"i have a core 6. too small for a fam of 4 ... a 6 person is too small for two adults and 2 kids. i'd go for a 9 or 10 person. ... the size rating is based on people in sleeping bag sleeping right next to each other like sardines in a can. I have a core 6. Definately too small. ... 2 adult size cot and a single baby crib. only enough space for 1 person walking in and out. that's with belongings under the cot."

"I ve had the 6 person just for my 2 large dogs and myself. Definitely go with the 10 person."

"for four people, especially two that are still growing, go for the 10 person. ... I guess you can get all four into the six person, but there won't be room for much else ... you'll be tripping over each other if someone needs to go pee in the middle of the night or whatever."

Way overkill for size but my wife and I got the 6 person tent from Costco and that size is honestly great! We also take the dog and have space for what we want in the tent.

With the ages I'm guessing cub scouts, which means car camping and durability, because there's small children running everywhere and being rough with stuff. Even if your kids are super chill in the tent, there's other kids playing tag and such everywhere. **I've got two suggestions:** **1) Costco's Core 6 person lighted dome tent.** There is enough space for a cot and two kids on the floor, no problem. Its cheap enough that if something gets broken you don't have to stress about it, and Costco has a great return policy so you could potentially just do a return if something breaks. Its easy to setup. There's space for the adult to stand up. **2) Canvas bell tent (3m or 4m).** Totally different vibe. I just got one for the exact same purposes (cub scout camping). Very durable and kid resistant. The Vevor ones are in your price range and they're fine. The biggest downside is that there's a ton of lines to stake out, but you have two little helpers for that. Its heavy so you may want a little wagon to pull it in, but if you're cub scouting you probably have a little wagon. 3m is big enough for three on the floor no problem; if you're on a cot it may or may not be a little tight depending on the size of your cot. If you want to be able to fit two adults and two kids then 4m is probably the way to go but that's a significant step up in weight/bulk. I really like that I don't have to stress about a bunch of elementary school kids accidentally putting their arm through thin mesh or breaking a pole.

Dude, my first two tents were coleman. Shit man, I still got them and they still work great. Oldest one close to 15 years. I went from a 4P Coleman to 6P Coleman when I had kids. So if you can get one in good condition or buy it.. go for it. I got my coleman sundome for like a 100 bucks. If you don't want a coleman, you can sang one of these from costco for a 100 bucks - https://www.costco.com/core-6-person-lighted-dome-tent.product.100892929.html Now a days I have a Marmot 6P, recognize that this is 500$ tent. Don't spend this kind of money for your first tent unless you have money to spare or plan on going a lot of camping. The difference between a 100$ tent vs a $500 tent are: - More indoor pockets - High quality tent poles - No snag YKK zippers - Easy to pack bag - better ventilation But from a core tent/sleeping POV, its the same. IF and WHEN you are ready to go backpacking, it would be good to invest in lighter smaller gear. A decent backpacking tent is pretty expensive.

I've had two seasons with the Core-4 Straight Wall Cabin tent and it's held up well on the PNW coast \[rain/wind\]. It is not as ruggedly built as my Timberline-2 by Eureka, but for $129 it's a good deal. I'd definitely recommend you get the Core-6 model. It's on sale for $159, but you'll also need a tarp-groundsheet. I also use a cheap \[$35\] tent fly so I can erect a lounging-cooking space out of the rain. \*These Core tents allow standing room. I still use my Timberlane in harsh weather, but it's damn nice to be able to stand inside the tent.

We have 2 core tents. Love them. Especially now that they offer full rain fly and footprints. And the dimensions of the 6 man tent really make it stand out - the rectangle shape (as opposed to square like Coleman’s) is fantastic.

I had the Core 6 person for several years. It's a great starter tent for my two little kids and I, but for four people, especially two that are still growing, go for the 10 person. I guess you can get all four into the six person, but there won't be room for much else and you'll be tripping over each other if someone needs to go pee in the middle of the night or whatever. If the 10 person has a room divider, that's especially nice since they can have their own little area.
