"the fact that they integrate to the Apple Watch simply cannot be understated for me, I couldn’t go back to Garmin now, it is just so much part of my life now. ... Tracking weightlifting workouts, nutrition and other stuff, analysis of the data, send messages to HomePod, changing NC automatically, sending emails …."

"I unlock my computer and phone with it."

"On the Apple Watch you can be listening to Spotify at your desk, phone, livingroom, car, etc and then hit the device button on the watch and select the watch and Spotify Connect will transfer playback to the watch without missing a beat. ... You don't have to fumble around on a tiny touch screen to locate the playlist you were listening to on your phone so you can continue on the watch. You simply transfer playback and go. ... Mid run if you want to listen to something else, you simply ask Siri and it will play what ever you ask for, no presyncing or phone is necessary."

"my AW alerted me to heart irregularities that sent me to the ER and findings of a small heart attack and a secondary artery in my heart with 99% blockage. I am AW for life now."

"I’m one of those people the Apple Watch sent to the doctors 6 years ago and I had heart surgery in August! So it technically saved my life!"

"The later AW is best in class for non chest straps. ... For daily fitness, Apple Watch is just better IMO. ... It being the most accurate heart rate tracker not a chest strap makes it the best fitness tracker to me. ... Maybe I should say it's the best workout recorder because it records the most accurate heart rate data. ... I just really like the AW for every day fitness more so than what Coros or Garmin can provide. ... Executing a training plan I've set out for myself and recording the results. Results being the duration and heart rate data during the planned workouts. I then upload that data to Training Peaks and use Training Peaks to keep up with my training load over time. So the every day fitness part is executing and recording my workouts. ... Apple Watch is data recording. Together they are tracking my fitness."

"If you are in long sleeves in the rain, you need to lock the touchscreen to prevent accidental touches. But that prevents you from using the touchscreen without holding to unlock for a few seconds. So if you are doing intervals, it can be hard to end the interval quickly."

"The biggest issue for me on the AW that stops me going only AW is Sweat. ... The screen becomes impossible to use when I hot and sweaty. I mean completely unresponsive. Can’t press the music controls, can swipe the screen etc."

"I already got sick and tired of touch screens with my Apple Watch ... Dripping sweat, rain and sleeves really screw with touch screens ... where I live we have like 6 months worth of snow so needing to take off my gloves and disable a screen lock before being able to pause my workout is an annoying PITA."

"one day I only got 3 1/2 hours of sleep and I got a 95 sleep score on Apple lol the Garmin was correct in telling me I got shit sleep."

"Apple gave me kudos for sleeping 3h42m earlier than average last week and the sleep charts show me sleeping from 9:30PM-3:30AM on a day last week when I was traveling in a different timezone and actually went to bed at 12:30AM. ... It's crazy to me that Apple doesn't correctly account for traveling in the sleep monitoring/score."

"my sleep was very fragmented which the Apple Watch didn’t pick up. ... The difference is the garmin should a lot of awakenings which is what I really had. This is the effect of alcohol being metabolized."

"It misses key info and HR was clearly elevated compared to baseline even on the Ultra, but it doesn't count that. So a night of drinking and shit sleep, still give you a 95 score! ... But the vitals aren’t accounted by the sleep score as far as I can tell and my HR was higher though not abnormally high by Apple Watch standard but this could be because of sampling it does compared to the Garmin ... both HR and RR were elevated but not enough for Apple to flag but the sleep score doesn’t include those metrics, which I really think they should. ... The sleep scores doesn’t take into account vitals."

"If you’re healthy and looking to improve your fitness, performance, or recovery, the Apple Watch probably isn’t the best tool. ... limited in terms of true fitness insights."

"I used to have an Apple Watch but got rid of it for accuracy reasons for running marathons. ... Had to buy a Garmin to get accurate km splits and accurate instant pace."

"The battery life is a literal joke. ... Do an activity? There goes 75% of your battery."

