beyondplutola 1.0Can you return it still? Your square footage is the max a 100s may be able to do while running full blast if you’re dealing with an active smoke situation. You’d be better off with a 200S Vital. Look for something with a CADR number at least equal to your square footage. Also, if you have a central air forced HVAC, you can put a MERV 13 filter temporarily into the return and run it on fan mode only for additional filtration.
I think this gets overstated. The Core series pre-filter just comes with the filter. It’s not much harder to vacuum those than the separate ones in the flat panel units. I say this an owner of Cores, Vitals and an EverestAir.

Whirlpool-7763 1.0Levoit Vital 200s gets great reviews. I read a ton of this stuff and I don't see people reporting those units malfunctioning. Over the years, yes, I've seen reports of issues with a whining noise on some units (the 300 and 400) but that was years ago and Levoit addressed it and also offered replacements. They also have good service. I have a Core 300 that is still going from 2020. A Core 300s. And most recently a Vital 100s and Vital 200s. If sized right, these latter two are what you should look at - not the Core units. Those were good in their day, but the Vital units are superior. As for the Hepa question, yes the Vital units are, on sleep mode, and the "scandal" about all of that was drummed up by a competitor - who makes inferior units.

BoldPotatoFlavor 0.6All HEPA filters are disposable maintenance items, some last longer than others. For the price I’d highly recommend an MA-25 instead. I only recommend the Levoit 100 S or 200 S if you are using it *specifically* for pet hair and dander otherwise they are not that great in my opinion. I’ve owned 6 Levoit products and I wish I had spent the money on a different brand for 5 of them.
I bought 5 Vital (100 + 200) devices and 1 Core. The vitals barely reduced PM when I used them. I switched to Coway and Medify and had much better results.

No since they don't have hepa filter, the core are just reg dust with active carbon, you need ether 100s or 200s id go with 200s if you can
benson733 0.4These units similar to the one I have become saturated really quick. I personally use a levoit 200s and it's awesome, but after the first week the carbon stops doing its job, but I'm okay with that, if I get cooking odors etc I'll usually just open my windows.
Boy0Nacho 0.4I use a levoit vital 200s with the green toxin filter. It works quite well. Turn the fan up on max while your dad smokes and on auto after 10 to 15 mins when not smoking. Does a great job for me. Always get an air purifier that has HEPA filtration to trap fine tobacco smoke particles and also activated charcoal to eliminate and trap odors and VOCs. Im also in Canada.

If you're concerned about longevity, you can always go with the 5520/5510 (which is just their new version of the sorta-same machine). However, I don't know what the cost differential would be in England. A closer comparison (in terms of power) would be the "Levoit Vital 200s." Which I don't know why Levoit went with this naming, because it's so confusing. But that model has a CADR of 250 CFM. Again, apologies I don't know the pricing for England. IMO, it's a bit of a toss-up and I don't think you can go wrong. I'd personally prioritize power/CADR over smartphone functionality, mostly because I found auto good enough throughout the day, unless I need to cook dinner. Monitoring is nice, but I just don't see myself doing too much with the data itself. My personal order of importance: 1. Budget 2. Power 3. Reputation / quality of company (will they answer support tickets, warranty, etc.) 4. Aesthetics / Size (does it fit in my apartment and is it not an eye sore) 5. Bells and whistles
Caprichoso1 0.4According to U.S. Consumer Reports (subscription required) where the top rated model got an 85 the Winix 9800 rated 74 Coway 200M (closest model I could find) rated 57 Levoit 200s rated 59. 250 likely would have same rating. For 400 square feet you would likely have to run a filter at high speed to allow the clean air bubble to cover the entire room. If the noise would be an issue you could run multiple filters on a low speed.
