"The one unexpected benefit is that it tracks my strength workouts far better than my Wahoo Rival, actually counts reps really well."
"definitely my most used feature in my current watch."
"you can customise what shows on your watch! So you can set it to be steps and make that the first thing you see on it! :) ... But so glad it was helpful!"

"The band is pretty thin, doesn't have sticking out bits that catch on stuff, and can easily be cinched down so it won't move around, but even skin tight it's not so tight as to be restrictive."
"the sensor doesn't dig in at all! I had an old Fitbit before (idk what the model was) and the sensor left a big square dent in my arm!"
"she won't even remember she has it on"

"Question, can you check your HR while the timer's running? I can't on mine and it's super annoying."
"Another feature I'd like is a HR alert, an alarm that goes off if your HR is too high. Especially if it's an immediate alert, not only after 10 mins of it being high, as it is in my Vivosmart."
"The Vivomove watches and the Vivosmart 4 and 5 also do not have built in GPS."

"we're getting at the lower end of the spectrum for runners ... enough for the most casual runners that only need to track their runs and little else ... They are enough if you're not training for anything specific."

Still using my Garmin Vivosmart 4, it does everything I need, no subscription. I also use the free visible app.
I have a Vivosmart 4 too and you can customise what shows on your watch! So you can set it to be steps and make that the first thing you see on it! :) In the top right corner of the app on your phone, click on the picture of your watch, then click it again on the next screen. Next, select Appearance. Change “Home Widet” to Steps. You can also go to just “Widgets” there to choose what other things you want to see on your watch screen, and what order you want to see them in :) Hope this might be helpful!
I wouldn’t feel silly about it - I use the app often and it took me ages to find how to do this even knowing it was there. I think the app is really not designed well, not intuitive at all. But so glad it was helpful! I think it’s such a good tracker and love how small and comfortable it is.
My vivosmart 4 is still working fine but looking worse for wear after 6+ years of constant use so I'm keeping my fingers crossed they release a new vivosmart that feels sleek like the 4 instead of chunky, cheap and plasticky like the 5 🤞🏻 Personally it's not the price point I care about. I just want something unobtrusive.
I got a Garmin vivosmart 4 on ebay for around 50 USD. I don't use GPS or sleep tracking, etc...I mainly use it for heat rate tracking and does what I need. Cheap, simple, and fairly effective. Ebay or some reseller will be your best bet as the newer models are the ones being pushed. Like I said, super simple, mainly for heart rate tracking and a few really small simple things...for a decently cheap price.
Actually not all Garmin's have built in GPS which is quite shocking actually, the Lily does not unless you look at the Lily Active 2. The Vivomove watches and the Vivosmart 4 and 5 also do not have built in GPS.
I’d kind of like something to replace my Vivosmart 4 which I wear when I don’t need the bigger watch. The 5 looks a lot wider so something with no display would be ideal!!
If you really only care about HR measurements during you cycling, you could just get an H10 (chest strap) and connect to your phone using beat. Then you don't need a watch and you save a bunch of cash. I live in the US and got 2x H10s from ebay "brand new in box" for something like $70 each maybe 3 years ago. New they're now something like $105 from Polar and I quickly didn't see anything much lower than that on ebay. If you want a watch, sounds like a lower cost one would work fine for you (or maybe no watch and just the H10). The nice thing about Polar is that they tend to not gait too many features by price point (unlike Garmin). So you'd probably be fine with any of the options for watches. Especially if you're going to use the chest strap when you're doing the thing where you care about HR accuracy. Edited to add: If your Garmin still works, I think you should be able to pair the H10 to it. But I use a Polar watch...so I'm not sure. My old Garmin was my first fitness watch. So I went really cheap to see if I liked it (used vivosmart 4). And there was no support for BT devices. But I think many of the mid-to-high tier watches from Garmin should let you pair to an H10. Edit2: If you're in the US, this ebay seller has ["used" H10s for $85.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/227202714507?_skw=polar+H10&itmmeta=01KGNJP05RG0WXZ3E5ZCM1SA5W&hash=item34e6564b8b:g:AMMAAeSwGJZpg1uq&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA4O7PUuNWmJ%2B%2BUShgI9tQz%2FpxmK0NSGk2Z9M%2F4%2FpMYqfWBIccxOwPAX7jFecibO%2Byh4uJXxaW7uO7LsGJOCDfUetrQEbGQs6MpmDVsK4D5V%2FxNsmLxLOJlVtCcK%2F51eR%2FAyg6R6py%2BUTVHdQXX5etePmK5CpfYBrooiapWfYlSkrhtGKWBc%2FlfWxkGpaipl5UJWXDT%2FCZzS39uyFmHsCtrwAFTN3zy6SaQPXH2RhwKFU4rCCTswnkNukYvGfMgwo1Lc3c4f3QKiuMZGF1sPoKqyMmYN%2BE%2F%2BCHl1--ZiuPTjT3%7Ctkp%3ABFBMjITYsoVn) If the image is true to what you'd get, they don't really look very used.
Yes! My device, Garmin Vivosmart 4, consistently reported that my VO2max was in the gutter, my body battery was always low, and that I was at risk. This was upsetting after 45 years of weightlifting and training, especially since it was accurate for a couple of years prior. The device was nearly the size of my now Inspire 3, and it may have been the sensors that started to fade off, or whatever happened. Becoming inconsistent was the concern. I prefer a complete failure over inconsistent behavior. At times, the device reported expected numbers, and at times, it was completely off... What to believe? I decided to give Fitbit a chance. I wore both devices on both wrists for three weeks (24/7). The Fitbit was reporting more accurately than the Garmin. That was the time to say goodbye to Garmin. No two are alike, and your miles may vary, but at least get something consistent.
I use a Garmin Vivosmart 4 with my analogue watches. You can buy the current Vivosmart 5 or even the Vivofit 4.
Venu 2 daily and a Vivosmart 4 to wear with analogue watches!
Hi everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my watch, at least a bit, to pace more effectively. I currently have a Garmin Vivosmart 4, which has been very good, but it's biggest drawback is it doesn't display steps, and I'm thinking I'm at a point where keeping a limit on my steps should help quite a bit. Ideally I'd like one that displays HR and steps on the homescreen along with the time, but it's not necessary, especially if I can get something on the cheaper end of things (ie not $400+! -- yikes) Also a must is that it has a built in timer, as that is definitely my most used feature in my current watch. Another feature I'd like is a HR alert, an alarm that goes off if your HR is too high. Especially if it's an immediate alert, not only after 10 mins of it being high, as it is in my Vivosmart. Anyway, I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations, and what feature you find most useful for pacing!
