Breville - Precision Brewer Glass (BDC400BSS)

I have the glass carafe version, got it for $110 open box. Both the breville brewer and baratza encore that I bought at the same time have been amazing for 5 years daily use now

I sold my precision brewer after a while, partly because of it being difficult to clean properly. I picked up a Breville Precision Brewer at TJMaxx for $179 & havent looked back. It makes a great cup, once you figure out your settings. I havent tried it, but I hear the cold brew function on it is a joke, though. Really good coffee beans make all the difference in the world too. If you are going to go through the trouble of finding a really good coffee maker, find a local roaster & brew good beans. Cheers!!

Same. Bought it full price though but worth it. They're called Sage in Europe (I guess the website redirects though) and they also have a glass carafe one with heat plate but don't get that. The insulated one will keep your coffee warm for roughly a working day and heat plates burn your coffee.

They are really simple machines so getting one that is more expensive means it is probably full of features you don't need but that are points of failure. You really need to go high end on drip machines. Like, my programmable Sage (Breville outside of the EU) Precision Brewer is great but it's a 300€ machine. Even a Moccamaster is just a 300€ machine that has two buttons. On/off and half / full can. It's maybe a bit more stylish. It might have a more complex program, it might have higher quality materials. But none of that matters if you don't grind your coffee in the morning. You can throw some store bought pre ground garbage into the cheapest coffee maker you can find and it will taste the same. So just get the 30€ one and replace it every 2 years. Everything between 30 and 300€ is just the 30€ machine with a timer.

That's exactly how I use my precision. I also swapped to it from a pour over setup for convenience. I'm really happy with it.

Breville precision, pricey but solid.

I had this exact same issue and I never see it referenced in positive reviews of the machine. I would use special cleaners for straws to get into the lid and it would come out dark brown no matter how hard I tried to clean it thoroughly.

I wouldn't really consider it to be a one machine to rule them all type of machine because it is non-adjustable other than the amounts of coffee and water you use. But there is a machine that I would consider to be that, and an excellent machine all-around: The Breville Precision. Totally configurable, and is Hoffman's daily driver, in fact.

If you can squeak out a few more dollars (or find it on sale) check out the Breville Lux Brewer. I have the Precision brewer for 5 years or so and its been outstanding and I would recommend except it does not have a removeable reservoir (I wish it did!). Looks like the Lux Brewer has the same functionality but has the removeable reservoir. I dont know if it can do single cups without using the carafe, but its completely capable of making single cup qtys because thats pretty much all I use it for. It has a bunch of other cool features like cold brew, pour over adapter, and things like that. Its programmable to whatever recipe you want but I almost always use the default gold setting. It makes great coffee provided you use good beans, grind, water quality, and so forth. There are cheaper ones, but this is the one that I would go for as it uses an insulated carafe instead of a warmer plate. If you’re in the US, go find a local TJ Maxx or Marshall’s. They typically have Breville Precision Brewers for on sale for $179. I actually got one for $89 recently. Any of those on your list will be perfectly fine though. I like the OXO stuff for the money, but if you can wait on a moccamaster sale you’d be in good shape. It’s not my favorite brewer at MSRP (I much prefer the Breville precision, the Ratio 6, and the Fellow Aiden—all of which I’ve owned), but if you can get it around $200 it’s great.

If you’re using a good machine and grinder there’s really no quality difference whatsoever once you’re dialed in. Drip and pour over are conceptually the same thing, it’s just a matter of if you wanna do it yourself or not. I make pour overs for smaller weekend or evening cups, batch/drip for mornings before work to save time and brew larger cups. Using a Fellow Aiden currently, which has been great but also have the Breville Precision (also great) and have had the Ratio 6 and Moccamaster previously.
