From your examples it seems like you don't want to use noise-cancelling headphones? Newest airpods work great from what I've heard (though I dunno if you'll run out of battery during the workday). Personally I don't enjoy noise-cancelling. I don't work in an open plan office, but I really like my AKGs because they have a firm over-ear cup (unlike MDRs, which just sort of hang out on your ear). [AKG Pro Audio K271 MKII](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MOC28) I've found them pretty isolating but they're not going to compare to noise-canceling. They can get a bit hot and at first they were a bit too firm, but that is also what makes them good. When the sounds of NYC outside my window get to be too much, I put these on.

It all comes down to personal preference, for me the Son MDR7506 was one of the worst headphones I have ever tried, sounded like shyte and was terribly uncomfortable. Personally I use AKG k271 mkii for location work and sometimes the Sennheiser HD25 when Im doing the occasional bag work. A good advice for OP, choose one you like, watch a lot a movies on, listen to songs you know and like and when you start working on it stick to it and don't switch headphones later down the line.
