r/Civic_Type_RDash Cam: Hardwire questions
about 2 months ago

I run BlackVue DR970X-LTE 2 channel hardwired in mine. Also used the same add-a-fuse for my Uniden R8. BlackVue has served me well. Love the parking mode as well as the LTE connection. The process was pretty easy.

If you park where there is wifi Thinkware u3000. Decent product, and top customer service in many countries. If not a 4k Blackue LTE or Box model. Getting through a reseller provides another customer service option. You can get an ODB2 power cable for either.

>Ideally like a front and rear camera that's quality will not let me down day/night if I need vehicle registrations. Marketing lies. Registrations are hot and miss outside of ideal conditions. >I want this to be a one time purchase, install setup and forget, so long term reliability is paramount. Blackvue DR 970x plus ii is going to be your best option. Thinkware U3000 or Viofo would be second and 3rdm Ideally I'd like it hardwired so it starts with my car (I'd have no clue how to do this, so guides would be essential or direction to installers near to Crawley, UK). Buy the ODB2 kit, and it's plug and play. >I don't want my battery dying on me so how do you avoid this? You set the voltage cut off to 12.4 when it's below freezing and 12.0 when it's above. >Are there wireless rear cameras? Nope.

Blackvue DR970x plus series 2 is a great option. They shortened up the boot time, and upgraded a few other internals.

A dashcam is your get out jail pass it is ESSENTIAL. It’s another form of insurance As long as you properly mount it and it sees what it needs too and provides the correct date and speed. It will protect you from others that insurance fraud/scam. Some also have parking mode which will capture and record anyone that does a hit and run or looks too sketchy lurking around your car. I bought a cheap one on Amazon thinking it was enough. It failed, when I needed it the most. So I invested in a $700 CDN one. Blackvue DR970x Front and Rear camera

Bought a blackvue dual front & back camera with parking mode. Watched YouTube videos of day and night performance and readability of license plates. Video clips are corded in 60 second increments with overlap start and finish. Last month got rear ended by person on the phone. They didn’t know I had a camera and they called the cops. I downloaded the event clip from the mobile app and was able to show the video to the police on the spot. The other driver got a ticket for using the phone.

r/DashcamBest basic dash cam? NO WiFi connectivity or sketchy apps
4 months ago

The WIFI connectivity in any dashcam is strictly to provide a faster data transfer speeds when accessing your recorded video clips on the camera. The use of bluetooth is too slow to stream or download large video files. Bluetooth on a dashcam is primarily for pairing your smartphone with the dashcam. In the event of an accident, having Wifi on your dashcam enables you to download the recorded clip onto your smartphone so that you can show it the cop when they show up and prove you are not at fault. In order for your dashcam to access the internet, it would require a cellular sim card connection or for some dashcams an LTE module. Most new dashcam user associate WIFI with Internet. Which is misleading. I use the the BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus II 4K with Front & Rear camera. I also use the included app to download the clips. My dashcam wifi is turned off after each use.

i bought the Blackvue DR970X 2 Channel Front & Rear3 years ago. it sits at the top of the windshield above the rear view mirror attached directly to the windshield. it’s hard wired and will shut off in parking mode if the car battery voltage dips to a preset voltage, alternatively there are external power cell batteries facilitate parking mode.

Blackvue DR970X Dual Channel (Front & Rear cameras) Stopped at a traffic light on a slight hill, vehicle behind me was on their phone. Thru the rear view mirror watched as the car behind inched closer and closer then they hit my rear tire carrier and scraped their front hood against my tire carrier. Both pulled over and the other driver went all karen with speed dialing the police. as that was happening i was downloading the dashcam video onto my ipad for viewing thru the dashcam app. Police arrived, woman was being very dramatic and said I backed into her and she got whiplash and yadda yadda yadda. When the officer approached me I showed him the camera footage and the dashcam data, force of impact by the woman’s car etc. shared the video to the office on the spot. officer walked to her and she became more dramatic, oscar worthy!!! when the officer explained to the woman that he viewed the dashcam footage she stopped being dramatic, gave the finger salute and got back her car as if nothing happened and told the both of us to fuck off and satan would avenge. officer told me i could leave, gave me his card if there were any problems. the 2nd incident while vehicle was parked in the street and motion sensors tripped along with an impact detection, got a notification on my phone of a hit and run attempt. captured on dashcam parking mode. dashcam paid for itself. if your looking for a dashcam, check video footage reviews where you can see the quality of the dashcam. especially at night, rain, fog etc.

For great cloud connectivity and remote live viewin, I bought a Blackvue DR970X-2CH LTE PLUS for my 23 Forester Wilderness and had Best Buy geek squad install it for $100 ..but they won't install dash cameras that have a screen on them because of safety reasons and I'm glad I didn't get one of those.

Lots of people will suggest Fitcam, but if you want quality go with Thinkware or Blackvue. They are reputable Korean brands and well-known in the dash cam world. I have a DR970X-2CH LTE Plus. I can connect to it at any time from my phone and view a live feed of the front and my truck bed.

BlackVue-970X-2CH LTE! It’s a bit conspicuous, and pretty pricey compared to other options, but the footage is outstanding and it hasn’t failed me yet!

I like the constant recording, I changed after somebody hit my car whilst park, the next base turned on but took about 10 seconds before video. Fortunately it got the side of the car from the rear and a good shot of the guy inspecting the damage before he fucked off… From a test with the BV it would have got the car from the front when he entered the car park in its line of sight. Only thing I find bad is the cost of the sd cards in the uk, the 1/2tb is ~$100 whilst the 256gb is £190… I did try a Samsung pro endurance but it didn’t like it causing glitches. The other one I considered was the thinkware.

I went with a blackvue 970x lte. Had a nextbase fitted when I brought the car by the dealer, got it removed after I was hit in a car park and the footage started about 8 seconds after impact… just getting the footage off was annoying.
