lexluthor_i_am 1.0I've went through over a dozen air purifiers in the past ten years. I've come to love Levoit. I have the Levoit 400S-P. And i can control it with my phone which is nice.
olivde 1.0I like the Honeywell HPA series - I have a HPA 5300. It is HEPA. I like that there are various pre-filters you can buy to tailor to your needs. I use a A pre-filter, an S pet-odor filter, and the standard HEPA filters. The unit circulates air in a large room about 3 times per hour. Noise levels are fantastically quiet, and the auto setting allows me to run the unit 24/7 without changing anything. While it’s lacking smart features, I don’t feel I need it. I also have a Levoit 400S-P that I run a different room, without the ionizer. It gives me comparable performance as the Honeywell but I don’t like lack of filter options, is slightly more expensive to maintain, and slightly noisier.
sissasassafrastic 1.0This Levoit would be a better choice, yes. u/NICBROWWN's suggestion is also worth considering. The [refurbished Winix C545](https://www.winixamerica.com/product/certified-refurbished-c545-air-purifier/) has higher Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs) than the Levoit model. Keep in mind refurbished Winix units are limited stock and offer a 1 year warranty. NB: if you have pet birds, keep Winix's PlasmaWave (a bipolar ionizer) off, as birds are far more sensitive to ozone than humans.

The coverage rating is misleading marketing my Levoit. The 1,718 sq. ft. is at 1 Air Change per Hour (ACH). You need a bare minimum of 4.8 - 5 ACH. But that's not the most important metric. I would instead go by Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs). Using the [AHAM 2/3 rule](https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/), the [Levoit Core 400S](https://levoit.com/products/core-400s-smart-true-hepa-air-purifier) has a Smoke CADR of 231 CFM. Therefore the largest room size it should be used in is 346.5 sq. ft., assuming an 8 ft. high ceiling.
The stuffiness you describe may due to higher indoor relative humidity (RH) and/or carbon dioxide build-up. High RH can lead to mold and mildew growth, which in turn produces odorous mVOCs (microbial Volatile Organic Compounds). Purifiers only capture *airborne* mold and mildew; they can't mitigate moisture sources or pathways. A dehumidifier would be much better instead. I'm guessing you have one or more ductless mini splits for air conditioning? Unfortunately "whole home" dehumidifiers require ductwork. You would need to buy a freestanding dehumidifier instead. I'd prefer the Levoit or Philips over Xiaomi or Blueair. Just keep in mind that Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs) are typically given for the highest airflow speed/setting *only*. Lower settings have lower CADRs, which reduces cleaning effectiveness.
Not a big fan of the Levoit Core series purifiers. I think the Levoit Vital series and the EverestAir model are superior because they use separate permanent pre-filters. That and I've read about more issues (malfunctions or unit failures) with the Core series. Ultimately the right purifier depends on pollution levels, health conditions like allergies, and room volume (length x width x height).

BizarreMoose 0.6If you buy one I check for something along the lines of True Hepa filters to catch the finer particles and activated carbon pellets to help out with odours. There are so many reviews comparing different brands, you'll usually see the same few at the top of the charts and the units will state what size of a room they're ideal for. It would come down to finer details like noise levels, filter replacement costs and if you care about added digital tech. Another deal breaker could be if it has an ozone feature which can be a health risk. It could even just come down to if something is on sale. After checking around and comparing reviews I settled on a Levoit Core 400s on sale and it does a good job with smoke where I've had this since the last bout of forest fires a few years ago, but it does lose that "whisper quiet" feature over time. Went for it since it also helps a good deal with pet hair and odours. The cost of the filter replacements keep going up though and the secondhand ones can be pretty cheaply made which makes me want to consider another brand or even the DIY method whenever a replacement seems necessary. I like to use them for that too! Just not if it starts to get a little bit clunky with a wobbly fan breaking up the flow of sound, but I have super sensitive hearing. If I keep the 400s on a speed of 1 or above it works just fine, just not great anymore at the sleeping level for me. It's a good brand and their current square shaped fan the Vital 200s is supposed to be even better. Overall the ones mentioned so far Levoit, Blue Air and Coway are all pretty reliable options that help a lot with smoke filtration.
