"On the Apple Watch you can be listening to Spotify at your desk, phone, livingroom, car, etc and then hit the device button on the watch and select the watch and Spotify Connect will transfer playback to the watch without missing a beat. ... You don't have to fumble around on a tiny touch screen to locate the playlist you were listening to on your phone so you can continue on the watch. You simply transfer playback and go. ... Mid run if you want to listen to something else, you simply ask Siri and it will play what ever you ask for, no presyncing or phone is necessary."

"I unlock my computer and phone with it."

"the fact that they integrate to the Apple Watch simply cannot be understated for me, I couldn’t go back to Garmin now, it is just so much part of my life now. ... Tracking weightlifting workouts, nutrition and other stuff, analysis of the data, send messages to HomePod, changing NC automatically, sending emails …."

"never thought apple would let any 3rd party access the data their devices collect. ... That is a game changer"

"I use it every swim. ... I installed the Swim.com app and it’s great"

"Combined with an app like Athlytic and its sleep / stress scores become much more accurate."

"my AW alerted me to heart irregularities that sent me to the ER and findings of a small heart attack and a secondary artery in my heart with 99% blockage. I am AW for life now."

"I’m one of those people the Apple Watch sent to the doctors 6 years ago and I had heart surgery in August! So it technically saved my life!"

"The later AW is best in class for non chest straps. ... For daily fitness, Apple Watch is just better IMO. ... It being the most accurate heart rate tracker not a chest strap makes it the best fitness tracker to me. ... Maybe I should say it's the best workout recorder because it records the most accurate heart rate data. ... I just really like the AW for every day fitness more so than what Coros or Garmin can provide. ... Executing a training plan I've set out for myself and recording the results. Results being the duration and heart rate data during the planned workouts. I then upload that data to Training Peaks and use Training Peaks to keep up with my training load over time. So the every day fitness part is executing and recording my workouts. ... Apple Watch is data recording. Together they are tracking my fitness."

"It’s also pretty well established that AW has the best motion tracking which shows up when you use the swim feature for distance. ... In swimming, it’s not even close. 100% of garmins worn during our pool swims are incorrect, regardless of swimmer level. ... Every single Garmin incorrectly reported swim distance vs manual counting. Freestyle 4000m in 25m pool."

"even detected kickboard sets, where on a Coros or Garmin those don’t register at all."

"I had an Apple Watch, replaced it with a garmin forerunner for 1 month it was the worst! So inaccurate and when I’d swim in pools it would so often double count my lengths… I went back to Apple Watch"

"The watch definitely helps me. ... It tracks your progress each day (standing hours, exercise minutes, and active calories). ... You configure goals for yourself and the watch will periodically remind you. ... And if you don't make your goal, you have it forever marked against you on the calendar. ... This kind of pushes me to do the bare minimum to close my rings every day I can, lol. ... I definitely exercised more today than I wanted to (and more than I would have if I didn't have the watch) just to get the damn move ring closed. ... It works for me."

"the activity tracker and goals has made a big difference in my weight loss goals."

"they are really useful (lost already 20 kg, tracking my progress with an Apple watch)"

"Yeah the battery life on Apple Watch is pathetic. ... Like I have the 4G Apple watch which I wear when I am out of town just in case my iphone dies or gets broken and I am in an emergency. That happened to me a few months back. I had my watch and only my watch. I had 4G turned on for emergency services and GPS turned on so I can find my way home. Convienent and life saving right? Except the stupid thing died after an hour and after that I was stuck with no communication abilities at all in the middle of the night wandering the streets. What good is having all of those capabilities if they are just going to die on you after 10 minutes? ... other than as an emergency backup for my phone (which I have now proven is a joke in a real life emergency)"

"Also the battery life was trash, I’d leave my new series 10 in the drawer charged and it’d be dead the next day."

"The battery life is a literal joke. ... Do an activity? There goes 75% of your battery."

"If you are in long sleeves in the rain, you need to lock the touchscreen to prevent accidental touches. But that prevents you from using the touchscreen without holding to unlock for a few seconds. So if you are doing intervals, it can be hard to end the interval quickly."

"The biggest issue for me on the AW that stops me going only AW is Sweat. ... The screen becomes impossible to use when I hot and sweaty. I mean completely unresponsive. Can’t press the music controls, can swipe the screen etc."

