera, but then abandon it after about 7 months or a year after it releases, then release a new model and the cycle repeats. Happened to me with OA3 and OA4, I'm not buying a new one until a sizeable enough difference between the OA4 and a new generation is made.
Ah, what a bummer, thanks. For night time I‘m still using the OP3, but for action shots I‘ll stick to the Hero 13 then.
If I were to pay full price, I would have gotten the DJI action 5. Every GoPro I have ever used have at some point just snagged for no reason. But I have used the DJI action and action 3 for years. They simply just work every time. I use a hero13 now because I got one for free. It's great, but it did fail me once for no reason, right before doing a speedriding line which I really wanted to film.
