My advice is to go for a highly affordable starter microphone such as the Behringer XM8500 to figure out basic setup, and to shop around, try and return until you find the one mic you're happy to upgrade to. Much to my own surprise, I'm currently on a 30 Euro stage condenser, Behringer SB78A, which has a fairly open-sounding proximity effect.
