don't worry about the sleep sound machine. Go get a 20 dollar bluetooth speaker and an old phone (bolabuddy is the rando amazon one I use). But it is absolutely fucking necessary. You can find most of the montessori stuff on alieexpress and temu. It's just whitelabeled and marked up. Even the expensive German stuff is now all made in Turkey/China. check goodwill and facebook marketplace too. I'm a montessori teacher so this shit just piles up at my house and I spend a stupid amount of time shoveling it out to other moms because stacking cups, blocks, rattles, ie 'the classics' are perfectly fine and easy to thrift. The AVENT bottle sterilizer that you just put in the microwave for 3 minutes is pretty great. Easy to clean. stacks flat. cheap to replace but also highly desired by the next mom. My child ended up needing the 600 dollar bassinet that woke up and shook her back to sleep. It was great. We spent 150 on facebook marketplace for it after she HATED the previous model that didn't have the autoshake that I bought for 5 dollars on facebook marketplace. It was the vibrate mode she loved with a little rocking. Anyway we only used it for 6 weeks until I passed it onto my brother. Bob jogger (revolution 2) was worth. Note: we are both runners. Bought it for 50 bucks from a coworker but they are $$. Its all terrain and all around awesome for just having in the foyer for going out the front door to the club, park, walk, and my daily jogs. Have a Nuna with every single accessory. I don't know if they are better than others but that thing comes apart down into a TINY package in its little case. It adjusts to any table height and is immediately a high chair. Goes completely flat and is great for naps on the go. All the cloth snaps off and goes in the washer. We flew with it and it's great. Facebook marketplace $500. Plus, highly desired by the next mom. All the moving parts are annoying. 4 moms baby rocker not worth. My thicc princess killed the motor by 8 weeks. Fisher price baby rocker (dont let them sleep in it) that I think is banned now is actually great. That mirror and the puppets and music really made her look around next my desk for 20 minutes while I answered work emails. Boppy. Just so worth. Zippy piano. You. Can. Turn. It. Down. All. The. Way. and they still have a little instrument. Plus, you can match it to your own piano design/wood type and they LOVE that. They love to copy parent playing with their own piano. Just get the little crockpot as a bottle warmer. Its fast, easy to clean and equal to all those expensive bottle warmers. Plus you can make fondue in it, later.
The absolute second my baby was big enough for a jogging stroller (didn’t need the flat bassinet) I switched from my Vista and never looked back. Inflatable bike-tire style wheels are sooooo much better on ice and snow and in parks and stuff. I went with the BOB Revolution, but the Thule ones are also great. You can’t run with a baby in a jogger until they have good head control, but as long as it has the appropriate recline and straps, you can use it to walk earlier than that.
A BOB Revolution is what we had. Worked awesome. Started with the car seat adapter. Probably logged 8,000 miles between our two kids on it. There are plenty of other “pure running” strollers but this one worked great for running and was useful for walking around town/stores as well.
Here’s what you do. Get a BOB revolution jogging stroller. Air tires = very smooth ride. City streets, whatever - it is the best. Get a britax car seat and adapter for your newborn as this car seat fits in the stroller with the seat reclined using said adapter. When baby is a toddler, switch to the stroller seat. This school year we stopped using ours as my youngest is now in kindergarten and wanted to walk to school with her sisters from day one, but the Bob stroller is literally the same one that we used with my oldest as a baby and she is now 10.
I’d highly, highly recommend a BOB jogging stroller. It doesn’t matter if you never jog. The tires provide a smooth ride and this city has infinite bumps in the road/sidewalk. Certain car seats are compatible with a simple adapter and then when baby is big enough to sit the stroller seat is perfect and lasts for years.
Pottery Barn Kids, Baby Gap, Monica & Andy, Little Moony, Target (the larger stores like 86th St.) For a stroller get a convertible car seat one which means you get say a BOB jogging stroller with a compatible car seat and attachment (one rod) that means your baby can go in the car seat which can also lock into a base in your vehicle and then when the baby outgrows that you can use the regular seat in the BOB stroller for a 2+ year old.
Jogging strollers are terrible for travel: sorry. That said, BoBs are great jogging strollers with fantastic shocls/suspension system. Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 is not made for jogging,.but people have used it for such. And its fantastic in general (friends have used it from newborn to age 4+) But Jogger stroller and travel do not mix well. Either get a Jogger or get an actual compact travel stroller
Thule. Bob. Uppababy Ridge. On my second kid and been through my fair share of strollers living in a city that isn't always quick to clear sidewalks after a snowstorm (and we walk to daycare + school daily). Bob was a dream. Loved it. Uppababy Ridge was fantastic in snow but heavy. We used the Bob up until my kid was 4.5. The Ridge was not meant for older kids. Haven't tried the Thule (besides moving friends strollers to see ) but overall hear good things about it in Winters.
I know you're not a fan of the jogger styles but I'll tell you this (as a 6ft woman): I resisted the City Jogger Mini GT despite it being recommended by all my mom friends. Went with Graco (the WORST). Then BoB (amazing suspension, used it up until my first turned 4)). Then bought an Uppababy. And everytime i used my friends City Jogger I had buyers remorse for NOT getting it. My husband pushed for the Uppababy and even HE has buyers remorse and wishes we went with the city Jogger Mini GT2 (latest model) All my friends have used it till their kids hit kindergarten. Was great in both Summer and Winter.
