"I wore my galaxy watch for 3 years climbing with no protection on it and while it got some scratches, it never really got anything on the screen and nothing cracked, it's a pretty durable piece of hardware. ... it was a pretty solid piece of tech in terms of durability."

"Don't get Samsung Galaxy watch if you want to connect with H365. ... The step sync with H365 is always less by atleast ~1000 steps. ... Doesn't sync sleep hrs and MVPA at all. ... I'm losing the points because of this. ... I tried to change some settings from online reviews and also tried reconnecting with app/watch etc. Still same. ... Checked with both Samsung and H365 customer service. Both useless and don't have a solution for this. Both sides blaming the other for this issue. ... I can't return the watch because the 14 day return period is over. I don't like it but still using because no choice. ... My previous apple watch and Garmin was great. Everything sync perfectly."
I wouldn’t expect a major breakthrough in this matter in few years. We need better battery technology for that. Amazfit and Huawei have simpler OS and CPUs, so energy consumption is much lower. I’ve never owned an Apple Watch, but I had Galaxy Watch 5 and I needed to charge it every day too, but I think it’s not a big problem. Just put it on a charger once day when you don’t need a watch on your wrist. It’s not just a problem of Apple Watch. Watches with Android (WearOS) have similar battery life.
I have tried Fossil. Skagen, Galaxy 4 and 6, Ticwatches, Oneplus, Amazfit watches. The ticwatches I tried had terrible vibration. I recently was surprised and found the galaxy 5 and the Galaxy 5 pro watches and they both have great vibrations. The 5 pro is thicker and its vibration is the best I have felt in years. Reminds me of the Pebble time and time steel which had a similar vibration. I would also like to point out the Galaxy watch 5 is 44 and the 5 Pro 45mm. The 40mm usually have less vibration strength.
You mention you want to use your watch for hiking I believe you are better with the Galaxy watch. The step count on the galaxy watches is right on the step count on the Oneplus watches is off. I have read this for the Oneplus 2, I experienced it on my Oneplus 2R and the Oneplus 3 has the same processors so I would be concerned. The galaxy watches get the updates the Ticwatches do not. My galaxy watches already have wear 5.0. The other problem with the Oneplus watch is the sleep monitoring. If you take a nap it will link in with your sleep score and you can not remove it. The galaxy watches have a much better sleep monitoring and if you take a nap it is registered separately so you can remove it or keep it. The stress monitoring on the Oneplus watch simply does not work. Galaxy watches win here again. If vibration strength is important to you the Galaxy 5 and 5 pro have the strongest vibration. I could go on and on.
I come from a Samsung heath app using a galaxy watch and the sleep tracking is the most accurate with the fitbit app on a Pixel 3. Much better than Sleep as Android and every sleep app I have tried. Also the step sensitivity is adjustable on the fitbit app using my Pixel 3 watch which you do not see on many watch apps.
A used Samsung galaxy 5 watch. Does the job.
I still have the GW 5 and it's been incredibly laggy and slow the past year. I've only had it for about 2 years now and I'm not the type to jump to the newest thing immidiately. I'd feel bad replacing it so soon. But if I were, would the 8 classic be a good choice? Or should I look at the 7 instead?
jo bhi lena inbuilt gps ho toh hi lena. Like galaxy watch 4, 5. amazfit bip. etc
Thirding the Fit 3. I have a Galaxy watch 5 as well but I got so sick of charging it every day. The battery on the Fit 3 lasts so long! I think I last charged it 2 weeks ago and use it everyday to track my stats.
I have a galaxy watch 5 and I gave it to my husband because the fit3's battery is like a week and I don't need any of the features lol
Apple Watch is good because you can do other things not just fitness related. I have se 3. But my god the battery dies so quick. Everyday I have to charge it. Sucks. Have to purchase multiple chargers soon, one for home and one for work. Prior I used a Samsung galaxy fit. Battery lasted days. Small slim profile watch which was nice and not delicate like the Apple Watch. But I have an iPhone and did not put time into experiencing if it can connect to other fitness apps. I had a Samsung before this phone so I had a Samsung galaxy watch 5. It was a good watch that tracked my fitness activity similar to apples watch where I could also do more than fitness related things. It was very nice and I really liked the round screen. Overall I think it comes down to what your fitness needs are and the mobile device you have.
I switched from a Galaxy Watch 5 to a Garmin Forerunner 965 and I'm many times more happy with the Garmin. But I care much more about the sports aspect of the watch and from the smartwatch aspect I didn't use much more than notifications, which garmin can do just as fine. But if you use the smartwatch features a lot I'm not sure if you'll be happy.
On Venu 3, once you go i to the proper settings in the app on your phone, you get to decide which apps you want to get notifications from. Texting back from the watch is easy, it's a qwerty keyboard, however, if you're on iPhone, you won't be able to because of Apple's proprietary crap: You'll have to connect SIRI as your phone assistant and then ask SIRI to text for you. However if you're on Android, no problem, you can just answer a text as they come, the same applies to calls. I used to have the GW5, I don't miss it at all. While it's true that the Venu 3 is not as connected as the GW5, it's connected enough: I get the notifications I want, texts and calls, (I'm still using a Samsung phone) the sports and wellness metrics may not be as plentiful as a Fenix or a Forerunner watch but it's plenty to keep me informed about how I'm doing and motivated to keep going. However with my lifestyle (retired athlete, recovering from several repair surgeries) I tend to use my Fenix or my Forerunner for daily training and switch to my Venu 3 when I'm in rest periods, not working out daily, or sick/injured. Battery life on Venu 3 is a solid 2 weeks as long as I don't turn on Always On Display, which is fine with me because I find AOD annoying anyway. The display is Amoled, easy to read and the touchscreen is responsive, I haven't had any issues with that. For me the difference between the GW5 and the Venu 3 is like going from a playground jungle gym to a fitness retreat: i get the necessary metrics without the "noise" and the power never goes out.
Oh yeah, no problem there. I had the regular GW5 (just noticed you meant the Pro version, I need coffee lol) I'm not sure what added features the Pro version has but for the battery life alone, it's worth it. I absolutely love the UI on the Venu 3. It's a sweet watch, like I said, it has the essential features minus the "playground noise".
