"The main thing I miss is the sapphire screen. ... With the Fenix I just wore it no matter what and even though the band was messed up the face was flawless."

"muchisima mas resistencia a arañazos, caidas y golpes"

"I've swam tens of thousands of meters (more like hundreds but..) in pool, open and salt water with my Garmins. ... Done free diving (only to about 40ft, I'm not very good) and press the buttons regularly sub surface. ... I've also done cliff jumping with every watch, and haven't lost a garmin to water intrusion."

"16 days battery life on my fenix. ... The other aspect I really appreciate about my fenix is the battery life. 16 days or so. With everything I have to change these days (laptops, mice, keyboards, headphones, watches, phones), I appreciate not having to worry about it too often."

"I still get 11-12 days of battery use per full charge with my current sensor configuration."

"Battery life is super important to me. I do ultras so having 24+ hours of gps is necessary."

"it has the flashlight, probably the most useful tool I’ve ever had in my life. You’ll use it daily and it’s so helpful in the most random times."

"Flashlight on my Fenix is worth A LOT of money to me. ... Having had it, I could not go back. ... I would happily pay 200 extra for it I use it so much. ... Having a flashlight on your wrist is incredibly handy."

"The red light on the Fenix line is AMAZING. ... I use it every single night multiple times as it makes walking around at night super easy and not at all straining on the eyes. ... Honestly, it might be my "I'm not giving up this watch for e.g. an Apple watch, ever" feature."

"Full watch-based navigation and mapping features—found particularly on the Forerunner 970 and Fenix series—include offline maps, turn-by-turn navigation, and visual guidance. ... For everyday runs on familiar routes, they matter less, but for trail running or hiking where orientation is crucial, they’re invaluable. ... Maps offer extra value for safety, route planning, and are also popular among cyclists and those exploring new routes"

"Download your maps ... Send a gpx file to your watch ... Send an AllTrails gpx file to your watch ... Navigate with a loaded gpx ... Use the TrackBack feature ... Use the Navigate Back to Start feature"

"Trail running so I can load the route onto my garmin and navigate without carrying phone for 50km"

"Garmin Fenix 7 leads in training feedback, power data, and clarity ... One big con for me: OPW3 doesn’t show training loads (low/high aerobic, anaerobic) — which is huge for me. I split my training into HIIT, Zone 2, sprints, and weight lifting based on those metrics. ... The watch doesn't give you training loads, which is basically how I scheduled my workouts. ... It doesn't show any in depth details regarding training stress, recovery time. ... I was missing training loads, acute loads ... I am missing the workout functionalities of my garmin.. Training loads, more insights.."

"Also gives a lot of useful information like stroke rate, distance per stroke, speed, heart rate, etc. Can be good if you're working on paddling technique, endurance, sprint, etc. Can overlay those things together to see things like heart rate vs stroke rate, etc."

"I finally feel like I’m looking at real and varied data. ... AW data feels like the kids’ version, compared to Connect data. ... I could certainly come up with a ton (both for cycling and for running, especially with running dynamics). ... Garmin is just clearly a more serious platform."

"watch is big, heavy etc and few times damaged my wrist also"

"WAY more comfortable to wear because lighter weight"

"I'm very disappointed in my Fenix for gym (and it sounds like the same fault applies to all garmins) because of the logging of reps. ... When I do a workout it will assume I used the weights I specified, but then it seems to either auto-log reps, which is a disaster for things that don't involve hand movements, and require me to correct them, or assume I did zero and require me to enter the whole lot. ... If I'm doing 60 sets I honestly don't have the patience to manually enter the rep number, so I use a phone ap instead. ... The thing that really annoys me though is that it would be so easy for Garmin to make a tiny programing change and start with the assumption that you hit your target."

"strength training profile is bonked"

"For the gym I use [Train] which is kinda like the Garmin strength version but more accurate and you can edit the exercise you did on the fly."

"All were terrible at sleep tracking for me. ... I found Garmin had me getting terrible sleep every night, never catching my actual sleep properly and having me sleep when I was wide awake. ... The nap feature was a total disaster for me, giving me 3-4 naps daily while I was a work at my desk, certainly not sleeping. ... when the sleep data is being used for a great deal of the metrics the data became useless for me."

