"i have a core 6. too small for a fam of 4 ... a 6 person is too small for two adults and 2 kids. i'd go for a 9 or 10 person. ... the size rating is based on people in sleeping bag sleeping right next to each other like sardines in a can. I have a core 6. Definately too small. ... 2 adult size cot and a single baby crib. only enough space for 1 person walking in and out. that's with belongings under the cot."

"I ve had the 6 person just for my 2 large dogs and myself. Definitely go with the 10 person."

"for four people, especially two that are still growing, go for the 10 person. ... I guess you can get all four into the six person, but there won't be room for much else ... you'll be tripping over each other if someone needs to go pee in the middle of the night or whatever."

I like all kinds of camping, including some long trips with a big tent. I have an instant cabin that’s 9x9’. The only downsides can be that it takes up a good deal of room, both in the car and a level spot big enough can be a challenge. And in colder weather it can be colder, but I often take my heater (make sure to vent).

Go for the Core tent if you're a stand up in the tent & move around type. You'll like it. We got our big one pretty muddy and it was a heavy pain to clean. Hubby can stand & likes to bring a chair in. I like a smaller dome tent. I love my Kelty Late Start. The pole pockets and clips are great. I will never purchase another tent with sleeves for the poles to slide through (looking at you Coleman). Do you have any plans to backpack with the Scout Troop? Or are you exclusively car camping? Many scout camps require you to walk in your gear from a common parking area. If that's the case, having a wagon is key if you want to keep your large tent.

Core is my go-to brand. I have that exact one, and it's been through a lot. We added the 6, 9, and 10 person instant tents. We got slammed by big big storms with high straightwinds while at festivals, and afterward, the core tents are always still standing in the tent graveyards.

CORE is way above Ozark Trail. They just happen to have models sold at Costco. My issue is it isn’t a tub bottom.

I've had two seasons with the Core-4 Straight Wall Cabin tent and it's held up well on the PNW coast \[rain/wind\]. It is not as ruggedly built as my Timberline-2 by Eureka, but for $129 it's a good deal. I'd definitely recommend you get the Core-6 model. It's on sale for $159, but you'll also need a tarp-groundsheet. I also use a cheap \[$35\] tent fly so I can erect a lounging-cooking space out of the rain. \*These Core tents allow standing room. I still use my Timberlane in harsh weather, but it's damn nice to be able to stand inside the tent.

We have 2 core tents. Love them. Especially now that they offer full rain fly and footprints. And the dimensions of the 6 man tent really make it stand out - the rectangle shape (as opposed to square like Coleman’s) is fantastic.

I had the Core 6 person for several years. It's a great starter tent for my two little kids and I, but for four people, especially two that are still growing, go for the 10 person. I guess you can get all four into the six person, but there won't be room for much else and you'll be tripping over each other if someone needs to go pee in the middle of the night or whatever. If the 10 person has a room divider, that's especially nice since they can have their own little area.