"I already got sick and tired of touch screens with my Apple Watch ... Dripping sweat, rain and sleeves really screw with touch screens ... where I live we have like 6 months worth of snow so needing to take off my gloves and disable a screen lock before being able to pause my workout is an annoying PITA."

"one day I only got 3 1/2 hours of sleep and I got a 95 sleep score on Apple lol the Garmin was correct in telling me I got shit sleep."

"my sleep was very fragmented which the Apple Watch didn’t pick up. ... The difference is the garmin should a lot of awakenings which is what I really had. This is the effect of alcohol being metabolized."

"Because what's the value of the score if it doesn't correlate to real-world experiences? It's meaningless to get a high score and be told you slept great just because you slept a long time, but it was restless and low quality and you feel like garbage. ... My Oura gives a much more accurate picture of my sleep then Apple Watch unfortunately. ... I'm not sure there's much I can do short of sleeping for 4 hours to get my Apple Watch score to drop below 90."

"notifications from my phone which was such a big distraction."

"I also hated having notifications and apps and stuff on my wrist. ... It was cool at first and then it was annoying and distracting. ... My big motivation away from Apple Watch was this."

"hated feeling like my phone was strapped to me (disabling all notifications did not work!!)"

I can certainly see that point. The Apple Watch is great at health monitoring. And unlike withing it has the capability of sending SOS in its own. Capability wise it is the superior watch, no doubt. But I still say it’s fugly and I would never wear one on a date. Frankly I don’t know why we can’t closer to a middle ground. Where either Apple started actually making their watches look like watches OR Withings can stuff some more tech into their casing like Apple does even if it kills a bit more of battery life.

Battery life was a no brainer for me. My old Apple watch series 4 provided me with all the stuff I need but at its best, it only gave me 2 days of battery. Maybe not even. My garmin FR165 slaps. Lasting 8-10 days in 1 charge.

Used a series 4 for a few years and recently upgraded to an Ultra2. All trackers will generally struggle with a few aspects - underwaters, starts, kick sets. The apple watch is as good as most in these aspects. Beyond that I have absolutely loved my apple watches and thoroughly recommend them for swimming.

I have a Apple Watch series 4…I’m wondering if I should just snag the Series 10 at a cheaper price now since it’s not much difference. The 18hr battery life is fine since I’ll let it charge during my daily showers

Hi! Yes, I swim with my Apple Watch and use it for all my workouts. However, I’m currently considering switching to Garmin for the longer battery life. In general, I’d say Apple Watches are very popular among people who aren’t super serious about training but still work out regularly.

I don’t really get the recommendation not to swim with the Apple Watch either. I used to swim with my old Series 4 for a year or two, before the battery got completely trashed. Now I’ve been swimming with the Series 8 for two years, and it’s been absolutely fine. I am considering switching to a Garmin for better battery life, but I hate the idea of having to give up Apple Music. Not that I need it for swimming (I swim with MP3), but if I ever get back into running, I’d definitely want to run with music on my watch.

I still use my series 4 daily for strength training and cardio tracking. I charge it every day after my workout when I shower.

I can go 2 days without charging and still had 20% left. No workouts or anything but I would have to charge my old s4 daily for sure

I have an Apple Watch 4 and it’s pretty inaccurate (probably my crappy form). Will upgrading to an Ultra2/3 or 11 improve swim accuracy?

It misses laps. A lot of them. It may say I did 475m but I really did like 600m. I can sort of count my laps by looking at the raw data and I see a bunch of laps that took the time of 2 or more so I can average. I’m not looking for perfection. I suspect it’s because I have terrible form/stroke. I’m just wondering if upgrading the watch will get more accuracy before I spend the money. Thanks!

I switched from Apple to garmin three years ago - Apple Watch 4 (iirc) to instinct 2. Basically I had an accident on my bike, smashed the edge of the Apple - didn’t notice and went swimming and scared the shit out of myself by causing a small electric spark to arc out of th swatch in front of my face! The more rugged aspect of the instinct 2 appealed as a result and I am more than happy! However I was also happy with the Apple Watch, so I’d say if you’re not unhappy with the Apple, stay with that.
