Yeah for sure. Get two tents. I'd still make one of them a big pyramid or a tarp, because all of you could hang out in that one on rainy days. If you got a 4 person pyramid with a two person inner tent, then the dog could use the floorless half. Or pitch just the outer and you can all hang out. Then get a 3p tent for the rest of you. I like the Tarptent Cloudburst 3...it's a true 3p tent, super spacious, nice form factor with the vertical end walls. Not the lightest, but also reasonably priced. I guess you didn't give a budget.

Tarptent is the best. We have the Cloudburst. We had a question and called the company and Harry was the one who answered the phone. You’re not gonna get that kind of customer service with BA or any large producer.

The answer is a 3p tent. We use the Tarptent Cloudburst. Lightweight and easy to pitch

Given the presence of the Hornet on this list I'm going assume you can consider non-freestanding tents. Given that, how about the Tarptent Cloudburst 3? I'm making a similar decision for similar reasons and also around the PNW, and it's high on my list. It is single-wall, but the walls are so steep I don't think getting condensation on your quilt would be a big issue, but you can also add an option liner that makes it effectively double wall.

My two kids and I use the cloudburst 3. It's a very good tent and the lightest 3p tent I could find. Single wall is no problem if you learn how to mitigate condensation. There's also an optional interior liner to help manage condensation. It's a great tent highly recommended.

I’m pro Tarptent but the Cloudburst 3 would be a better option, IMO. The doors are at the foot and head and of the tent, so you can enter and exit without climbing over someone. It’s also palatial, and can definitely fit 3 24-inch pads.

The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 is the QUEEN of 3person tents. It *will* get a bit cramped once you have two adult-sized boys, but it’s still doable. But at that point, you’ll be at the end of that tent’s lifespan (newer tents will be much lighter) and/or the boys are gonna want to sleep alone in their own tent. For an even lighter option, the Tarptent Triple Rainbow, Hogback, or Cloudburst 3 person tents are all great choices. One thing to consider: double doors are more pleasant with two people … but with 3, you may want a front-opening single-door tent like the Cloudburst. That way, nobody needs to climb over anyone else for the bathroom. The Cloudburst also won’t feel too tight with an adult and two adult-size kids. It has TWO openings/vestibules but they’re positioned at the head and foot, so no climbing over your friends.

Came here to say this. I backpack with my two kids (9 & 11) in the Cloudburst. However, it only works with 20 inch wide sleeping mats.