"Garmin doesn't capture REM sleep accurately ... Hoping they fix soon because their training readiness scores will always be off due to this"

"Garmin is also notorious for giving bad sleep metrics, etc."

"the integration with Spotify in their watches leaves so much to be desired in comparison."

"don't count on any help from solar i have had the fenix and tactix solar and i actually prefer my amoled for length of batt life. ... i have put it in batt saver mode in full lux not on me for 3 hrs and achieved 1%that went down after wearing it . ... this is the only thing that is a disappointment!"

"Try that with my F.Pro 7 and it’ll gain 2% ... I find charging takes so long it’s a much more noticeable interruption"

"then i remembered i wear long sleeves 100% when outside"

As a lot of users will point out, the Apple Watch is a smartwatch, quite a remarkable one, and acts as an extension of the iPhone, while Garmin watches are sports watches. If you really like and rely on your notifications and other smart capabilities of the AW, but also want some fitness and performance tracking, then maybe the Ultra 3 would be the right fit. to answer your questions Was it worth it? - absolutely Which model would you recommend for everyday use + workouts? - Garmin has an extensive lineup of watches for all needs and purposes, even budgets, kinda... I'm having a Fenix 7Pro Sapphire Solar Anything you miss from the Apple Watch? - nothing, I had already disabled notifications on my AW, and I'm definitely not missing the battery life Garmin actually change your life or your habits? - I was already cutting down on alcohol consumption, but after the Garmin sleep scores and overall stress index, I stuck to one or two beers a week, and not after 7 pm. Good luck with your quest, and whatever you choose, I hope it will benefit your needs.

I'm also considering an Enduro 3. Currently using a Fenix 7 Solar Sapphire 47mm and a Series 10 AW. The AW is my daily driver. Mainly use the Fenix for weekly hikes and for backpacking. Fenix serves me well but looking to see what a larger screen will do for my aging vision. A new REI opened near me this morning and plan to go and compare an Enduro 3 to my Fenix as soon as the crowds calm down.

THIS. I bought this watch last August and it’s great. Recently I also added the HRM Pro plus for activities where I can’t wear the watch like martial arts. You will be pleasantly satisfied and it should last you for a few years of support.

Excellent write-up! Although I have the Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar (47mm), this is helpful from a troubleshooting standpoint if I feel something weird is happening with my watch. Since owning this device since early August, I’ve noticed software and battery draining issues that I hope Garmin fixes (just updated to 19.38 this morning). On the other hand, I complete multiple workouts a week with the use of the HRM Pro+, and I average about two weeks of battery life before I have to recharge. I believe with the smart features on, the reported battery life is 18 days. Hopefully, improvements are continued to be made on Garmin’s end so you can enjoy this watch at its fullest possible potential @alycks.

I made the switch from Apple Watch to Garmin (AW7 to Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar) last year because I needed more battery life and didn’t want to charge my watch as often. I still loved the smartwatch experience, though! Here’s a link to help you manage notifications: https://www.lifewire.com/avoid-notification-overload-apple-watch-1999672 When it comes to Garmin watches, I’d suggest the Enduro 3 or Forerunner 970. They’ve got the latest tech, or you could go for the Fenix 7 Pro if you’re on a budget. They’ve got tons of features and long battery life for tracking your activities, and you can still use your iPhone.

I have the Fenix 7 Pro sapphire solar from a year ago, and it’s a great watch. I don’t think that I’m missing out on very much compared to the latest technology in watches. And this is the first Garmin I have ever purchased as well. I would review those sites that compare all of the features so you can figure out why matters to you the most.

