"We’ve also had terrible Smokey days from the Canadian wildfires in my area and when I last replaced my filter, it was almost black so it was working hard!"

"this thing has been amazing!!! ... I have two kids with seasonal allergies and this thing has been amazing!!!"

"Prior to the air purifiers the kids n wife would always have allergies n congestion/cough for what seemed like year round. ... My wife would have to pop Benadryl till it knocked her out. ... Slowly I started putting the air purifiers in each room, vacuuming the pre filter every time we vacuum the floors and they’ve gotten so much better since then. ... It’s been several years at this point. ... They still have the allergy fits every once n a while but it’s a lot less frequent."

"Last year there were wildfires nearby and the airmega kicked itself into high gear (I keep it on auto), so I do really trust that it’s actually doing something."

"The sensors are amazing. ... Yes whenever I cook or smoke they instantly kick on and work really well."

"Meanwhile, my trusty Coway Airmega 200M goes absolutely bonkers at the slightest disturbance. When the Akita walks by? BEEP! ... Just for comparison, here’s my big guy plopped down in front of my Coway, and it immediately turned purple (the air quality level between blue and red)."

"The only smaller air purifier I have is the $200 Conway in my kitchen. Its like a jet engine when on high speed. That's OK when I've burnt something. But there is no way people are running it at that noise level in general use."

"And it’s noisy as hell when I kick it up a notch."

"All of the conventional options recommended won’t cut it if you’re being serious. ... I have a few coway airmegas and blueairs and they don’t do much for real VOCs/smoke. ... My airmega has like 1lb of carbon, I’d recommend an allerair- I’ve got two airmedic 6 pro and the difference is remarkable. I think they have 25+ lbs of carbon."

"I bought it to reduce VOCs, however according to my sensor it loses effectiveness in under a month, then you are on the hook for a new $300 filter. ... A replacement filter lasted a similar amount of time for VOC effectiveness."

"So I purchased Austin Air Healthmate+ HM450 believing the higher carbon content in its filters will be more effective but after I tested it today it is also not making much of a difference. ... Austin Air HM450 has 15 lbs of activated carbon. Is that also not enough to make a dent? ... There’s no wildfire smoke currently. But my Voc is at around 225ppb. And no matter for how long I run the purifier, it stays at that level."

"I literally just bought the Airmega 350 on Amazon and immediately regretted since I can't find the replacement filters for sale anywhere. ... Coway finally responded but wasn't helpful. They said they don't know when the filters for the 350 will be released."

"450 is round. New design. Not as good but more trendy. ... Higher claimed CADR. It is round so that number will go down rapidly. ... The VERY SHORT version, although ... there's a sticky ... is that round units are not inferior due to their shape. They're inferior because ALMOST WITHOUT EXCEPTION they have: * No removable pre-filter * Minimal Carbon, placed after the main filter * Deformable main filter * Smaller fans which have to spin faster to move more air therefore have a shorter lifespan * Shorter filter life leading to more costly replacement * Questionable filter efficiency, since it's difficult to manufacture a deformable HEPA filter. Levoit in particular claimed their filters were HEPA but they weren't at the time. They might be now, since they've started shipping them reinforced. * Instructions to VACUUM YOUR FILTERS, which pretty much means they're not HEPA. ... The airmega round units are, unfortunately, no exception."

"filter replacements can get pricey though ... filters are WAY overpriced considering you can get the machine with 2 filters for $120.."

You have an old car that's awesome! I also have an old car. What kind of car do you have? I drive a 94 Mustang Cobra. I have a coway Air Mega 250, and I have been happy with it.

Highly recommend coway airmega 250 which is out of stock on their website but in stock on Amazon. I bought used like new for a little under 300 US which as of this comment used like new is still in stock. My partner has severe asthma to dust and cats, he was waking up nightly having full asthma attacks. Since we've gotten it a week ago (we run it most of the time) he hasn't had a bad asthma attack. The used like new was brand new for me, it just came in the wrong product box (no original packaging). It was recommended to me here by /u/UncleGurm who is the air pro-ifier.

