"The roborock I have kicked and smashed with my foot so many times out of anger when it doesn't collaborate, and still he rocks 4-5 yrs later and no broken parts"
"I've used it daily for at least 10 years now, probably closer to 15 and apart from the fact you need to clean it periodically, it's still works like brand new."
"One huge leg up for a Shark over Roomba is that the brush roller is similar to a vacuum (e.g. hard plastic), whereas the roomba is a plastic roller with a rubber cover that is DESTROYED by dog fur and you have to frequently replace."

"The battery power lasts about 5-6 days for me (note that I use it a lot throughout the day), so I only bring in my scooter one night every week."
"the battery size (and therefore range) is about the max I’d want for a commuting scooter. ... Range is more than enough for me. ... realistically it’s about 20 miles at 19 mph and for this type of vehicle, that is more than enough. ... Scooters are really best for ~5-10 mile rides."
"Battery is solid and longest I have done is 48km on a full charge, and it still had some juice left."

"Max G3 absolutely eats a serious slope and keeps on moving pretty quick for my commuting needs."
"Zips my 230lbs around the hills of Seattle at 20mph."

"So you can build one like I did with my hacked ninebot g30 and then run at variable vintage and capacities. ... Currently using the g30 with m365 pro 2 brain and 500W motor. Overvolted to 50V with a 12v booster pack I can connect. ... Extended base with 3D printed ring and it fits a 12s10 battery and the m365 brain mounted inside. ... Dual after market suspension and at one point ran it dual motor."
"About to put a different motor in that supposedly has stupid amount of torque. ... Some guys are running 30s now with this specific motor to have stupid torque in a single motor and have an 80mph top speed... ... I pull wheelie at 40mph by just pressing the throttle. ... I should be able to top out around 40mph without field weakening and maybe 45mph with a little field weakening and this is on 60v. Supposed to have backflip torque available lol. Perfect for all the mountains I'm around."
"Scooter used was a few hundred bucks, batteries about 2-300$ and other random parts and connectors about 50$. The time is all you need to create an absolute monster.... With a lil ingenuity he could have a real tank for cheap"

"the Doona is sooooo heavy! ... I can barely carry it, I need my husband to do it every time lol."
"No, that thing is a monster. Add a kid, and you have like 40 lbs to carry with one arm twisted."
"Way too heavy. ... Trust me and my 22 pound baby you do not wanna"

"But that and the evenflow have zero suspension - nearly launched her out hitting an uneven sidewalk one day."
"when I tried a friend's F2 Pro,on somewhat degraded roads, it felt like I was going to damage my spinal cord lol, lack of back suspension really shakes you like a tree."
"No suspension is up to personal preference in my opinion; it’s going to be less maintenance and less things to go wrong, but it can be a rough ride when hitting bumps in the road."

"And if you’re hitting an incline, it’ll drop you to an easy 10mph when max on sport mode is 18.5mph or so."
"At 190lbs, I had one for 2yrs and it did not take hills well"
"The hill totally stops my G30"

"tire changes are a nightmare ... changing the tyres were a lesson in extreme frustration"
"Stay away from kukirin they have left me with a snapped scooter ... it snapped going 7 mile on flat ground ... After 6 months utter junk"
"be prepared for daily and monthly maintenance. ... air tires: checking these constantly. ... If you live an urban environment with rough roads (eg Boston; NYC) you may want air tires (softer ride), but you trade off with maintenance. Check daily. ... if you ride your brake, with regular commuting (5x a week), you will go through brakes every 3 months. ... high maintenance scooters (to maintain daily performance)"

