"After a month of Oura grading me every morning, I started taking sleep seriously. ... Two years later, I've gone from 5 hours to 7-7.5. ... Life changing stuff. ... My RHR is down 25%, HRV is up. ... Oura's daily score keeps me honest."
"It’s really the whole scoring system I pay attention to. Not just sleep. I use it to adjust habits. ... - I’ve reduced drinking to only a few times a month. ... - I have added magnesium before bed for deeper sleep ... - I move rest days around if I need to if readiness is low ... - I add in extra cardio if the activity goal suggest more movement"
"The sleep tracking is awesome. ... I had some concerns that I had sleep apnea due to a family history, and this allowed me to see metrics that put my mind at ease. ... I love checking out the sleep data each morning!"

"Oura also fucked people over even worse, which is one reason I went with the Whoop - Oura was "pay for the hardware, the app is free" and then moved to paid hardware and a paid subscription and bricked the devices of everyone who didn't want to pay for a subscription."
"The fact that there’s a subscription to utilize many aspects really turns me off. ... If I didn’t have it paid for through my HSA I wouldn’t have it at all."
"I tested Oura and returned it for this reason."

"it is a terrible idea to wear an Oura ring while lifting anything. Degloving is a thing."
"I can't wear it while lifting."
"Oura useless for sport. ... Oura basically zoned out for the full race. ... except Oura that was again useless. ... Oura Ring 4 confirmed what most of us already know: great for sleep and recovery, not for sport."

