I just literally bought the family these smartwatches. 2 GTR Minis, a Band 7, and Bip3 Pro. $275 all in. All of them are *years* old, and behind the curve technologically...and they've all been great. Exactly what I wanted. Honestly, at this point I don't care if they are the cheap discount brand, I'm happy. The only thing I will say to be wary of is kind of niche advice; if you have big wrists, get a 3rd party band. I have an 8.2" wrist, and obviously the stock silicone band is working overtime.

Look at the Amazfit line. Super cheap, gps, can do notifications and great battery life. I have the GTR mini.

I've had the GTR now daily for over 4 years. No problem at all and the battery still hold 3 weeks

I gifted this to my mum, battery life is so-so considering my amazfit GTR needs charge once in a few weeks.

I feel like this is a great point. I have the Amazfit GTR and it was good, but I don’t like the app. Some of the data seemed questionable and I would pair it against other devices and fine the results to be very different.
