We used the Yoyo one, very convenient. Goes everywhere and easily foldable if there’s nothing underneath. Japan is very baby friendly, elevator and baby rooms everywhere. Take a lots of baby snacks with you 😅. And make sure to bring a baby carrier, especially for places that aren’t stroller-friendly.

I have a Yoyo+ for my first born (we don’t need anything that has big wheels) and we do not have a car. It is very lightweight and sturdy! For our 2nd born we bought a Joolz Aer+ as we I prefer one hand closure

Yoyo can go into bassinet mode, so can be used from day 1. I have the bugaboo butterfly. It doesn’t go quite lay-flat, but it gets pretty close, and I used it without a car seat (Nuna pipa adaptors available) from just about 4 months. The deciding factor to me was true single-handed fold; absolute game-changer.

I remember when I was looking at strollers I had to narrow down the variables I was comparing, and at the time for me it was weight because we lived in a second floor walk up. So I searched for which stroller was the lightest weight and we ended up with the YoYo+

Parisian with kids too. Everyone here use a Yoyo+, they are smoll enough you can pass the turnstile with the kid in it, you can fold them and carry them if needed (you may see a demo of a mother or father holding their kid in one hand and unfolding the stroller in a single move of the other hand), you can carry them kids included in the metro stairs. It's not always convenient, it require a good physical condition, and during peak time you may not be able to use the public transportation at all. Take a stroller as small as the Yoyo+, or don't take one as it would be more a burden than anything.

We use a Yoyo - got it second hand from FB marketplace; ours was a new style one so cost £200 second hand but I also got an old style one for £30 for a friend so definitely worth looking. We don’t use ours often any more so it’s really handy having one that folds up easily and is lightweight.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s a pram that does everything you want… there are some that do a sort of in-between which people have recommended already (Joolz Aer, Bugaboo Butterfly) but my solution (also a Londoner) is to have two - one of which we bought secondhand to save money. I’ve got the Uppababy Vista which I love for eveything except going on the tube. Massive basket, nice and tall, I use it as a double now I’ve got two, plus it’s great for off-roading (eg grass and muddy paths in parks). For the tube (and holidays) I’ve got a Yoyo. I also use a carrier a lot (Babybjorn One for what it’s worth) - I use just a carrier a lot when travelling around but I fold and take the Yoyo on the tube when I’m going out for a full day or taking both children (oldest is a toddler so walks a lot but sometimes needs a bit of buggy time too). If you are considering secondhand at all there’s a really good Uppababy Buy and Sell group on Facebook, and marketplace is decent for Yoyos- just beware of scams!

Pour la première, j'avais racheté à une pote une grosse Chicco 3 en 1. A 8 mois, j'ai acheté une yoyo, on habite à Lyon. Choix parfait.

You’re welcome! I feel like as a parent in New York, all the commuting stuff is intimidating until you start doing it, and then you get used to it and it becomes a non issue. I think back on the first few times I commuted along with my first baby- so stressful. Then that got easy and I stressed about commuting with two when my second was born. I had to do it out of necessity but it helped me see that I could do it no problem, and now I don’t let it hold me back from anything we want to go do! I have the babyzen yoyo- it’s from 2021 but doesn’t look much different than the newer stokke yoyo strollers. FWIW, I also have a vista- it’s a hand me down from 2016- I use that a lot all throughout Brooklyn- anywhere I can walk but don’t take it on the train. For the yoyo stroller, I just pick the whole thing up and carry it with my son in it. It’s actually easier for me to do it myself than get someone to help me because I’ve figured out exactly how I like to pick it up and carry it. You’ll get the hang of it too- you got this!

I second skipping the bassinet and getting an adapter to click a car seat in- I did this with two stroller and two kids- yoyo and vista, and never regretted it. You really only can use it about 3 months but you will also need a car seat and you use that about a year!

I’ve had the yoyo as my second stroller for 3.5 years for two kids and love it. I don’t find the fold to be annoying- it does take two hands but it also takes about 2 seconds once you’ve done it a few times and know what to do. It’s also light. I’m 5’2” and regularly carried my then 18 month old daughter up and down the train stairs in it, while pregnant with her little brother. Thank goodness they are old enough now to get out and walk the steps but thankful that’s it’s pretty light!

r/nycparentsTraveling to NYC in Dec w/ 20 month old, how to best get around?

I don’t have a Doona, but I think a 20 month old would not fit in one, at least not comfortably. They are an infant car seat on wheels, so I would def check the height and weight requirement. I would bring a stroller like a yoyo, mini, joolz, something you can carry up and down train stairs and push through a crowd.

r/nycparentsBaby wearing, subways and how in the heck to put your infant down

Give yourself lots of grace, you will figure it out as you go. It’s also been quite cold lately, which isn’t the best weather for adventuring far for babies when not necessary. My kids are 21 months apart- now 2 and 4, and I look back and think of all the different chapters of baby wearing, strollers, who is in the carrier/who is in the stroller- how to navigate stairs etc, and it was a journey!! These days I can carry my two year old up and down train stairs in the yoyo stroller, while carrying my 4 year old’s micro scooter, all while making sure she doesn’t fall down the stairs, but there was a time when I would walk a mile out of the way to take my one infant in a stroller in an elevator because I was afraid of going down the stairs. A lot of the “skills” if you will, were picked up out of necessity. You will be a pro in no time. In the meantime, take each challenge as it comes and take it one day at a time.

Hrm doesn’t fit your bill exactly but a yoyo with a newborn nest for when bub is little would work in your case. Then once they’re sitting you swap it over to the standard pram seat. Only catch is that the pram seat only faces outwards, that was never an issue for us though as baby didn’t want to look at us 😂 Plenty of second hand ones on marketplace!!

I have a Yoyo and a Yoyo Connect, which converts the Yoyo into a double. Best of both worlds!
