r/BabyBumpsIs there really that big a difference between higher end brands e.g. Uppababy vs middle brands e.g. Graco? Looking at strollers.

Yes! My husband has no issues with opening and closing it with one hand. I struggle but I’m petite. At first the button to push down to open it kept getting stuck because it was so stiff so I opened and closed it with 2 hands like 7 times in a row and no longer have that issue.

We started with the uppababy Cruz and clicked in the nuna pipa car seat with the adapter. It’s very smooth and just feels nice to push. As our baby got older, we added a bob jogging stroller because the roads in our neighborhood aren’t smooth. We added the bugaboo butterfly recently since she likes to run around now and doesn’t care much for the stroller anymore. The one handed fold and compactness is really nice. We also have a wonderfold wagon but only plan to use it for long outings to the zoo.

I have a 22 month old and just found out I’m pregnant with #2. I have the uppababy Cruz and bugaboo butterfly which are single strollers and don’t regret those purchases. My toddler doesn’t like sitting in strollers anymore but I’ll probably get the riding board for the strollers I have in case she doesn’t want to walk.

r/BabyBumpsHow many strollers did you end up with? Is it possible to get by with just one?

We have 3. Started with the uppababy Cruz which we used as our main stroller when my toddler was younger. The roads in my neighborhood aren’t smooth and have tons of small rocks so her head kept bouncing around on walks which led us to get a BOB jogging stroller. Once she could walk and was less interested in the stroller, we got the bugaboo butterfly to keep in the car and now use that when needed. All 3 serve different purposes and although I haven’t used the Cruz in a year, I’ll be using it once my second comes in the summer.

r/BabyBumpsTravel stroller system to rule them all?

It all depends on where you live and your uses. We have 3 different strollers for different needs. We have the uppababy Cruz that we used when going out for the first 11.5 months until she could walk. Once she could walk, she’s been less interested in the stroller so we got the bugaboo butterfly as a travel stroller that stays in our car. We also have a BOB jogging stroller for neighborhood walks since the roads in my neighborhood aren’t smooth and she was bouncing around a lot in the uppababy.

I have the gen 1 butterfly and it's been awesome. It's been all over the world and on the Treasure twice. I like that it has real usable storage underneath and lays down flat enough for a nap. My only complaint is that it doesn't lay completely flat but that's not a dealbreaker for me.

I have the original butterfly and took it on 14 flights. It is an incredible stroller. I have two kids now so it doesn’t get as much use but I was in the store the other day and saw someone testing the butterfly 2 and it looks even better! Best travel and baby item I ever purchased, hands down. I ended up using it as my primary stroller for my first because it was so convenient, despite also having a bulkier expensive more all terrain stroller. For the person who asked, if you search my comments I’ve talked about the pros of this stroller in more detail elsewhere. But, best thing to do is go see/try them yourself if you can.

To be fair to your husband I have heard uppababy customer service can’t be beat and it’s still a reputable strongly desired stroller with good after market value. Plus if you have the uppababy car seat it makes most sense to do minu because it’s compatible! I just stan my Butterfly and lament that I can’t get it in a double.

Hiking while baby wearing scared the heck out of me because what if you trip? You are going to fall right on your baby. The few times we did it made me sooo nervous. Backwearing while hiking is safest but you can’t do that until baby is at least 6 months and it is a bit of an art - I personally wouldn’t have felt comfortable back wearing until my gal was at least a year but that’s just me. Also, as a c section mama I didn’t feel comfortable baby wearing for the first 6 weeks (but everyone is different). Puts too much pressure on the pelvic floor. And when they get a bit big for baby wearing or perhaps start protesting it more (my gal was over it by 15 months) but still can’t walk well or hold hands well, the stroller is a great way to contain them. We still regularly use it for my 20 month old to do busy outings like the zoo, aquarium, etc. Oh; and some babies don’t like baby wearing at all. Basically, like all things infant related, I’d say keep an open mind. As someone else said you could always hold off and purchase once baby is here and you have a better idea of what you need. For what it’s worth we ended up switching completely to a travel stroller when my gal was 4 months old - the Bugaboo butterfly. It’s compact, folds with one hand in one step: and is airplane friendly (I’ve taken it on 14 flights). It’s the absolute best. Only downside is you can’t use it without a car seat until 4-6 months (technically 6 unless baby has good head and neck strength) and only the bugaboo car seat is compatabl. But I much preferred this to our bulky stroller and it made the stroller aspect such a breeze. So you could get something like that for when you are out and about and baby is bigger and less comfy to wear, or you could invest in a nice trail friendly stroller like a Thule.

