Tbh, both the front and rear cameras of my vantrue S1PM capture clear footage, which has been helpful when I needed accident evidence.

r/Dashcam • Recs for a dash cam, plz. ->I just picked up the Vantrue S1 Pro Max and it has all that AI monitoring. So far it’s been great. It caught me nodding off a few times and the alert immediately jolted me awake.
r/dashcams • What's yall thoughts on AI dashcam? ->The dashcam is tricky in the CX-30 because all of the accessory fuses and connections are in the engine compartment. Everything in the cabin runs straight to the battery (including the USB ports, unless that changed for 2025). I deal with this by setting my dashcam to go into a low power parking mode where it only wakes up if the car is hit. (Since my car is in my garage, that is unlikely.) That sleep mode is deep enough that it hasn't affected the battery - though it might if your car sits undriven for many weeks at a time. I ended up getting my power from the OBD2 port under the driver's side dash. It is the computer port used for diagnosing the car, but it is only used when the car is being serviced. It is much easier than trying to tap a wire or fuse. Most of the big name dashcam manufacturers make a OBD2 wiring kit as an accessory - but make sure they have one before you choose a particular model. Here are some good choices that I considered. (These are all 2 camera models because you are far more likely to be rear ended than for you to hit something in the front.) In descending order of capability they are: * VIOFO A229 Pro 4K * Vantrue S1 Pro Max * VIOFO A229 Plus

They lasted for almost 2 years before dying in the mighty British summer heat (a shortwhile after the Garmin Mini 3 came out). I only realised they were not functioning properly after a spectacular crash occurred in front of me on the motorway and I found my front cam footage of the incident was black with green static and my rear cam was black and white with bright green highlights. I have replaced them with a Viofo A119 v3 for the rear and a Vantrue S1 Pro Max for the front. Both review well and seem to be a step up on the Garmin Mini's.

r/dashcams • Which one should I get? ->It’s just a standard hi-def VanTrue with the cigarette lighter plug that I keep in a small bag in my backpack. Takes about 15 seconds to stick the suction cup on the windshield and plug it in. Another tip is as you are driving around and someone looks like they might be silly: read the license plate out loud. Sometimes, especially at night, the camera won’t pick up the plate so reading it out loud will capture the information. 99% of the time it isn’t needed but the one time you do need it, ya got it. With big trucks, if you can, read the DOT number off the side of the truck. You can actually look that number up on the Department of Transportation website and get business information and phone numbers. On more than one occasion I have read that number, used Siri to look up the information, get the phone number, call the business and complain to the manager (including telling them I have dash camera footage) within a few minutes. On two occasions I’ve even seen drivers then answer their phone, listen for a moment then look back at me with a wide stare. Very satisfying.
