"Last month got rear ended by person on the phone. ... I downloaded the event clip from the mobile app and was able to show the video to the police on the spot. ... The other driver got a ticket for using the phone."
"But both work great and I would 100% get front and rear."

"it records in minute increments, which makes viewing footage a pain. ... There are an enormous number of files associated with a day of driving."

"The app. It's a complete pain in the ass to view any footage ... it won't update the firmware because the dashcam connects to my phone via wifi and if it's connected via wifi, there's not any actual Internet access from the cellular signal so it can never update 🤣 what a joke."
This was my 3rd Blackvue and my 900S Dual Channel from 2020 just kicked the bucket. Same as OP my rear camera will no longer be seen my Dashcam. I think I am saying "Adios" to Blackvue and going to look for something better or at least more reliable.
A little out of your price range but 70mai A810 is really good. I have it on most of my cars. I have a couple of A800s, which are pretty good (and closer to your budget) and a BlackVue 900s and 900x. BlackVue cameras are good quality but the app is so bad. I’m considering replacing both my BlackVue with the upcoming 70mai T800 camera (they are having a Kickstarter now - launches in August 2025)
Been using my BlackVue 900S since 2018. Back from when I was driving a 2017 Toyota 86. I've since have transferred it over two cars until this one
I have personally used the Blackvue 900S (died after 6 years) and now the Viofo A329S (3 channel) which I'm also very happy with. Both have excellent parking modes. Both were hardwired to provide recording while parked. The third channel (fisheye) allows for angles on the side that your front and rear camera won't catch. I opted for the A329 because it allows you to plug in a SSD drive. My micro SD card is 128 gig, the SSD is 2 terabytes. If you're concerned about battery drain, look into getting an external battery pack. I know these things are expensive but once you're involved in an accident, you'll be happy you spent the money.
RedTiger from Amazon Doesn’t have the blackvue price tag and runs fine so far after 8 months on the missus’ car. Mind you my blackvue 900S on my car is still working great after 4 years.
This is pretty much what I did. But I have the dedicated battery in the glove box and it’s being charged using the hidden cigarette lighter. Wires are tucked in the A pillar and the roof to the back camera. I have BlackVue dr900 2ch with the B-124X battery. This setup lasted overnight easily. Estimated 16 hours in the app but probably less. It required about 30 mins of driving to recharge from 0. The Viofo cameras are a great option too.
Blackvue 900 works for me, front and rear. Minimalistic look.
I have a Blackvue front/rear. Solid units and they stand up to the nasty summer heat here.
Used a blackvue 9 series for me
Currently using a Blackvue two-channel model on our 2021 XV. Never had any issues. Dashcam is married to a Blackvue B112 battery that keeps the dashcam independent of the car battery and can run the dashcam for up to 12 hours whilst parked. https://preview.redd.it/tr3bu7gr8gbf1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29a03356c531767120add2fceb922c5efee4258a
Same dashcam on our Outback but a B124X battery that runs the dashcam for up to 24 hours whilst parked. https://preview.redd.it/lpnq0dn19gbf1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e6f04f3824f7604357bc26b041e0bdffad368c5
Currently using Blackvue. 4K front, 2K rear. Both cars.
We use Blackvue in both our cars - two channel models for front and rear cam. My car's dashcam is married to Blackvue B124X battery to allow the dashcam to run whilst parked for up to 24 hours, and my other half's car runs the same dashcam but on a B112 battery which is the same technology, but smaller, only allowing the dashcam to operate for up to 12 hours whilst parked.