Bob stroller! Has a wonderful suspension system and feels lighter than some of the other ones. Ive used it on uncleared city sidewalks in the winter on the daily (where its basically one giant hill or small mounds of snow after another) and it was heavensent lol
This. Had a Graco with my first. Walked daily. HATED it. Even now when I hear a squeaky stroller I just know it's a Graco. And they always got stuck in the snow. Although their joggers are slightly better quality so OP might kuck out with this one. I had the travel system and then a jogger. Then a BoB. Now an Uppababy Ridge. Honestly BoB was best, followed by Uppababy
I'll also add look into the Bob stroller: I had a few strollers with a few kids and honestly the suspension on the Bob is a DREAM. Amazing for trails. And lightweight compared to other bigger strollers (I miss it). I heard good things about Thule as well but can't speak from experience
Loved loved loved the suspension on BoB strollers. I switched to Uppababy Ridge and honestly miss the Bob for the suspension system on snowbanks etc, completely smooth sailing
I live in Montreal and have the Uppababy Ridge. Don't love it as its giant haha...but.... freaking amazing in the snow. We walk everyday since birth in all weather. Through sidewalks not cleared etc and its been great. Honestly it has been a lifesaver in Winter The BoB stroller was also amazing but for when bebe is older. I heard good things about the Thule too.
Love the Bob! Amazing stroller
Have you ever tried the BOB? My god, amazing suspension and SO LIGHT (compared to Uppababy). I had a second hand BoB and couldn't get over how light it felt to roll through snowy streets etc and the suspension was amazing on bumpy sidewalks (live in a city with shitty construction lol). My husband just prefers the look of Uppababy (we have the Ridge, heavy AF) but even he grudgingly agreed that the BoB Stroller was pretty amazing even if it didn't look as nice haha (but still is heavy to bring up condo stairs, just lighter than UB)
Thule or Bob...personally loved the suspension system on the Bob, was amazing for gravelly roads and bumps!
Uppababy Ridge and BOB... had both and amazing, I used it daily in Mtl on uncleared sidewalks etc Not a fan of the Graco 3 wheeled one, had that as well. The suspension system on the BOB just made it feel lighter than the Ridge ETA: Have two kids so tried a few out, just no to Graco. But 100% recommended the Ridge or BOB (but i felt as the kids grow older, my 4-5yr old who was tall still fit in the BOB stroller as our daycare was a 30min walk, but when I got the Ridge he was too big for it)
In 2020 I bought a used Bob stroller that was at least 6 years old and it lasted me another 4years before I gave it to someone else to use. Even if old, they are built well and last. Also.... freaking amazing in the snow. Actually prefer them to the Thule!
You can also get an adapter for the Bob jogger so you can make it a travel system. That’s what I have, so we got a used Bob for $250 cad and a new Britax car seat with the adaptor to clip it on.
I got a 2019 used BOB stroller for $250 cad and you can get an adaptor so different car seats can clip in. We bought a new Britax car seat and it clips in super nice. I’m not a runner but lots of walking and on trails so that’s why we got a jogger. It maneuvers so nice too and the front wheel can be fixed if we want it from swivelling. I don’t know how heavy it is but it folds up easy enough and I don’t find it too heavy. We also have a large SUV so I’m not worried about space.
I have several different items, so here’s my take - -Bob jogging stroller system. We actually won it and love it for walks around the neighborhood (we have a gravel hilly driveway and live in the country), going on hiking trails, going in the snow, etc. It is a BIG stroller though. It folds but did not fit well in my old small hatchback (Mercedes GLB). It came with the car seat, which is nice but we didn’t really use because we already had the Uppababy system. -Uppababy Vista and Mesa car seat. We purchased a V2 before prices skyrocketed. It really is a nice stroller, very smooth and great for grocery shopping, general activities, malls, etc. I was able to get it in my old hatchback but took some effort. We plan on 2 kids though and that was a big deciding factor. We used the Mesa until my LO grew out of it. -Nuna Rava. Expensive but it is a REALLY nice seat. It is on the larger side but easy to install. -Uppababy Rove. Also a nice seat but I like the Rava better. We have this one in my husbands truck we don’t use as much. -Tushbaby diaper cross body bag. I LOVE this bag. It’s basically a large crossbody but has ample space for extra diapers, wipes, treats, etc. it’s light, cute, and great to use as a combo purse and diaper bag. I bought a fancy dog poop bag holder from Royce and have that clipped on the outside to hold my munchkin diaper disposal bags. -Diaper backpack. I just have an off name brand but I love having a backpack versus huge tote bag. I actually mostly use my Tushbaby and have a separate little cooler bottle bag for the bottles. Edit for formatting
We did the Nuna Trvl LX with Nuna Urbn as our combo travel system and it’s been really nice, overall a great purchase and I would recommend. It has the largest wheels and best suspension you’ll find in any travel stroller, quick one hand fold, lightweight. But it is still a gate check at the airport. It’s not perfect, you definitely make compromises with any travel stroller, but I have a tiny trunk and it fits well and has been nice for quick errands. That said - we have a lot of other strollers too for other purposes! - Bob Revolution jogger is our go-to for bumpy terrain and trails, gravel, etc. - I bought the Doona for international travel, we took our 5 month old to Switzerland. She ended up really liking to take walks in it, but I HATED it for regular purposes and quickly sold it because I found it to be a huge PITA. - we also have a very old (cheap FB marketplace purchase) Bugaboo Frog that we got for the bassinet for walks when she was little. It was really nice to have and we did use it quite a bit, but I also babywear a lot for walks when they’re small. I do not think a travel stroller can do it all. I think a travel stroller & jogger is a nice combo, or if you truly only want one stroller, you should probably consider the Cruz or similar.
The BOB Revolution is a great jogger and pushes through anything (if you’re into trails or live where there’s heavy snow)!