Interesting! Which side by sides do you have? I have a city select 2015 and lost the second seat in a flood..they discontinued that model so I can’t get a replacement. Now that I have two (20 month age gap) I’m trying to figure out what to get next…my toddler is a runner so needs a seat versus a ride along (we have the rider board for the city select and she doesn’t love it). Personally I don’t love the city select stroller as a single, ie my only experience with it. It pushed well but it’s so bulky and the fold mechanism is awful, so I was looking to upgrade to a mini tandem. With my first we ended up pretty much exclusively using a travel stroller (bugaboo butterfly) from 4 months on because it was so much easier. But your post has me rethinking. Or at least maybe thinking about which tandems to avoid.

Bugaboo butterfly was and is my all time favourite stroller - we ended up using it as the primary stroller for my first, only switching to our bulkier stroller when the snow is too bad in our area. We considered but didn’t try the ride along for two reasons: I realized I needed a way to constrain my toddler because she’s a runner, and watching videos of the bugaboo wheeled board (if I recall they have one with a little seat) looked so awkward. I ended up getting the minu duo. It is imo not the same calibre as the butterfly. I find it cheaper fabric and a bulkier fold, a the push isn’t quite as nice. But I think it is the most comparable (along with the Nuna travl but the Nuna has two diff sized seats aka battle waiting to happen wit my kids). The duo is exactly what I need it for. Can contain both kids but toddler can easily get out and run around (unlike a tandem), fits in every doorway, one button fold, light enough that I can carry it inside easily or to the garage, relatively easy straps, big enough undercarriage to fit stuff in like a small diaper bag and my coat or some groceries or shopping. Top and back peekaboo windows that both baby and toddler love. We got it in grey and found it didn’t overheat in the sun during our travels. I don’t have the car seat but I used it flat in the one seat when my first was a newborn. I have a friend who reports her 1 year old pulls forward on the seat and I’ve seen it with him and it’s a design flaw, but I haven’t had my 2 year old do this so it hasn’t been an issue. Super easy to travel with, though the travel bag costs a fortune (we just went to Mexico City and Cancun when the kids were 27 months and 6 months and I was so grateful for it especially in the airports). But if you fill in the warranty, if the stroller gets busted in transit and you are using their bag, uppababy will cover to replace it/repair it. Even if your toddler isn’t a runner, there might be instances when they try to push their boundaries and it’s really scary to not have a place to contain them when this happens while also juggling a newborn/infant. You could also rely on baby wearing your youngest but my baby never tolerated being worn until he was 6 months so sometimes our intentions don’t match reality. That said you did need to make the decision right away and see how things go - we didn’t buy the tandem until about two months postpartum (but I’ll be honest, regretted not purchasing earlier). I did agonize about what to get and ultimately I’m very happy with what I settled on. I held onto the butterfly and use it for solo trips with youngest, and assume once oldest grows out of the stroller I’ll still want it for the younger one. Age gap is almost 21 months. My kids are very tall (92-99th percentile) and my now 2.5 year old has tons of room to grow still. Enjoy and best of luck with the end of your pregnancy! I personally found it so much easier to have a newborn and toddler than be pregnant with a toddler!

We use the Butterfly (1, and US version) as our travel and quick errand stroller. It’s obviously great to travel with and it works well for indoor errands, but it’s not the nicest for going in outdoor walks with. Like all travel strollers, the small wheels and lack of suspension system mean that it can’t easily deal with uneven pavement, grass, cobblestones, or bumpy sidewalks. We never take it to the zoo or the park for example. If you are outdoors a lot then I think it’s really hard to find one stroller to rule them all unfortunately. The things that make a stroller good at outdoors make it bad for travel.

r/BuyingforbabyAnyone just have a travel stroller?

