"At first I thought it was a gimmick, but actually being able to reframe a shot is more than just liberating: it's actually increased my confidence to record just about anything and reframe later. ... I caught stuff I didn't even know happened at parties, for example. It's amazing. Truly. ... With this thing, I recorded the whole interaction, didn't worry about 'where it was pointed', and reframed afterwards I ended to with footage IMPOSSIBLE to get on an iPhone due to the removed friction."
"ability to do all the reframing and floating drone shots"
"the amount of freedom Insta 360 gives is insaan and u can be carefree about framing and just click the record button and go on"

"Swappable lenses. So if you biff it and smoke the lens—no sweat. Just slap on another one."
"The x5 let's you replace the lens yourself. It's a big big plus."
"The replaceable lens is the main selling point for the X5 to me. ... I have seen too many shattered lenses on the X3/X4 of friends and the guards are unusable in sub 20 degree weather (which is where I mainly use an action cam)."

"Update 2: PureVideo mode 8K is the way to go for indoor medium to low light. Definitely low sharpness for every lighting level for me going forward."
"the larger sensor brought one extremely important thing (besides the low light quality) - the footage is now naturally sharp (even at low sharpness), which reduces the need for the horrible artificial oversharpening so often present in action cameras. ... In X4 that was terrible - there were halos between the horizon and the sky. No longer here, the image looks natural now."
"Low-light performance has been my one complaint for sooo long. ... You say that you shoot in sunny days, but I find that a lot of my use cases are low-light, indoors where the performance hit has been hugely impacting. ... Gymnastics meets and dance recitals with my granddaughter, plays with my grandson. School events. Birthday parties. Family game nights are a blast with the camera sitting in the middle of the table capturing the fun. Camping, especially sitting around the camp fire, or capturing the beautiful night sky in the mountains. Nighttime swimming parties with family and friends. One of my favorite videos was in an aquarium with the grandkids petting rays in a shallow pool, in very dimly lit conditions. Even treks through heavily wooded areas can be dark enough to cause issues."

"built in wind noise device is particularly useful on a motorcycle, when people want to hear the engine."
"The sound, omg the sound. the sound is SO FREAKING GOOD for something this size. ... I was a VERY LOUD show the other day, and was able to still record me talking to people. I have no idea how it works, but it works. It's VERY good, much much much better than iPhone. I'm honestly blown away."
"The microphone is superlative better too, no clipping, clean highs and enough lows."

"Not many people say it, but this thing is as hands free as it gets. The stabilization is SO GOOD, I just stick the whole thing in a backpack and press 'record'. That's it. It's that stable. ... even if it's shaky AF, the stabilizer does an incredible job."

"Stabilization did not cause the image to jitter when I moved around - that is an improvement from the RS 1 inch."

"and they also overheat. It could be that I'm in Australia, but I've mounted my Insta in my car to record random stupidity and then find it's off and recorded a minute or two before dying. ... Just Google Insta overheating, and it's an issue they are 100% trying to hide."
"the x5 generates heat that im kinda concerned about it ... when in POV mode, i choose 2.7k 60fps so it doesnt heat up that much ... Yes ive tried 4k 30fps and its really hot after some time."
"recording in 8k with purevideo mode will overheat the x5 within 30 minutes if its stationary."

"Everything else in low light is useless unless you carry LEDs. ... In the dark, it's noisy, and it actually ghosts, something I hadn't seen in years. ... I tried 1080p single lens 24 frames in my house because I thought it would help, but no, it doesn't. it's something to do with the sensor itself I guess. ... If you're holding off on the x5 due to the low light, you're right - it's bad."
"The low light quality was terrible i ended up just using my phone and returning it."
"Unfortunately, the recording quality is just abysmal. ... Problem is - anything deeper than 6-8 meters in Latvia and you get really little light. ... It’s fair to say that for that specific use case a different camera can be used better, but this is what I have."

"360 video is significant effort to edit. ... Yes, the X5 captures the best image for a 360 action cam today. Does your brother know you expect him to do the editing? It is a lot of effort. ... And yes, the editing is always extra work, for sure. ... But do realize that editing is a lot of effort. you basically have to go through the entire video to decide what you want "in frame" on your output video."
"The X5 being a 360 camera could offer the most options but will have very long edit time/effort requirements as all the video needs "reframed" afterwards, which will be a big undertaking if filming a long day (been there, done that)."
"This is not a point-and-shoot camera. ... To get optimal results the user needs to invest some time in learning the camera's quirks and limitations *before* recording so that they're not left banging their head against the screen in editing."