"I contacted the AI bot chat immediately after it happened. I sent the pics and information. The chat said the ring had a known defect and I would be sent a replacement. 2 weeks go by, and I chat again for shipping updates. And that original chat is somehow lost. Now they made me jump through a lot of hoops and they are sending me a refurbished ring, possibly a Gen 3 or older, only after I asked for my membership to be refunded."
"support has been a nightmare as well. ... No response."
"Had to fight to get my warranty replacement because I wasn't there original owner"
I also wear the Oura ring (gen 4, on right ring finger). Mine seems fine, I don’t bring my phone on the bench though so it’s all in device tracked and I know that can cause some gaps in tracking but it seems to get everything pretty well
it’s literally so bad, when i’m doing HIIT workouts/completely out of breath/can’t speak it always says I either spent a majority of the time in zone zero (which is supposedly “at rest or moving very slowly”!!) or it “fails to detect HR data” even though i click record workout. and i have gen 4! i put in a support request a few times and they are supposed to send a free replacement but i feel like it’s just an inherent issue
Got fed up with waking up tired and not knowing why, so I went full psycho and wore/used multiple trackers at once to see which ones actually match up. TL;DR at bottom. **The setup:** \- Oura Ring 4 \- Samsung Galaxy Ring \- Fitbit Charge 6 \- Garmin Venu 3 \- Withings mat under my mattress \- Cheap Amazfit as control **What I found:** Oura was consistently the most accurate for sleep stages. Like, within 5-10 min of when I actually remember falling asleep/waking up. The HRV data correlates scary well with how I actually feel. BUT and this is the kicker—the Fitbit Charge 6 at $179 was maybe 85-90% as accurate as the $399 Oura. For most people that's probably good enough. Samsung Galaxy Ring surprised me. No subscription, solid accuracy, but you NEED a Samsung phone or it's basically useless. The Withings mat was weird. Some nights dead accurate, other nights it logged me as asleep when I was literally reading in bed. Partner movement throws it off. **Biggest surprise:** The cheap Amazfit ($89) wasn't terrible?? Sleep duration was accurate, stages were hit or miss. If you just want basic data it works. **What actually improved my sleep:** Honestly tracking alone did nothing. What helped was: \- Seeing my HRV tank after drinking (even 1-2 beers) \- Realizing my "good" sleep nights correlated with room temp under 68°F \- Noticing deep sleep crashed when I ate late **TL;DR:** \- Got money? Oura Ring 4 \- Budget king? Fitbit Charge 6 \- Hate wearing stuff? Withings mat (if you sleep alone) \- Samsung user? Galaxy Ring is solid \- Broke? Amazfit Balance does the basics Happy to answer questions. Been down this rabbit hole way too deep. wrote up a longer comparison with prices and specs if anyone wants it: [https://sleepupgradehub.com/the-best-sleep-trackers-of-2025-reddit-s-top-picks-373007](https://sleepupgradehub.com/the-best-sleep-trackers-of-2025-reddit-s-top-picks-373007)
Oura has helpt me making better choices. I’m much more aware of how my actions impact my sleep, which again impact my wellbeing, mood and so on. I notice a difference in which suppliments that work for me. Personally I do wear it to the gym, but take it off when needed. If you where more about cardio than gym, a smart watch would probably been a better choice. For that everyday and sleep stat Oura is great. I also enjoy the look of it compared to smart watches, which I find much more useable. I don’t expect gen 5 to be around the corner, if it were why make ceramic in gen 4? But it is old enough to get on sale.
Ive had the oura ring 4 for about 3 months now. Its absolute crap. I upgraded from the oura 3 and regretting it every day. My sleep data is has significant gaps nightly. Trying to get oura to take me seriously is an exercise in futility. My scores have tanked for things like - the no hr/hrv data being read after midnight so it looks like my heart rate never dropped (which it usually does much later in the night) so it tells me my body hasn’t rested all bc it failed to read my heart rate when it was low. I sold my oura 3, so i can’t just switch back. Its infuriatinggggg. Gahhhh
I do too! I'm shopping for a new non-Oura product now that my Oura ring 4 has conked out, and what I'm finding are a lot of reviews about a products sleep tracking, exercise tracking, but absolutely NOTHING on its menstrual insights. Probably doesn't help that most reviewers are men, and the rest are just doing "3 days with the Oura ring!" when it needs longer than that to even begin tracking your cycle. I didn't buy it for the menstrual cycle function, but it has become by far its best feature to me. Sleep's good too.
I bought it for the sleep (it's one of the best out there) but now that I'm shopping for a new wearable the most important function is actually the menstrual phase tracking. (2nd time the Oura Ring 4 has needed a warranty repair/replace within 1 year and they've refused, won't buy another). It tracks your body temperature, keeps track of your period phases, you can see each day how your temperature fluctuates with the cycle stage. It's been really good.
The whoop subscription is so expensive, that was what sold me on the Oura. I’ve had my Oura 4 for eight months and love it so much.
I wear both my Garmin Fenix 7S and Oura 4 24/7, but I only track runs with the Garmin and only care about the sleep/cycle/wellness metrics from my Oura. They each serve their purpose, and I like having both of them.
Bth, you really shouldn’t trust any of them. I recently had a polysomnogram sleep study (PSG) at a clinic so I could get a current diagnosis for OSA and get a CPAP. Worn an Oura Ring 4 and AW ultra 2. Since I had about 50 wires all over me for the PSG, that will be the standard and the most accurate. The Oura ring was so different in all stages that I never wore it again after the test. The Apple Watch was a bit different in stage lengths but they were in the right places. Oura had deep sleep only in the second half of my night, this was not correct. If you think you have sleep issues, get a PSG done. If not, don’t give yourself anxiety self diagnosing with wearables. They are not medical devices they just use algorithms to guess and estimate what is going on.
Edit to add that I have the gen 4. I’ve never had any other version. It is okay. Not great, not bad. I’ve had mine since December. I also have an Apple Watch so I use both. Pros: I do like the sleep information. I feel like it tracks my sleep better than my Apple watch. The battery life is impressive. I usually charge mine when I shower, but I went on a week long cruise a few weeks ago and I didn’t bring my charger. It didn’t die. I do think the data overall is good - I like seeing the trends and seeing how my day to day activity affects my health. I’ve learned a lot about my habits (I’m very data-driven). Similarly, the cycle tracking is really nice. We are TTC and having data to help us with that is also helpful. Even if I wasn’t trying to get pregnant, I would appreciate cycle details. Cons- The wear and tear on my gold ring is pretty significant. I know it’s a wearable tech piece and not actual jewelry, but mine is pretty dinged up for only a few months’ use. I do wear it on my right hand (middle finger) but it looked really silly on my left with my wedding ring and I already have small hands so two rings like that on one hand was not a good look overall. The gold color overall is very yellow. It has faded but is still not really close to my actual gold rings, and I don’t love that. Obviously if you don’t choose gold this won’t affect you. The activity monitoring/step counter is garbage. I just don’t use it and instead import my data from my watch. The fact that there’s a subscription to utilize many aspects really turns me off. If I didn’t have it paid for through my HSA I wouldn’t have it at all. Other notes: I don’t really understand the tagging system or utilize it fully so I may be missing value there. I feel like it’s pretty bulky for my hand, but I understand that tech has to fit somewhere. It took me a bit to get used to it on my hand, and sometimes when I drive and there’s more pressure on it, it can bother me. I don’t know how much stock I put into the “my health” area - things like sleep chronotype resilience - but it is still neat to see. Overall I give the ring 7/10. It has features I like, but if I had to stop wearing it for whatever reason not much would really change. I do like having more data, but the things I actively seek in wearable tech is more related to activity tracking. For the price I do think the quality is not great. If you have any specific questions I’m happy to try to help!
I went with an Oura 4 ring. Looks decent and still can wear whatever watch.