We have the bugaboo butterfly and while it’s fine for travel and quick errands, it’s not great for neighborhood walks or longer outings like the zoo. The suspension isn’t great (true of any travel stroller), less comfortable for baby (in particular the butterfly doesn’t let him sit up that straight and also doesn’t recline as far), less storage, etc. That said I know it’s a luxury to have multiple strollers. If you don’t want to do that I’d maybe go for something a little beefier than a travel stroller though.

r/BuyingforbabyCompact All-Terrain Newborn Stroller
6 months ago

I think that unfortunately these two goals are at odds. Travel strollers usually don’t have the suspension or wheel size you’d want to navigate rough terrain. We have the bugaboo butterfly for a travel stroller which is pretty similar to the Aer. It would be miserable or impossible to use on cobblestone. When we go to Europe we will probably take our Uppababy Vista. It’s huge but it rides so smooth and is going to be so much more comfy for baby napping on the go, etc. Sorry I don’t have good advice as I don’t know of a really good option in this category

r/BuyingforbabyIs a Cruz V2 necessary if I have a travel stroller?

We have the Butterfly and the Vista. If we could only have one, we’d pick the Vista. If you only ever use the stroller for errands, travel stroller is probably fine. If you ever do zoo, park, longer walks, theme parks, travel stroller is not as good. Smaller basket, suspension struggles with cracks in the sidewalk, less comfy seating/recline options for longer use. But it’s great for running into the pharmacy real quick or for taking through the airport.

I wouldn’t get the Doona. It has a limited lifespan, and it’s not even a great stroller. There’s no basket and it’s pretty short. A travel stroller for travel and car errands makes sense for a lot of people. If you got one now you’d likely be able to use it well into the toddler years, unlike the Doona. We have the Bugaboo Butterfly and it stays in the car for quick errands, but we do prefer our Vista for longer outings like to the zoo or whatever. For travel we bring a car seat with us. We don’t use an infant seat so we just carry a convertible seat in a backpack style bag. We either bring it on the plane or gate check it depending on the trip (it’s best not to check it but reality is we have to sometimes). If you use an infant seat then you can get a travel stroller that’s compatible with it and bring it when you travel.

We have a butterfly 1 and although it’s light and compact, it’s annoying on uneven roads like cobblestones. I think an investment like this is worth trying out in a bigger baby store, if you have one nearby?

A butterfly 1 (US version) is my daily stroller and I LOVE it. It handles very well in any reasonable situation (so not grass or gravel, but it’s what I use for long daily walks on rough/old paved walking paths and it is about as comfortable as larger strollers I’ve used previously, like the Nuna Triv Next). My youngest is a summer baby and keeping her in the car seat for walks was way too hot so she was in the fully reclined stroller seat from the earliest possible time and did fine without being parent facing. The large mesh panel in the canopy of the butterfly 1 made it easy to keep tabs on her.

I strongly prefer the Bugaboo Butterfly with Nuna adapters over the Nuna Trvl! The butterfly is sturdier, taller, and overall better quality - the Trvl is basically a marked up Joie Nutmeg, which is $239 (Joie and Nuna have the same parent company) and it definitely feels like it’s worth that rather than the premium Nuna price. Anyway, besides that, you’ve got a great plan! I recommend collapsing the stroller in the gate area before boarding if you have enough hands to carry everything- a couple times when I’ve been flying without another adult and rolled the stroller all the way to the plane before folding it, gate agents and/or FAs have given me some suspicious looks when I promise them that it’ll fit onboard.

r/BuyingforbabyLightweight vs sturdy, what's more important?

What kind of terrain will you need to navigate? If you will ever need your stroller to handle grass, gravel, trails, snow, running/jogging or other heavy duty use, then a heavier duty stroller is probably going to serve you better overall. If you have a car with convenient parking, then leaving the stroller in the car will prevent you from having to carry it or store it inside. If you’re just talking about urban/suburban use - sidewalks/pavement in various states of maintenance, etc but no off-roading needs - then a high quality lightweight stroller with suspension is the way to go, imo. I have a Bugaboo Butterfly and use it as my toddler’s daily stroller, including long (2-4 mile) walks on old paved greenways most days. We’re talking bumpy asphalt pathways that would have a cheap stroller vibrating and shaking all the way up your arms, but the Butterfly has enough suspension to keep things smooth for my kid and for me. It works great for everything I need it to do, but I don’t need or expect it to handle anything truly difficult. Other high end lightweight strollers, like the Uppababy Minu or the Joolz Aer, would probably give a similar user experience. I don’t think that the mid-level brands of lightweight strollers are quite as hardy (example: Ergo Metro, Inglesina Quid3, Joie Nutmeg/Nuna Trvl etc) but realistically would also probably work just fine for walks and such as long as you are staying on paved roads/sidewalks.

r/BuyingforbabyWhich stroller to get for Clek Liing infant car seat?

