"The app. It's a complete pain in the ass to view any footage ... it won't update the firmware because the dashcam connects to my phone via wifi and if it's connected via wifi, there's not any actual Internet access from the cellular signal so it can never update 🤣 what a joke."
ive my my Blackvue DR900X Dual Channel (front and rear) for almost 3 years now its great, has a great picture, plus its small and doesn't stick out much hindering your view, but they are pricey, i got mine for 200 off the price with end of year sales
I’ve installed Blackvue cams (2Ch) in all of my cars. All were easily hidden behind the rearview except the 2024 model Toyota that has a lot more features that fit in the space behind the mirror. For that car, the camera sits a little below the mirror and is not completely tucked out of view.
I have a Blackvue front/rear. Solid units and they stand up to the nasty summer heat here.
I’ve been running a BlackVue DR900X‑2CH for over a year and it’s been rock solid. The front 4K sensor picks up plates at night and the rear 1080p lens covers everything behind me.
Blackboxmycar.com and Vortex Radar on YouTube do amazing reviews and comparisons. I have a Blackvue 2 channel in my wagon and just put a Viofo A329s 3 channel in my new daily. Dual mode hybrid parking recording and lots of nice features on the viofo. Though I prefer the form factor of the blackvue.
BlackVue dual channel. Great footage but the app is hot garbage but this seems like to be the case for majority of cam apps. Once you get into it though, the footages you can download to review is very clear.
I have had a Blackvue 900X in my 2022 ORP and love it. Rear view came in handy a few months ago. Check my post history in r/dashcams.
A little out of your price range but 70mai A810 is really good. I have it on most of my cars. I have a couple of A800s, which are pretty good (and closer to your budget) and a BlackVue 900s and 900x. BlackVue cameras are good quality but the app is so bad. I’m considering replacing both my BlackVue with the upcoming 70mai T800 camera (they are having a Kickstarter now - launches in August 2025)
I've been using a Blackvue DR900X-2CH 4K dashcam for the past 4 years. It was a backup to the Tesla dashcam (known to be glitchy and miss recording early on), and I moved it to my Polestar 3 after selling the Tesla. I run it off the Blackvue Power Magic Ultra Battery B-124X for parking mode and battery drain protection. I plug the 12v adapter into the car's 12v socket to power the battery and set it to B-124X battery (not car battery) only mode when parked. The camera is plugged intot he B-124X and switches to parking mode after motion is not detected for about 1 minute. During driving, no drain at all. If you don't have a battery backup, then I'd set the camera to shut off w/ the car is parked instead of using parking mode.
I've had a Blackvue DR900X 2-channel (front and rear) for years. Had it hardwired into my M235i, pulled it out when I traded that in for my i4, and have been using it in the i4 for almost 3 years. I haven't hardwired it in to the i4 because I've been super lazy so I've only been using the front camera, and the 12v outlet. Whatever I get when this lease ends in May next year will get it hardwired in front and rear again. The picture quality is great, and although I used to really hate the app, they have made improvements recently that have made it better. I've also heard great things about Viofo dashcams, but have never used one.
