"I get stunning shots with my GoPro 9 - a few on this link below. ... Shoot in raw, post process in lightroom later to colour correct. No external lights were used in any of these photos, all natural light."

"I'm using my 9 in our pool and in the see as well. No problem so far (crossing my fingers 🤞)"

"The camera itself is waterproof but you'll need to rinse it after submerging in salt water. ... I have surfed quite a few times with my Hero 9 and Hero 13 and I've had no problems. ... The gopro is submersible to a certain range so you'll want to check that first but if you're just surface snorkeling you'll be just fine."

"The picture quality is amazing ... the footage is really sharp"

"For me the killer features though are 5.3k 8:7 ... Those all help a lot for editing."

"I’m still using an older GoPro hero 9 and it takes fantastic 4k 60FPS video."

"They’re not going to break either. ... My friend is an engineer and he used to strap them to the sides of planes and shit for the Australian Defense Forces, they never failed and I’ve had mine for years."

"Got it for my 5 year old to take still pics and the durability aspect."

"they dont DELETE YOUR FOOTAGE FOR NO REASON ... from the hero -until the 12 black every single one at one point or another simply corrupted/deleted a whole days of videos. ... i will not give GoPro another single $ until they figure out wtf happens where it corrupts/deletes videos. its a useless camera if it cant save a video."

"Missed a super lucky video of my wife with an eagle ray because at that precise moment the 13 decided that the memory card was too slow (it wasn't) and it won't record. ... That happened a few other times this same snorkel session, albeit I didn't miss anything else epic."

"Refreshing to see that action camera can actually be reliable and not crash and overheat all the time ... Gopro has always had a lot of overheating issues, corrupt files, crashing issues, super unresponsive UI, and horrible battery life. ... Constantly got those issues with gopro."

"Lol, mine overheats all the time. I have to keep it in the shade when using it if it is remotely hot out. ... I've had the 8 9 and now have the 12. They all overheat after five minutes if its too hot out. I had to buy a mini shade umbrella for it.+ 80° F outside with no shade, it WILL overheat on me and shut down. Every time."

"Gopro batteries are trash, lasting about 2 hours per charge"

"Both batteries died. It was cold (-15 C), but I found it unacceptable."

"I just can't stand the low light performance as its pretty bad."

"I began using a GoPro (Hero 9) for family videos but over time I found its low light/night time capabilities lacking."

"they still use a tiny sensor and low light performance is still very bad."

Any used GoPro is heaps better vs offbrand action camera. In real world comparison even the new GoPro is dirt cheap so for the even cheaper options there is very little spent on the tech inside. The images and video will look like shite. Going used you really cant go wrong. Anything from GoPro 9 and newer will be very good what comes to image quality and batteries are still compatible across the models.

Aim for 9 or newer. Accessories are very cheap and not worth anything used. You can get one huge package that contains everything you need from amazon for like $50. With 9 or above you do not need dive case or almost anything really. Chest harness and external handle are generally most useful. Going older than 9 you lose compatibility and parts availability.

:D Dude. The 9-13 are almost exactly the same. Let me repeat myself. You will lose compatibility going any older than 9. If weight difference of 40 grams is too much to hold in your mouth a legitimate way to enhance your jaw strength is to eat a few carrots or other hard foods/day.

Putting aside your terrible ability to ride and read your engines cry for help... Hills, object size/depth and sense of speed will never be depicted properly on video.... I do find however that my DJI Action 5 picks it up a lot better than my Gopro9.... Make sure to record in 4k and set FOV high ( ultra wide).

I use my Hero9 for snorkeling and scuba, it works amazing no complaints with it, for snorkeling I use it with an extendible pole and for scuba diving I use it with a rig with lights and filters.

I’m happy with my GoPro, I had the Hero9 and it works great for me, I use it for mountain biking and mostly for Diving, this is my 3rd GoPro (4, 5, 9).

Hero 8, 9, 10 user here. Go for Insta360. But if you’re looking between GoPro and dji, go for dji. In other news, I’m looking to sell my hero 10, if anyone is interested (Kolkata or vicinity) let me know. I’ve got all accessories and a boatload of additional stuff for it. Asking for 20k.

My 9, 10 & 11 are awfully good to me.

r/goproWhat exactly is GoPro doing wrong?

I have a GoPro 9, 10 and two 11’s and had a DJI Action 4 at the end of last kayak fishing season. I don’t care how anyone regards GoPro in relation to DJI or Insta360, I care about my own experience. I chose to stay with GoPro. Edit: I forgot that picked up a GoPro Max on super deep discount at Best Buy after I decided to sell my Action 4 and stay in the GoPro camp.

I wouldn't use the Osmo Pocket 3, it will probably overheat. A GoPro or something more durable is probably better. Osmo Action maybe if you still want to go with DJI.

Thanks! I use the GoPro9 and DJI Action Osmo 4! I'm looking to upgrade though.

i own both an insta360 x4 and a gopro9. long story short, with the insta360 for me is a hate/love relation. no matter the weather i shoot on, i always get very noisy video. did tons of test, different options but all of my videos are quite grainy. on the other hand is amazing because of the 360 view you can get with a bit of software editing. the software editing is quite easy to use as long as you do everything on a laptop. the gopro i always felt was a bit more cleaner right out of the box without the need of too much tweaking. i use the gopro mostly with a neck mount. for both cameras, i strongly suggest you to check for the “usb door” so you can use for hours without any interruptions with an external battery.

A GoPro 9, a 10k mAh powerbank and a GoPro chest mount. Or also a bodycam, but image quality is not that great compared with the GoPro.

r/CamerasI'm looking for a cheaper alternative to a Gopro. Any recommendations.

A GoPro 10 it's a great choice, maybe the 9. There is also the DJI Action 2. Not all second hand action cameras got beat out, some people use them gently like some sort of car dashcam or a vlogging camera. I don't recommend that much brands like Akaso, the image quality is good but other features like stabilization and sound quality are inferior compared to GoPros.

Have you had a Thumb 2? Mine works great. Honestly had better luck than with my Gopro Hero 9. The DJI claims the same 4k60FPS at the Thumb 2 so they should be identical in that case.

GoPro is the issue. I had the 9 as well and it made everything look so anticlimactic.