I used my Liing with a Vista and a Bugaboo Butterfly. I love love love the butterfly and disliked the vista for the size/weight/fold but I wasn’t doing any real off roading. My best friend uses her Liing with a Bumbleride Era and does use it for a decent amount of all terrain use. The stroller seat converts between seat and a bassinet though I don’t think it’s its technically safe sleep certified like the Uppababy bassinets are (but would still be okay for naps on the go). It’s still pricy, but GoodBuyGear has an open box Era for about $300 less than list price right now… 😆 Can you sell one or both of the current strollers you have to put extra funds toward one that will meet your needs better? (I’d sell the Britax first because Baby Jogger strollers are heavy duty workhorses and better suited to the type of use you may want out of it in the future!) If you can live without car seat compatibility, Evenflo and Joie have some cost effective strollers with bassinet options, though neither are as robust and high quality as true luxury strollers (ie Uppababy, Bumbleride, baby jogger).

If I were buying a new stroller today it would be a Bugaboo Dragonfly! And I’d use it with either a Nuna or Clek infant seat. My vista served one purpose I needed from it (car seat frame for my twins) and I don’t think I could have survived the first year without it, but I definitely wouldn’t buy it for a singleton because I’d plan on a different/better double if or when it was needed. (I also have a bugaboo butterfly and LOVE it, it’s been a great daily stroller for my youngest even though it’s intended to be a compact stroller. So I have no need for anything bigger or heavier duty).

r/BuyingforbabyAdvice on stroller/car seat combo
11 days ago

I have the butterfly and Joie mint latch. The butterfly is my daily stroller and I don’t need anything different for day to day use. My baby used the car seat on the stroller pretty briefly and I quickly started putting her in the actual stroller seat for walks - she was a summer baby and staying in the car seat for long walks and such was too hot. But I didn’t miss having a bassinet or a heavier duty stroller (I actually do have heavier duty strollers but I hardly bothered using them with my youngest). I do love the Dragonfly and if I could justify another stroller I’d love to get that one, but I really don’t need another stroller lol and the butterfly does it all for me!

r/BuyingforbabyAdvice on stroller/car seat combo
11 days ago

They do, though they’re not officially approved as far as I’m aware (the mint uses the same stroller adapter mechanism as Nuna/Cybex/Maxi Cosi/Clek etc). Knowing that they’re unofficially compatible ie same design was enough for me but proceed at your own risk. Baby just rode in the fully reclined stroller seat once she had enough head control. The butterfly2 is even flatter of a recline so I wouldn’t have any hesitations there Yes, we use it for 2-4+ mile walks 4-5 days a week on greenway paths- no real terrain but pretty rough asphalt where I have tested out other strollers that did a lot worse! Like the suspension is enough that nobody is vibrating riding in the butterfly.

The original butterfly was worse. The butterfly 2, somewhat addressed the issue of the extreme recline. Edit: The butterfly 2 is much better than the original. The wheels are bigger, the footrests folds easier, and there's a bit more storage.

You need to test drive them. I spent months doing research and I narrowed it down to a few. Then I travelled to a major city so I could try them out.  In reality we found having two works best for us. The Bugaboo Fox 5, we used for the newborn stage, walks and any sort of terrain issues. It glides across the road and is very easy to push and maneuver. We also have a Bugaboo Butterfly. This one stays in the car and we use it for travel, malls, stores, etc. When we travel we notice a huge difference in our legs and arms from using the butterfly stroller. It is not as ergonomic and requires more effort to push.  They are both high end expensive models. They each serve different purposes and needs. The Fox was our primary stroller for the first year and we didn't buy a second until he was just over a year old.

I like the Bugaboo brand. In my experience they have great customer service and their quality is fantastic. It's also helpful that you can reuse attachments, like cup holders, bags, etc. I've brought the butterfly 2 on a plane as a carryon with no issue. It still stands up when folded. The one handed unfold works great. I think the bottom storage is a great size, it fit my Tobiq backpack perfectly. I also like the bag you can buy separately to store it in. We have a lot of Bugaboo gear, lol.

