"Yeah we have a 3P Marmot that's similar. Very sturdy and great for its intended use but there are much lighter weight options like the Mongar that's also quite cheap. ... Basically unless you already own the heavy tent there's little reason to buy one when there are lighter, cheaper options which are readily available."

r/WildernessBackpacking • Suggestions for a backpacking tent that is a reasonable weight but isn't "Ultralight"? ->tungsten ul is so simple and fast to set up. I love my tungsten so much, especially when it rains, no sagging like my nemo kunai 3p does. It ventalates well too. I didn't consider the limelight ul, but is seems a bit lighter. The weird wings are interesting, seemto require extra stakes, but could add indoor space if you need it more than the vestabule.

r/camping • Looking for a 2P tent less than $250 that'll mostly be used for car camping ->Marmot makes some excellent tents in that price range. I have the tungsten UL 3P, it’s a little outside your range, but the non UL versions are within your range and still around that 5lb mark. Personally, I’d avoid naturehike. Materials, testing, and quality control are really important with tents, and these are the main things that get skipped by Chinese brands seeking to undercut the market. Nothing worse than a tent that just WONT pitch taut because the pattern it’s sewn with is a little off, or the material is a little too stretchy. Nothing worse than rain running down the inner wall of your tent because the rain fly is sagging and touching it.

r/camping • Condensation problem ->I got mine in 2020 for like $240, I was so stoked. It’s been absolutely bulletproof over the 75 or so nights I’ve spent in it, including one time when we woke up to water actively running under and around the tent (tons of rain and poor site selection on my part) but were still perfectly dry inside. And while it obviously can’t compete with single walled non-freestanding tents in terms of lightness, the liveabiliy trade off is so worth it for most of the types of hikes I like to go on (pretty low miles).

Even if it is a couple lbs heavier than our Durston. I'm not a fan of 1p tents in general. Just not enough room. Our first Marmot was a 3p Limelite.... Like a Cadillac, but just as heavy, LOL. Carried that sucker for 10 years before it started to wear out. I'm a fan of the brand.
r/backpacking • Marmot Tungsten 1P opinions? ->My wife and I were in the same boat as you. I had been rocking my cheap Kelty grand mesa 2 one door/one vestibule tent for years and we kept using it while we built up her gear. Sure it’s snug but it added to the experience. Plenty of great memories stargazing together with the fly off, riding out crazy thunderstorms, or nudging each other awake when we heard wildlife at night. We’ve recently upgraded to a lighter three person tent (marmot tungsten UL 3) but I wouldn’t trade those first handful of years getting sharing that smaller tent while getting her into backpacking. And our sleep setup is basic. Two sleeping pads and two sleeping bags. She steals the covers at home as it is, so I don’t think we could share a quilt or zip our bags together. Also, if you’re strapped for space with the vestibule, put your rain cover on your pack and lean it up against a tree. Been doing that for years and never have gotten it wet even in the worst rain storm.

r/CampingGear • Kelty, Coleman or Big Agnes Tent? ->Marmot Tungsten, Naturehike Mongar 2p, Big Agnes Copper Spur, Durston X-Dome... Lots of great options out there. Get a tent with a mesh body, not a solid body, for summer. The Sundomes is a good tent but gets hot and doesn't air out as well as a higher grade shelter since it has mostly solid walls.
r/CampingGear • Small tent that can handle lots of rain ->The tungstens are awesome. A little heavy and bulky for backpacking but you can totally make it work too. I have a 1p and 3p and they are my go to for car camping. I used to use them for backpacking until I got lighter stuff.
