"the durable and replaceable external lenses pushed me over the edge. ... The prior Max would scratch if you looked at it funny and then you had to do the replacement process. ... even if it was the same it'd be worth half it's price just to not have to replace the whole camera every time it's accidentally set down without covers."

"The Max has been VERY good to me over the years"

"it's nice to get the 360 view and different angles of the river, shore, fisherman and if fishing becomes catching the camera is always pointed in the right direction."

"I mount my 360 on my helmet. Tried handlebars and it’s not as good for a full 360."

"I closely looked at all 3 current 360 cams and I think the Max 2 is the best"

"It would also do the same "charging crash" my Hero 10 does sometimes, where it would get really hot and drain while plugged in instead of charge, and I'd have to pull the battery again."

"whatever you do don't scratch the lenses"

"The Max 1 came with lens protectors. I used them exactly one time because of the artifacts you’re describing here."

"I have spent DAYS of my life trying to get GoPro files to play nice with other software. ... Getting a 360 video to be editable in another program is almost impossible."

"With the 360 clips i have to edit them on my ipad unfortunately."

"360 is a pia dealing with file sizes"

"My Max is a piece of shit. ... They're notorious in the skydiving community. "Did you get it?" "No, it stopped recording 5 seconds in." "It froze up". That kind of thing. Not all the time, not even frequent, but enough that it's annoying."

"My Max wasn't the most reliable thing. Sometimes it would lock up while off, so pressing the button to record wouldn't do anything, I would have to pull the battery to reset it. ... More than one skydive I've not recorded because of that on the Max. ... I just stopped using it for most jumps (than and dealing with the footage was a pain). ... It's hard to trust the Max. ... I've got a bunch of other cameras in my life, and the GoPros are the only ones where when I press the record button, I'm not sure it'll actually do anything."

"Yeah. Hero 10 has an issue that after charging it might end up with red light, and you have to remove battery. And yes. I did have issue with Max not recording as well. ... But at this point, I don’t really care if it will not record one jump."

"low-light stuff will be unusable"

"As a year round bike commuter using the Max as a dashcam, people in cars still try to kill me when it's dark during my commute, they aren't compassionate enough to wait for summer. That makes resolving details a lot harder October through March."

"Was expecting good low light capability as I shoot primarily in dark environments."

Max2, you are already in the goPro ecosystem, has replaceable Enduro batteries, and you can attach it to your head and reframe later or just hold onto a stick and it reframe later and it makes life much easier. I had an original GoPro Max when my kid was young, and it worked great. The Insta is also a great option, but is much taller and in my opinion harder to find good mount positions. Edit: best advice is get them used to all the equipment and strapping into the board at home inside before they have to do it outside in the cold at the mountain. This way when you are at the mountain, the only new thing is the mountain not the gear.

Gopro max or max2 or insta360. The 360 cameras are awesome as hell for snowboarding.

I've had * Hero 3 White * Hero 4 Silver * Hero 7 Black * Max (1) * Hero 12 Black and I still have all but the 3 white. The 3 white was the only 'bad' one I think, one where the camera really didn't live up to the hype for me and hence I upgraded quite quickly. As for my favourite? In the context of when they came out the 7 felt the most incredible, it really was a big jump with the stabilisation. But I probably shot most of my coolest footage on either the 4 Silver or the Max, just because of the time in my life I was using them and the novelty of 360 footage at the time.

I have a GoPro 9, 10 and two 11’s and had a DJI Action 4 at the end of last kayak fishing season. I don’t care how anyone regards GoPro in relation to DJI or Insta360, I care about my own experience. I chose to stay with GoPro. Edit: I forgot that picked up a GoPro Max on super deep discount at Best Buy after I decided to sell my Action 4 and stay in the GoPro camp.

Yup. For an action camera it is really unacceptable. You miss the action if the camera freezes all the time. Had these problems with 7,11 and max. Got rid of them. This was my only problem but it was big.

The x5 doesn't shoot in real 8k,though, and isn't much better than the Max in video quality in the end result. So I've stayed with my max. But hope a max2 might move the needle.

I know the gopro should be able to handle saltwater, but it’s how my Max died. An offbrand case is super cheap and I never had issues with overheating, so I like the extra layer of safety.

I like my Gopro Max for riding with my toddler because I don’t have to frame anything. I basically turn it on, hold it on a stick, let it record, and just focus on making sure kiddo is safe. It’s so easy to reframe later as if you were pointing it at them the whole time. The OG Max is pretty cheap right now (300 or less I think), but if you’re open to switching brands/ecosystems there are some good deals for the Insta360 X4 around the same price (they’re on Chewey.com the pet website right now for $300 being sold as a pet cam…). I don’t have a lot of personal experience with them, but I have friends who use them the same way I use my Max, and it’s newer tech and higher resolution. But overall a 360 cam is the way to go for filming small kiddos. They’re very set and forget.

I just bought the original Max for super cheap, I might consider buying the Max 2, but I just wanted to try 360 video before I spent a load of money on it. I got my Max for £120 so not too bad.

I see, would 4K not work? I think you should be able to get a decent time from 4K 60p before it over heats. I just bought the original GoPro Max as my first 360, if I like it I might upgrade to the Max 2 but I just wanted to test the waters with a cheap Max.