Hello stroller addict here 🙈 - I’ve just purchased #6 although I did sell one so we will have 5 when it arrives. 1. Nuna mixx - our first stroller and bought to go with our infant seat. We loved it until we didn’t, it’s now gathering dust in the hall closet. Keeping solely so I don’t get the urge to buy a Cruz v3 for bassinet mode and bc resale on them sucks. 2. Bugaboo butterfly (OG) - bought for travel, lives in my husbands car (will maybe sell this one, see #5) 3. UB Vista v3 - bought to replace the Mixx because my child hated the seat with a passion - love this stroller but hate the bulky fold. I use it every day for stroller walks in the neighborhood and to the park, lives in garage & comes on big outtings with us. 4. Nuna triv (SOLD) - bought when my kid started hating the mixx and I wasn’t ready for world facing yet. Liked it but once he was world facing I swapped it for something more compact since it’s still pretty big. 5. Bugaboo butterfly (2) - kind of a splurge that I didn’t need but I just wanted a stroller that lived in *my* car for everyday use and I liked the new features. 6. Guava Roam (in transit) - bought mostly for my husband to jog with but also for park outtings & rougher terrain than the vista can handle. I have a problem, it’s fine 🥲

r/BuyingforbabySo overwhelmed by strollers: Nuna or Bugaboo?

Not Nuna. Edit to add: as a caution, I bought the mixx and was the same way as many posters here and hated the Uppababy - I was so against. Now you can pry my vista out of my cold dead hands lol my kid loves this thing and it is so freaking nice. Do I wish he liked the nuna with built-in bassinet mode and a compact fold and sleeker design? Yes. However I will never, never buy another Nuna stroller after having TWO (mix and triv) - the seat is god awful. Expensive lesson for me. On the other hand I LOVE my bugaboo butterfly - such a great freaking strolller !!!!!!

We have the bugaboo butterfly v1 and love it! We never had an issue putting it in the overhead compartment, agents may want to see it actually folded up before you board but that’s it. It’s easy to go through TSA with it, I’m petite and can hold my baby and fold it with ease. I like the updates they made in the newer version but if you want to save a little you can always buy the older version. Also just to add, my parents bought the cybex travel for their car and it folds up a little smaller than the bugaboo but it’s a little clunkier to fold. My parents prefer the bugaboo but for the amount of times they use the cybex it works. It’s slightly cheaper too

r/NewParentsNew parent question: Are stroller over $500 really worth it? Is a more expensive stroller always better?

Worth really depends on your budget and what you’re wanting out of it to be honest. We have a Bugaboo Fox 5 and a Bugaboo Butterfly and have been extremely happy with our decision. You can 1000% feel the difference between an expensive stroller versus mid tier. We tested them out before baby and even my husband was shocked at how different the Buagboo felt to say the mockingbird and others at Target. What makes them “better” are the wheels, shock absorption, maneuverability, how easy you can fold etc. I think someone mentioned being able to push with one finger and it’s absolutely true. We live in the suburbs and got use out of our stroller from day 1. We went straight to a convertible car seat so we relied on the bassinet when we were out and about (couldn’t just click the carrier in). The bassinet was worth it for us and with a lot of the higher end strollers you can buy a stand to use the bassinet indoors as an alternative safe sleep space! Edit: fixed a word

Bugaboo butterfly! We’ve travelled across the world with it. Folds up so compact, fits in the overhead bin (we’ve never been forced to gate check it, in its travel bag which has the dimensions listed), and the on one handed fold is *chefs kiss*. I wanted to get the Minu V3 but didn’t like how the seat is exposed when it’s folded. I was a bit sad that the Butterfly V2 came out shortly after we got the Butterfly V1 but the new features on the V2 addresses some of the minor inconveniences we had with the V1 like having a pocket at the back!

We have the Bugaboo Butterfly 1 and used it for a few trips, including Asia and Europe and it was great. Super compact, fit in overhead bins and AC didn’t make us gate check it, one handed fold (and a carrying strap), very spacious basket at the bottom! The Butterfly 2 also has a bunch of improvements from the 1 like a pouch at the back of the stroller, bigger wheels and a better canopy.

Bugaboo butterfly! The one second fold and unfold is such a game changer for travel! It also fits in the overhead bin and takes up minima space in the trunk. We have the Vista V3 as our main stroller and it’s a tank but lives in the garage as it takes up so much room in the trunk and is heavy. We have the Butterfly 1 for travel. The new Butterfly 2 has better improvements like a pocket in the back and bigger wheels! The Butterfly also has a pretty big basket for a travel stroller and a 15lb weight limit (iirc).
