"I have U3000 and night vision is great. ... I was rear ended 3 days after install at night and footage shows every expression on the ladies face as she slammed into me."
"records clear enough in day and night to submit to insurance or a YouTube channel"
"i want the best resolution camera back there, and the dual ones out there, including fitcamx, all have 1080p res. the viofo is 4k ... the last 5 cars have all had front and rear cameras, and at least 3 times we got punted in the rear, not once in the front. one time some dumbass ran in to us at the wendys drive thru. another was when we were stopped at a red lite."

"i have had the BlackVue DR970x Plus which proved bulletproof during the hottest Summer on record last year. my credit cards and ID’s all had to be replaced because they melted and warped, but the BlackVue keeps running without issues."
"I have Viofo A229Pro for 2 years and a half. No issue so far."
"Yeah they are specifically better in the heat than other cameras because they use a super capacitor instead of a battery to do the final writing to the SD card when the power gets cut by your car. ... Batteries tend to have issues in extreme heat/cold"

"it fits great behind the rear view mirror. ... from the drivers seat you cant even tell its there and its well below the Eyesight cameras. ... Highly recommend"
"it ’s so discrete no screen in your face ... I went for the discreteness of the camera"

"Me too. And I use Apple Airpods. $$$$$"
"$179 is pretty nuts. ... As long as people keep buying them and paying the esports tax, they're gonna keep selling them at this crazy price. ... The G305 feels really similar, but at 1/3 the price. ... I don't truely understand why the G pro light is all the rage. ... I used a G pro for a week, and while it did feel very smooth and responsive, I also had a G305 that felt very similar."
"overpriced and don't ever prove the price difference in sound over the az100."

"they cut of sometimes from discord.. ... i have to unplug the transmitter and plug it back in.."
"The app. It's a complete pain in the ass to view any footage ... it won't update the firmware because the dashcam connects to my phone via wifi and if it's connected via wifi, there's not any actual Internet access from the cellular signal so it can never update 🤣 what a joke."

"the footage only lasts for 24hrs so if I don’t download it that day it’s gone forever"
"it records in minute increments, which makes viewing footage a pain. ... There are an enormous number of files associated with a day of driving."

"My DR970X Plus from JAN 2025 through JAN 2025 does NOT have HDR and is being returned immediately. ... HDR is not a fad, passing trend, or conspiracy pushed by Alex Jones. It the most basic item a camera must have to be useful at capturing details like license plates. ... Without HDR you might as well replace the recorded footage with the Windows 98 Bezier screensaver and extra-long mouse cursor trails. ... Recording a grainy blur in 4K is a high-quality grainy blur but it's still a grainy blur."
"The video quality is not worthy of its price."
BlackVue for my wife and my car I you uber , I used code “Weflyhere” to save a bit since there on the pricey side. https://blackvue.com/ref/296/
Took my car to Dashcam Specialist in west Ryde and costed me 1100 for a blackvue 970x plus 2ch with installation lol
if heat is the concern, make sure to buy a dash cam that has supercapacitors rather than batteries. i have had the BlackVue DR970x Plus which proved bulletproof during the hottest Summer on record last year. my credit cards and ID’s all had to be replaced because they melted and warped, but the BlackVue keeps running without issues. other brands that use capacitors, Viofo, Vantrue and Thinkware. Viofo tends to get the most love around here (for good reasons), but i hated the aesthetics of it and how it looked on my windshield. I was able to stealth-mount the BlackVue in a manner where it’s hidden out of my view behind the rear view mirror.
BlackVue DR970x plus. I have one in all 3 of my Subarus and a Honda. Saved my butt when I got rear ended and was blamed for slamming on my brakes. Video evidence showed way different.
You need to choose between a wide field view or a narrow focus on plates, and almost all cams choose the former. Add in low quality cameras and video compressed for uploading and you get what you describe. Thinkware U3000 and Blackvue DR970x plus are decent options.

You’re looking for at least a two channel dashcam with cloud features that has parking mode. I personally use the BlackVue DR970X Plus but you also need to have an external LTE module if you got that route. It also either needs to be hardwired or you need to purchase an external battery pack. Not gonna lie, it can get pricey to have all these features.
Or just get the 970x Plus with the built-in LTE module if you’re going that route
I went with a Blackvue 970X-2CH Box. Liked that this unit had a control module that you can mount under the dash or other location. For me I wanted 2 cameras, parking mode, and high quality video in as small of a package as possible. This met that need. I have the Mountains 2 Metal attic shelf and was able to mount the rear camera to that. (I’ve got a soft top)
Head over to r/dashcam for some good recommendations. The BlackVue DR970X-2CH was what we went with.