I switched from Apple to Fenix 7 Pro SS and have no regrets. I primarily use my watch for fitness tracking, I’m not interested in notifications so I’ve turned all of them off on my Garmin. I also live near the Peak District in the UK and was out hiking last weekend. First time I’ve properly used the GPS for navigation and it worked great. I had originally plotted the route in Komoot then downloaded it onto the watch, all very easy to do. As I don’t have Komoot premium, i needed to open the route within Garmin maps on the watch, no issues at all. Route was spot on and very accurate. Best of all, the battery still had plenty left. By comparison my AW got to the point of barely making it a day and would require a boost charge. The battery on the Fenix Pro SS states 18 days and I’ve found that to be true, but you need to tweak some settings (turning off notifications for 1). Edit: typo

do you like hiking at all? The fenix series as well as the Forerunner 965 IIRC have some pretty awesome integrations with AllTrails...I'm also a huge proponent of buying used on Facebook...it takes some research, but the used market is solid for these devices and a great way to start...I've bought 6 watches(family of 4) only one was new(fenix 7 pro saphire titanium) as it was a great new price during some sort of seasonal sale... :) I couldn't recommend the garmins more over any apple or fitbit devices...tjeu are great watches and battery life measured in days instead of hours is a luxury you will also appreciate....On my fenix 7, I love the flash light...totally unexpected top 3 feature. :)

As with food tracking apps, the "best" is one you use consistently. Wrist-based trackers range from mildly inaccurate to wildly inaccurate as far as calorie burn estimates are concerned; there's no "best" device in terms of accuracy. Most of them are somewhat okay at estimating calories burned during steady state cardio (i.e., walking, running, cycling), but get wonky in a hurry with other activities (i.e., lifting, yoga, Pilates). I've seen some absolutely nonsense numbers from Apple Watch users in particular; but some folks swear by them. I found my old Fitbit was hilariously optimistic with some of its estimates; my Garmins seem to be better. I switched from Fitbit to the Garmin ecosystem several years ago with a Venu Sq. That took me from couch potato to running several times per week; I love the activity badges. I upgraded a few years ago to the Forerunner 265s. I also took up cycling last year (more badges!), also picking up a chest strap HRM, power meter clip less pedals, and a Tacx indoor trainer. I developed an overuse injury from running, so running is no longer an option for me. I can hike, though, and I live in a region with a lot of mountains, so I recently picked up a Fenix 7 Pro (solar sapphire) especially for the hike features, including maps. I'm an active person, now; I don't really think of the stuff I do as "exercise". The Garmin(s) I have go well with the life I live.

I have a Garmin Fenix 7 SS and use it mainly for tracking heart rate during warm up, wod, and cooldown. Sometimes I’ll preprogram the workout in advance but I don’t see the point anymore. I just like the visualization that tracks heart rate and calories. It does have a VO2 max calculator if you use it while running or biking. I preprogrammed a custom CrossFit workout that runs for the whole hour with GPS. The single drawback is that it can be a bit bulky and my wrist straps sometimes tap the buttons. I’ve gotten around just by flipping the watch to the underside of my wrist.

I got it in November with a $500 discount at Best Buy. Just keep track of the sale prices. They are still selling the 7 (I think) so it’s still totally up to date. I don’t even know what the 8 has that the 7 doesn’t.

7 pro ss. About an hour of gps tracking every day on average. Always on MIP screen. 6-7 days with a default watch face.

I had Fenix 7 SS and now FR970. Fenix was good, it looked nice (with straps it can be nice for formal attire) but FR is lighter and not in the way. Perfect for triathlon, what I am doing. I also sleep with the eatch. Maybe the Fenix is more durable in case of gym (if you kick stuff) and mtb (hopefully you do now fall). But for cycling I use hrm with Edge. Much better then riding with watch. In the end it comes to your preference of looks. But also, FR was just released, and Fenix 7 Pro is, I think, on maintenance mode, so more features in the future for FR

Apple Watch charges about 3x faster, so charge it for the 10 mins you take a shower. Garmin is about the same in that regard. They both charge for about 10mins a day to sustain you forever. They’re about equal. The only real advantage would be if you have no access to charger for multiple days, but how often would that be realistically? You charge your phone every day, it’s not that much more of a hassle to charge your watch especially at 5 watts which is crazy fast. And i have a fenix 7pro, but tbh battery isn’t great on it for long activities. 18 holes of golf demolishes my battery. AWU drains way less during long activities from what I’ve seen (I’m only a week in though).
