I am in the same boat. I did inherit Moccamaster GCS from my grandmother. I belive its from the 90'ties and it just keep going and I just love the design. Its a shame they dont make that model any more.
My moccamaster is literally over 30 years old and works like a charm. And if something breaks spare parts are easy to buy and actually still fit. Everything should be made like this.
Granted we have what we call "soft" water but i think we descaled our old moccamaster once in like...12 years. Gave it away because we upgraded to a more expensive moccamaster, so it was still going strong then.
I have one and only brew about 680ml of coffee daily / about 23oz. We have the model with the smaller glass pot that is switchable between a full and partial pot. Has been going strong brewing every single day the last few years.
Love the thermal too! I got the 10 cup version which is glass on the inside. I do think it improves taste!
I've been using the glass one for 5 years now and I've given it a fair share of accidental bumps and whacks into the counter top or the sink and have had no issues. Glass quality for a coffee machine isn't thicker=better If you feel yours has a manufacturing defect, contact customer support and get it replaced.
Since getting my moccamaster i will never recommend anything else
This is the answer. Absolutely love ours and parts for repair are readily available
There's no mental gymnastics involved if you care about a better end product. If coffee is just a 'cup of jo' for you then you probably won't care enough about the difference
Moccamaster is the answer
Theyre great! And still designed to be easily repairable. They also make a way better cup of coffee.
I have the glass carafe and thats what I would recommend. Some people prefer the stainless carafe with no heater but I like the glass. You can also find them on sale quite often.
They do go on sale, but you can also install the capital one shopping extension, view the product on Amazon, and check for competing offers from other retailers. I got an offer from abt electronics for like $215 during last year's holiday season. I've also seen lightly used MMs on FB marketplace for 150ish. If youre gifting, get the glass carafe--its much easier to clean and coffee stays plenty hot. Good luck!
I have the glass one. It's very easy to use and clean.
Very nice! I have a Douwe Egbertts Excellent 10s roughly 40 years old! Basically a rebranded moccamaster from Technivorn.
