"its night mode is whisper quiet"
"how quiet it is. ... it's remained silent at night after a couple of years."

"Been using them for about four years working out in my gym, and cycling daily (45+ minutes on a bicycle outdoors)."

"I’ve seen it reduce heavy smoke pollution by almost 99.6% in just 30 minutes"
"I have a mold allergy and when our air purifier kept showing red I thought it was broken… no turns out there was mold on a shelf we threw out, the red light stopped. But through that whole time, I wasn’t sneezing or having any issues"
"PM2.5 fell from 35 to under 5 in 20 min."

"you can run constantly if the air is really polluted. ... I have very bad asthma and it was able to clean my house air during forest fire season. It worked so so well."
"I’ve seen it reduce heavy smoke pollution by almost 99.6% in just 30 minutes"
"We’ve also had terrible Smokey days from the Canadian wildfires in my area and when I last replaced my filter, it was almost black so it was working hard!"

"Not only are official filters likely to be available, there are tons of aftermarket options available as well. ... If filter availability is a primary concern, the AP-1512HH or 200m are tops."
"Replacement filters are like $12-15 each and I can usually go 12 months before needing to change."
"The filters are readily available. I blow them out with an air compressor outside and reuse them until I can’t."

"The Pro X for example is marketed at over 4,000 square feet but it's only one air change. That won't be enough to help with odors."
"My Levoit Core 200s is advertised on Amazon as providing coverage for a 1,000 square foot room. In reality, it *could change the air in a 1,000 square foot space but only once in an hour on it's highest speed. You want more air changes per hour. Going by 5 air changes an hour on it's highest fan speed, the Core 200s covers 200 square feet."
"The mini is much too small for a bedroom."

"the medify one sounds horrible- it has a weird high pitch and i can’t stand it even on the very lowest setting. ... i actually sent it back and they replaced it and the second one sounds the same."
"The Germ Guardian air purifiers from Costco are incredibly noisy and create a constant high-pitched noise at *any* setting."
"Levoit Core 300 was decent on specs, but it hummed just enough to wake the youngest every other night."

"Also I just put it in the bathroom w my bf while he poops. No change in the air reading or smell of the bathroom."
"Just stay away from the Honeywell HPA models. They all develop a burning smell. I've swapped my 2 out a total of 6 times."
"They’ve massively oversold how large of a space this device is suited for. ... I found it did nothing for odors. ... There is basically no carbon filter in this so it won’t filter odors at all… ... Correct. I wish I had realized that before I bought it but oh well. The carbon sheet is advertised to make one think it will help with odors. Live and learn"

"the filter costs have you replacing filters every 3 or 4 months with full use."
"so are Coway and Blue Air when you add up the cumulative price of filters. ... And, I find I need filter replacements much more often than recommended further increasing the cost."
"DO not buy their filters directly from them - way overpriced"

"I really despise levoit. I'll never buy anything from them again. Their customer service and "warranty" are awful ... Bought two smart humidifiers, both were defective. Reached out and they sent me a replacement, which also was defective. ... Wanted to just return them and get a refund, but they only offered a credit. The credit I got was less than the current cost of a new product, so I would've had to pay even more. ... By the way, this whole process took more than a month. Customer service was extremely slow with updates."
"The problem with Coway is poor customer service. ... They tell me to return it to Amazon, but I don't have the original package. So I'm supposed to purchase a new box from them to return to Amazon. Amazon won't accept it anyway because it's outside the 30 day return window. Coway's solution is to stop responding to emails."
"once they no longer support the router they throttle your internet speed so you can buy a new one. ... when it was no longer being supported with the last update it was throttle to 200 mbs."
My recommendation (had three in an apartment for eight years, they didn’t miss a beat) is the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty. Not cheap (~$200) but wait for a sale/coupon if you can. https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-air-purifier/
You’re going to want a Coway. https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-air-purifier/
I bought two air purifiers just last week after reading this sub! Coway 150 and ap-1512HH(W), they were on sale on Amazon.ca and I read somewhere I can use the carbon pellet filter from the AP-1512HHS in the non S version. So far so good!
I have a Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty that I brought to all my classrooms last year! There is definitely evidence that an air purifier can reduce illness in classrooms. And I tell my students not to come in if they’re sick! I think an air purifier is a great idea and an easy way to reduce illness. Hope everything goes well for you this year.
I have the coway airmega which is the wirecutter top pick (https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-air-purifier/) I liked it enough to buy a second one for my home. It has been great and it does make a difference.
Was comparing the sales and planning on getting another Coway air purifier for my house cause I loved the previous two we got. Seems like you get a better deal on cowaymega.com. Dropping this here for anyone who needs!
Wanted to clarify this is the Coway Airmega Mighty or Coway AP-1512HH Mighty air purifier, the same one Wirecutter has been pushing the last ten years or so, in case anyone was confused!
I saw the Coway AP-3008FH in a client's office once, it looked HUGE so I would never consider getting it for my apartment. For 1000 square foot you could go for the Coway Mighty AP-1512HH. I have two units in my apt. Or if you want something that overcovers, you could check out the 350 or 450 for a big open space.
I've had a coway AP-1512HH running for years now. Works really well except that the fan speed modes are super quiet, quiet and ultra loud. I also do not like the blue led but just cover it. Big plus is that I can buy filters on Amazon for cheap. It was listed as best recommended at some as far as I remember.
This is my recommendation. We have a couple of these running on low all the time (we live on a busy street and they’re nice to have for our fire season).
We have the airmega that [looks like an iPod](https://a.co/d/8WCcJ0z) and love it. It goes on sale every once in a while, I think.
I tried a few of those models at home, and the Coway AP-1512HH has been the one I’ve stuck with.
The Coway Mighty - we liked it so much we ended up with another one for our second floor. I have been using the [Coway AirMega](https://amzn.to/49gjTgt) for years. It has also been [Wirecutter’s](https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-air-purifier/) top pick for a long time.