"Image quality on stills is basically terrible compared to the iPhone 16pro max, due to the fact that the 72mp are spread on a 360 sphere which means each 16/9 'slice' is going to be a lot less pixels. ... Low light is unusable, and I have no idea why would would want to use burst. Use an iPhone instead."
"Video quality has issues not only in low light performance, but also for fast moving objects (like propellers) - strong chromatic aberrations become visible (black propellers become red, green and blue)."
"Video quality, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. ... I was not overjoy with the grainy areas (even when I was under excellent sunlight, I was wearing a dark blue jacket and it looked terrible) ... The grainy/noise is still too distracting to look at. ... right now the video is a bit blurry."

"the guards are unusable in sub 20 degree weather (which is where I mainly use an action cam) ... the lens guards absolutely cloud up in those conditions."
"the intsa 360 mounts are known to be fragile so I personally would stay away from those."
"And the biggest reason to avoid the Insta cameras is lens damage. ... The X5 just got a replaceable lens, and they carry on like this is genre-changing. Yeah, welcome to 2020 when GoPro did that."
Insta360 X5 4k@120fps vs Max 2 4k@100fps / 72mp still camera vs 29mp still camera / Both sensors on the X5 are almost double the size of Max2 / Deeper water resistance / Bigger battery / Longer battery life / Removed lenses / Better software...
r/gopro • Why the hell would anyone buy gopro max 2 over insta360 x5? ->Before I do, I'm not just listing off specs. I'm giving a true representation of both units. You just lied about saying some software features don't exist, even though they do, you just don't know how to use them. You then listed off your opinion with 1 spec that doesn't actually affect any outcome of use. Well your software points is completely null and void. You think the GoPro software is good because it's so old and crap, that's not what most video editors want. Saying a software is better because it's featureless and old makes you sound old and out of touch with current tech. Regarding this nonsensical 'true 8k' marketing... If you understood cameras, you understand that it's null and void. Given then your packing that small amount of extra 'true (LOL) 8K' into tiny sensors. Both insta360 sensors are almost double the size making the actual real world results way better.
r/gopro • Why the hell would anyone buy gopro max 2 over insta360 x5? ->If your not going deep the insta 360 X5 is great. Does well in bright water and you don't have to worry about the framing cause it captures everything
r/Tahiti • Camera recommendations for videos while snorkeling in Tahiti? ->If it’s your first just go for the x5. I’ve used the x4 for more than a year and as long as it doesn’t break there very little incentive to move to the x5 on the basis of low light performance
r/Insta360 • Question on which Insta360 model camera to get X4 or X5? ->Tbh I think it is a a very multi dimensional tool in a anyone’s arsenal if they are willing to learn the ropes on how to utilise the camera for both single and dual lens modes. It can work as an action cam, car dashboard camera, vlogging cam, all without having much editing required or with full control of your edits. If you’re willing to spend time with your camera and learn the ins and outs and features, it will definitely be a great tool for you. Just to share I’ve used it as an action cam in single lens mode. As a b-cam for a futsal game in single lens ultra wide mode. Vlogging with both dual and single lens modes and even photos of fireworks in dual lens mode. If you’re willing to put in the work to learn every single part of it.
r/Insta360 • Is X5 good for normal content creation? ->it depends what you feel comfortable wearing. and from which pov. personally I prefer the x5
r/Insta360 • What is a good action Camera for Sports POV and Everyday life POV ->I just bought an X5 as well and wanted to record it mounted to the back of my car and when I travel. So far I’m very unimpressed, it records well with objects near by the camera but performs awfully for objects or views more than a few feet away. I can see this more as a camera you use to record yourself doing things and that’s about it
r/Insta360 • My honest review of the X5 as someone who doesn't like to carry "stuff". ->Got tired of GoPro and bought x5 with discount with Dell via Amex. Yes, the camera looks good, menu and screen (with the 360 preview) are definitely better than GoPro. In addition, while owning Max 1, I really envy the software and editing tools of Insta360. However, my concern is that the color of x5 looks unrealistic even with the normal color profile. When GoPro released Max 2, I was a bit skeptical but for the most part, I really like the video quality output. I don't see myself shooting 8k but with the log video that I can color grade, I was sold. Sold the x5 for $20 less vs brand new (because Amex had offers with Dell before). Yes, Max 2 performs poorly at night time. But honestly, do most people shoot 360 videos at night time? I suppose most people would take a 360 camera to shoot at night in bright places (eg Times Square, Shibuya crossing).
