"These taller tents don't do well in high winds. ... They're like giant sails, and the poles tend to bend."

"I think the issue is at the manufacturing level. ... About half the reviews I've read are good and half say they leak or otherwise tear/rip at seams. So you are gambling with the quality."

For me it’s space and headroom. I’m 6’4” tall so I want at least a 6’ center height. My Girlfriend and I use a Coleman Skydome Tent with Screen Room this allows us to store our gear under the screen part and keep our tent open. The tent can hold two queen air mattress. My GF and I use cots and in the middle is a small table and a chair for comfort. We have plenty of room to get up put our clothes on or relax inside which can be nice if the weather outside is nasty. We’ve all had those days when the weather man gets it wrong and 1 day of you 3 day trip is just wet, cold and miserable. Having enough space makes everything better. There is a few different tent manufacturers out there. I’ve always done good by Coleman. Only other tent I would recommend is Kelty. I’ve sold camping gear for the past 35+ years. I’ve seen most of the tents that are offered on the market firsthand. I’ve tested and abused them all to find the best solution for the common car camper. Only thing I’ve come across is when you buy tents that are so big that there rain fly doesn’t always provide enough protection from bad weather. The other reason why many tents fall is because people don’t stake down and deploy their rain fly correctly. The rain fly has two uses weather protection and airflow. If not deployed properly most tents end up getting wet inside and the tent doesn’t breathe properly which causes condensation build up inside the tent. If you can try to stay away from tents that are 15’ x 12’ these tents generally don’t fit on most camp sites and can be difficult to setup. If you want a big tent that is 15’ x 15’ get a canvas tent these tents are built to last and provide proper protection from all types of weather conditions. Just remember always remove one person from your tent if you plan on bring your gear inside the tent with you. So you buy a 3 person tent take 1 person out it will sleep 2 people and your gear. 3 people camping get a 4 person tent, 4 people camping get a 6 person tent. Trust me you’ll enjoy you camping experience when you have enough room for everyone and their gear. If it’s 2 adults and 2 kids I would still recommend going with a 6 person tent. This way you don’t have to worry about space. Happy Travels 🌲🌲⛺️🔥🌲🌲[Skydome Tent with Screen Room](https://a.co/d/3pGx7Wi)

I love my Coleman Skydome Camping Tent with Screened Porch & 5-Minute Setup, Weatherproof. I have been using my tent now since the release. Love the size of the 6 person tent which gives us plenty of space for my girlfriend and I sleeping on cots with a small table and chairs inside and a center height of 6 feet which is awesome because i don’t want to be leaning over trying to put my clothes on. Plus there is a screen porch added to the tent for more storage space. This is where my Labrador sleeps. The rain fly if full and covers the entire tent. I have been a 6 day camping trip with 3 days of heavy rain and winds and the tent never failed. Right now the tent is on sale through Amazon. Hands down the Coleman Skydome Camping Tent with Screened Porch & 5-Minute Setup, Weatherproof. I purchased mine when it was first released and I chose the 6 person tent because I wanted lots of room. I’m 6’4” tall so having a tent to stand up in is a huge bonus for me. My Girlfriend and I sleep on Cots so what we do is put a couple chairs and a small table inside the tent which allows us to sit and play games or read at night or during bad weather. This tent has a full rain fly that goes all the way to the ground on all sides. Plus you get a screen porch attached to the tent which is great place to store your gear. Dimensions 10’5” L x 12’5” W x 6’ H. Right now it’s on sale at Amazon. Definitely keep you under $500 cap. I’ve used my tent 18 times in the past year and a half. Many times in bad weather conditions. We stayed dry and comfortable at one location for 5 days 3 of those days were heavy rain and winds. I recommend you get some screw in tent stakes for bad weather they really help hold the tent down all allow for full ventilation as well. I haven’t found the instant tents to hold up well in bad weather conditions. This is my current tent for the past 2 years. I’ve used it 26 times already and absolutely loved it. The rain fly is all the way down for full waterproof coverage. [Coleman 6 person Skydome](https://a.co/d/7irT4lW)

Big Agnes would be my first choice if I had to choose between the two that you are suggesting. Another choice is what I’ve been using for about 2 years and that is the Coleman 6 person Skydome. I’ve been very impressed with the design and space provided. Unlike many tent this is a tent that offers a full waterproof rain fly and a screen room that is attached to the tent which allows a option for gear storage or extra sleeping space. Plus being around $255 is even better for your budget. [Coleman Skydome 6 person](https://a.co/d/3N7mzxx)

If you love the Naturehike Dune Hot Tent for the tall porch but want a smaller footprint, you can consider the Coleman WeatherMaster or Coleman Skydome with Screen Porch. Both have covered, waterproof porch areas where you can stand and take off your wet gear, and they fit 2-3 people comfortably with room for an air mattress. These are budget-friendly car camping options with easy setup and good weather protection. Check out [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/KeepThisInMind/comments/1mdmrgb/reddit_2_person_best_camping_tents_recommendations/) for more detailed reviews and tips. I hope it 'll help you find the perfect tent for your needs!

I have the first one the Coleman porch sky dome tent. Was given as a wedding gift and I’ve used it twice. Easy to pop up takes maybe 5 min with 2 people. Hoping to try it in the rain one day. Definitely recommend

Our Troop has been using 4-person and 6-person Coleman Skydome tents for the last several years. The boys are rough on tents, so priorities are cost and ease of repair. Positives: - The tents themselves are quick to set up and pack away. - They are well ventilated. - Inexpensive and reasonably durable. Negatives: - They are not especially light, weighting between 8 and 13 lbs. - Poles are attached to the tent, which makes them easy to pack but could be a problem if a pole needs to be replaced. - Can handle rain when set up correctly, but may allow in water in a severe storm. On that last point, it's hard for me to provide a completely objective assessment because we have had Skydome tents become soggy in very bad weather, but this may be because of boys leaving the vent on the door open rather than issues with the tent itself.

All of these are car camping tents. The Wanona and Homestead are 13 lbs, and they're absolutely massive when packed. The skydome 6p is enormous and weighs 19 lbs. You wouldn't ever want to hike with these tents. The North Face tents suffer from outdated design philosophies. There are no clips. You have to feed all of the poles through sleeves. The fabric can bunch up, so you have to be mindful while feeding the poles through. Slow to set up, slow to take down. The Wanona 4P performs well in the rain. It's lovely in the rain, but not so terrific to set up or break down in the rain. These taller tents don't do well in high winds. They're like giant sails, and the poles tend to bend. Questions to ask yourself: What type of camping do you envision for yourself? How many people will you be camping with? Do you plan on thru-hiking? Your ideas about camping will evolve as you gain experience with equipment.

6 person Coleman skydome. Really nice tent with a full tub style floor. Easy to set up. Then get a second one when the kids grow out of it. 6 person tents are comfortable for 2 adults with either a cot or an air mattress each. If you drop to a 4 person tent adults can't stand in the middle and it's a little tight for 2 adults of they use cots/air mattresses.

Coleman Skydome 6 with full rain fly might be worth looking at. I hate my Gazelle screen tent. Constantly leaks, poor ventilation, and a pain to deal with due to large folded size.

We just camped in a Coleman with a "porch" and that is a real game-changer! 4-6 person was pretty big for 2 gals, but it was easy and comfy.

Sorry, it’s $379. Scroll until you see the one with the screen porch on one end. The one I sent you before this did not have the screen look closely at the pictures. It shows 379 for the one with the screen on Amazon.