"Mine kept dieing one me mid run ... after two years of using it twice hours was about all an aw had battery for when using music and gps! By the 2:15 mark it would be dead. ... When I started running for longer than 2 hrs my battery would die mid run"

"Eventually as I got fitter the AW just didnt have battery for the length of activity (with maps and other metrics always visible)"

*topic on battery apple watch SE has it all except the battery life. got frustrated with it dahil ang dali ma drain kahit hindi ginagamit. makalimutan ko lang i-charge sa gabi after my workout, useless na siya the next day if I need to go, and it charges very slow. I switched to huawei fit (3) and no regrets. battery can go for more than a week without charging. it charges really fast din.

I have the SE 2nd gen and I really like it. It covers all the basics (steps, sleep, heart rate, weather etc.) for a good price. I recommend!

I switched from an apple se2 to a coros nomad and I will never go back. My apple almost died when I was doing a trail race. We have the same concerns, battery life. I only switched because I really wanted the data, I think you probably should think about it. But the aw was a really good daily watch, notifications and all that jazz. But being away from that was pretty good detox too.

Thanks! I’ll be using it solely during workouts and possibly sleep. I’m think the Se2 at a discount is the way to go

After decades of not wearing a watch, my wife wanted a fitness tracker. I talked her into an AW SE because it had fall detection. Garmin did not have yet. We are an Apple family. She loved it, it just worked. As a long time Heart Rate Monitor guy, pre mobile phones, definitely pre smart phones and watches had migrated to Garmin. Very happy. Worked with my iPhone. The Golf app worked with iPhone. But said what is good for the goose is good goose is for the gander, became an AW guy. Both of us on our second AW wife SE2, 9 myself. i can get 2 days. wife gets 3. BTW since we are both old, the fall detection works, was correct decision. There are a slew of choices to extend battery life, main one, turn off Always On. Will still turn on when turn wrist to look at watch face.

Started with Golf Logix on iPhone Then Garmin Golf Watch, terrible product could not hold charge a round. Back to Golf Logix on iPhone Then Garmin VivoActive with Garmin Golf App, very nice Wife got Apple Watch with fall detection, she stuck with it, sold off Garmin, bought Apple Watch with fall detection Hundreds of rounds on Golf Logix, multiple phones and watches 2024 Golf Logix changes User Interface, tried GolfShot, love it! 2025 GolfLogix revises UI, much improved, tried a few rounds, easy distances to layups hazards, no swing analysis. Staying with GolfShot for now. Lost access to hundreds of rounds on Golf Logix Have not used Garmin in over 5 years it was the best experience. The greater Apple ecosystem won out. We are old, my wife falls, I need the alerts.

Like everyone else has said, you don’t need it. But it’s helpful. I bought the cheapest Apple Watch I could find when I started running (an Apple Watch SE 2 that was on sale) and it’s worked great for me. I love using it. My husband has had an Apple Watch for years but he only started finding it really useful for him once he started running. We like the watches because it’s an easy and convenient way to track heart rate and pace, and made it easier to figure out what we need to do to train better. But depending on your budget, there are other ways to do that too.

Just did a long run with my Apple Watch SE2 (82% battery health), tracking with the Runna app. Watch died about 5:30 which was quite annoying as I charged it to full the night before and started the run with 95% battery. I turned on airplane mode at 50%, low power mode was on from the beginning. I was running with my phone so I'm not sure if I could have improved the time other than turning on airplane mode from the beginning

Apple watch SE does not measure blood pressure. However, it does measure heartrate pretty decently. The Apple Watch SE2 and SE3 have the same HR sensor. However, if you do want an Apple Watch SE3, you will need an iPhone 11 or older running iOS 26. If you are just getting it just for the purposes of heartrate, you can just get the GPS version. You can check measurements on your watch directly and I believe it syncs to Apple Health via WiFi or whenever it connects with your phone (not sure on that)

r/AppleWatch • Is the heart rate sensor in the Apple Watch 3 SE better than the heartbeat sensor in the Apple Watch 2 SE? Is GPS alone OK, or is GPS plus cellular better? I currently have an iPhone XR. ->