r/gopro • Why the hell would anyone buy gopro max 2 over insta360 x5? ->**TLDR: 360 camera for the least amount on work in the moment. PM me I can private share you some of the videos I've taken of my kids so you can kind of see what it will be like** I have multiple young kids and am often watching them all by myself. I'm also a gear addict so I've tried all of the types of cameras you are looking at and use them all, but if I were to pick one camera to bring with me it would be the 360 camera. So overall, I recommend the X5 or X4 Air (which is lighter and cheaper, but a little less image quality and less battery life as a tradeoff). While 360 camera, you can kind of set it and forget it and then pull out some moments later on your computer/phone whenever you have time (i.e. when the kids are in bed). Insta360 desktop app offers "deep tracking" which lets you pick a person and it will do all the processing for you, although you need to let it run in real time. The mobile app has something similar and against you just kind of pick a face and let it work on the video. There is a new app that is polarizing, but supposedly you kind of let the app do most of the work for you (again with face tracking). You can either hold the camera on a selfie stick, or set it up on a tripod on a table (that's what I do for birthday song videos), clamp it to your stroller, or even stick it on your backpack and just have it start recording - **because it is recording a spherical 360 video of the entire scene, it will always get something** \- although ideally it is 3-10 feet away from you or your kids otherwise they will be kind of small in the frame. After that at night you can scrub/fast forward through the long video and cut out a few clips that you like. Sometimes if there is a stationary object that changes over time (a birthday cake disappearing as it is eaten or a sand castle being built) and I will turn the video into a timelapse by speeding up the video. If that feels like too much work, the X5 has "Me Mode" and "InstaFrame Mode" which does all of this in camera and gives you are video that is ready to share (although you still might want to trim it a bit). "Me Mode" automatically crops from the spherical to a 16:9 4K video that tracks down the selfie stick which pretty much guarantees you will be in the video (since you are holding the selfie stick). You can also flip the direction so Me Mode so that instead of recording whatever the handle of the stick is pointing at, if records whatever the stick is pointing at (think of it like a magic wand) that makes it very easy to make sure your subject is in the video frame when recording. "Instaframe" basically focuses on the first face it see and keeps tracking that throughout the video. The drawback is that I think the resolution is lower (1080p) - overall, that is one of the major tradeoffs you are doing, the **video quality from a 360 camera is always going to be less than the other types of camera for the flexibility in subject framing.** In terms of gear, just starting need the camera and make the 2-in-1 tripod-selfie stick. Maybe get a clamp mount so you can clip the 360 camera to your stroller (or backpack shoulder strap). So that's the 360 camera. There is also the small POV camera. Those are great for hands free videos, but I ironically find they take more mental work because you need to consciously setup the framing a lot more (i.e. have the camera mounted on your head/chest, turn them on and try not to shake your head or shirt too much and you might point the camera too high/low). They are great for 5-15 second clips though (I record it playing with the kids whether it is tag, frisbee/ball with the kids, or just hugs). There is less battery life though so I am personally more judicious with using them. Between Insta360 Go Ultra and the DJI Nano - I recommend the Ultra because it has a SD card in the camera itself. The DJI Nano stores the video to internal memory, which then you need to manually transfer to the SD card in the docking module because it won't store to the SD card directly (source: http://dji.com/nano/faq). Finally there is the Osmo Pocket 3, that has the best video quality, the best stabilization and pretty good subject tracking... but with it's not so wide angle view I found it require the most fiddling with. It is good if you can set it on a table/tripod at home and then select your crawling baby as a subject and just let it play, but I like the faster option of setting up the 360 camera and just pressing the record button (quickcapture will turn on the camera and start recording in like 2 seconds and then turn off the camera when you press record again).
r/Insta360 • Help me pick a camera for a young family ->I have the X5, but very tempted by the Ace Pro 2 to augment it. Enjoy.
r/Insta360 • My first action camera (Insta360 Ace Pro 2)✨ ->If I could only have one it would be the X5. I also have a Pocket 3, it’s great, but it’s just not met my needs.
r/Insta360 • My first action camera (Insta360 Ace Pro 2)✨ ->I just bought the Insta360 X5. In some ways, a different set of abilities, hopefully more durable, I can’t wait to continue using it.
r/osmopocket • Should I start with an Osmo? ->Χ5 is strong as a fun outdoor camera and somewhat situational indoors. I wouldn't recommend for pure vlogging but hey, if you want to have an ok vlogging cam plus a fun outdoor cam go for it.
r/Insta360 • Is X5 good for normal content creation? @+ Basthi