I’m immunocompromised and always have an air purifier (Coway AirMega 150) running next to my lectern. It’s nearly silent on the lowest setting. I also have a larger one at home (250?) that is EXTREMELY loud, so I wouldn’t recommend a big one. The building I teach in is pretty modern, so I have to assume that the ventilation is quite good even though my classroom doesn’t have any exterior windows. I’ve been told many times I’m quiet/soft spoken (despite feeling like I’m always yelling), so masking while teaching is out of the question for me. I also tell my students on the first day of class that I am immunocompromised and therefore that if I do get sick, I am likely to get very sick and be gone for several weeks (sometimes I include the fact that my body literally cannot make antibodies, which is super fun). This info seems to stick with them, as I’ve had many students email me to let me know they’re sick and staying home because they remembered what I said. I am also pleasantly surprised that most students wear a mask for a few days when they return. I never mention masks at all and have never asked for anyone to wear them, fwiw. I also have a couple bottles of hand sanitizer in the room and use it very, very frequently (literally any time I touch a shared surface). I follow the same precautions in my office. I’ve had COVID three times, and two of the three times it was during the summer (I don’t teach summers). The third time I’m 99% sure I got it at a concert. Your mileage may vary, but I feel like my strategies work fine for me and at the very least give me peace of mind.

I’ve been loving my Coway Airmega 250S for over a year now—super quiet, catches dust and pet hair like a champ, and the air just feels fresher, especially in the bedroom. Filters last forever too if you vacuum the pre-filter regularly. Totally worth it if you’re okay with the upfront cost!

r/AirPurifiersUnderstanding My Needs in an Air Purifier
9 months ago

You seem to understand what you need. You took into account your high ceilings which is good. Most CADR is measured with the average 8 foot ceiling so your numbers are higher which you already posted. Keep in mind CADR is measured at maximum fan speed, so you’ll want a purifier that can deliver CADR over your actual square footage so that way you can run the units at medium speed. Some people run them at max, but most do medium since it’s a tolerable noise level. Since you’ve been on this sub, I assume you know that purifiers are only good to clean the air in the room they’re placed in. They don’t clean air in other rooms because of the way air moves around homes, which isn’t much. I’m no expert and I’m kinda new to purifiers too and there’s much more knowledgeable people on this sub. I can’t speak to other brands, but I like my Coway Airmega 250 that I got. It says it covers up to 930 sq. Ft. And 2 air changes per hour in that amount of space at max speed. I find that the unit may be a little small for the area I’m cleaning which is the living room and kitchen. I keep it positioned between the 2 and it takes longer to clean the air in each room positioned like that vs. being placed in the actual room, but it gets the job done I feel like and I’m happy with it. Not sure how much help that was, but I would look at the Coway Airmega series. Pricy, but good units. I haven’t tried any others but I know air doctor is good but very expensive. Good luck

r/AirPurifiersOne air purifier for multiple rooms or one for each room? Recommendations?

Air purifiers can’t go into other rooms generally speaking, so you will need multiple purifiers. Whatever room they’re in you can expect the air to be exchanged regularly, but even with a good one in the hallway it would barley exchange the air in the rooms because of the way air circulation works. Having fans going in rooms and pushing air into the hallway to get purified is one solution, but the best solution will be multiple air purifiers. If I were you, I’d get a purifier for the computer room and bedroom. I have a pretty small house and I have a Coway Airmega 250 and I love it. I keep it between my living room and kitchen and it does a good job of purifying the air in those rooms. Sometimes I take it to my bedroom at night. It’s kinda heavy but it’s easy enough to move

I have a AirMega 250 and another cheaper unit in my "cat room" (opposite side of house). I prefer the AirMega in bedroom not as light polluting. I change the filter once a year and its around $80 for the unit.

why not go for airmega 250 coway instead of 150? It has bigger coverage and it would better cover your bedroom space. If considering Xiaomi, go for simple 4 (not the pro) since pro has ionizer which generates ozone ( not good) philips- not sure how is the filter availability situation presently but I have heard in the past replacement filters were not available easily Qobo- no idea Dyson- not needed, coway or Xiaomi can clean the air as good as Dyson

Great units..Coway is GOAT. I have 5 and they have been running for about 5 years. The filters are readily available on Amazon with many 3rd party brands to choose from, just use do your due diligence and read reviews. Very quiet, and only ramps up when it needs to in Auto mode. It is awesome at detecting impurities and air quality. I use them in a modern home/new construction running a whole house filtered and HVAC. These babies still do a lot of work to keep the air clean even in my setup. They are very good at odors..just remember to watch the indicator to change out the activated carbon filter when it is time. In the process of receiving a 6th unit that is on sale now at Amazon Prime Day deals. It’s a little Bigger for the Kitchen and dining area and looks great..an Conway Airmega 250.

I noticed the same recently. Each model's price is up by 6,000 when compared to my last purchase a few years ago. But having said that, I only trust Coway. All these models offer excellent performance and reliability - AirMega 250, AirMega Storm and AirMega 150.