"You said 30MPH, I don't know if you want to go that fast or if that's just the speed limit, but bear in mind that the G30 tops out at around 20MPH and barely gets even there."
"My only complaint on mine is the 19 mph top speed can feel a bit slow on longer straight roads"
"It has two flaws: relatively slow maximum speed even unrestricted"
Yes the g30lp is smaller by a bit and a smaller battery. Range on the g30lp should still be good for college. If u can swing the g30p it’s really a solid choice. Size of rider matters as well I had to get that model I am 6’2” the little ones don’t work for me. Oh also the charging is a little different I believe the g30lp uses a brick charger while the g30p can use either a brick charger or the built in charger via cable. It’s the one I prefer. I have 6k miles on this scooter and only have had to do maintenance, replace a tire a fender and a throttle. It’s been very good, rides well even in weather. Hope this helped good luck with ur purchase and congrats on the college acceptance.
Yes both height and weight play into it and the smaller ones don’t feel as steady being larger. The g30p is almost to small the newer versions like the g2 and g3 r a wee bit larger but of course like 1k price tag oof. The g30p tho just fits for me at 6’ 2” 220lbs. Gonna cost a wee more for the g30p but that’s ok. Look at the G2 tho price may be similar rn idk haven’t looked in a bit.
Segway g30lp $299 on eBay. I bought one last year and it’s solid. [here](https://ebay.us/m/leruJK)
Go to Walmart.com and pick up a refurbished Segway g30lp. I did this almost a year ago. And I have yet to find a hill it can’t climb. I bought a refurbished Segway g30lp from Walmart last year. They were selling for $250 at the time. It’s my first scooter and it’s a solid, well built machine. If it does ever break. Parts for these are abundant, and easily swapped out.
Is it a $500 giftcard? Because if it is it could very well be worth putting a small cash payment on top as well. I'm not sure what's available on amazon but it could get you into a different class of scooter. The G30LP is a great beginner scooter but I wish I had bought something a bit better to start with (to avoid upgrade-itis)
Completely up to you, but as a G30 rider (when shit was cheap pre-covid) the lack of suspension and the short handlebars were such a pain. I just feel like the G2 is such a huge step up that it would be worth paying the extra. But again, it's your scooter and cash. Just giving my experience :)
Seconded. I got the Max G30LP for Christmas, and have put more than 300 miles on it since then, just commuting around the city a few times a week. I did a rough estimates to find that is about $900 saved in rental fees, which would more than pay for itself. It feels sturdy and good quality. That said, if you're truly commuting daily, you may consider the Max G2, which has a suspension to make your ride a little more comfy. I got my Segway g30lp for 300 off of marketplace and I’m pretty happy with it. Gets you up the hill at a decent speed which I feel is a must, and is a durable build which should last a few years at least. Definitely need a good lock though, my roommate caught someone cutting through his lol
I’m surprised a 500w couldn’t do it, I seem to remember going around 9 mph up the steepest part of the Hill right after the crosswalk. G30lp only has 350w and I’ve never had to kick it up any roads, although I’m a little lighter at 150lbs. According to Segway it can handle up to 20% incline which is quite steep
Buy a preowner ninebot G30 max or a G30lp max. App controlled so you can adjust speed. Has remote lock and is something he can grow into. Plus its very reliable
Hello buy a segway NINEBOT max. They are affordable and have been around for a while. So really proven. I have the g30lp its not the fastest but its like the iphone of scooter. User friendly. And has an app so you can lock it and track it and even control the speed as a parent

I’ve got a Segway Ninebot Max G30LP. Got it for a great deal, and haven’t had a single complaint on it. Haven’t used my car in forever cuz I can just zip around in a few minutes. The battery power lasts about 5-6 days for me (note that I use it a lot throughout the day), so I only bring in my scooter one night every week. As for bringing it in my dorm (Moses), RAs don’t care I bring in my scooter to charge. I’ve walked past the RAs a couple times and they don’t care. Just make sure not to leave it in your room over winter break or summer and you’re good.
If you can bump up the budget the Segway G30LP will be a good one to set him for the next few years. You could also go for the G30 Max to future proof if he needs more distance or climb higher gradients (motor is better and battery is twice the range). Both models are reliable, easy to maintain and replacement parts are readily available, affordable to buy and change yourself. Just ensure they do regular maintenance checks, don’t run the battery down below 15-20% where possible, keep psi topped up and have him wear a helmet as minimum safety gear. You can also control speeds via the dedicated app too. FWIW, I recently did an analysis on Reddit data for electric scooters, ranking them by aggregated sentiment. Maybe you'll find it helpful [https://redditrecs.com/electric-scooter/](https://redditrecs.com/electric-scooter/) You can filter for what's good for hills and get a breakdown of what ppl have said about the most often recommended ones (disclaimer some links are affiliate they help fund the analyses)

I wanted a lightweight but also a decent range. If it is discounted, I would consider G30 LP. I did 800 miles in 7 months, including snowy and rainy weathers under 20F in winter, and had no issues. The best part is, you can fold and take it to bus or subway with you. Not very light but carriable.
G30LP here. Have been using over a year now on daily basis. Freezing cold and rain included. It has been really well performing so far and 0 issues apart from a flat tire which I got it fixed On my way to home.
You roll the dice with any of them. Personally I'd buy a used but nice segway max g30p. It's pretty basic but is a nice ride and decent range. If you don't need as much range grab a g30lp instead. g30p is a nicer ride though.
