r/boseBose Quiet Comfort Ultra Headphones Gen 1 vs Gen 2 quick take
4 months ago

I got the 1st gen regular QC from Costco for $160 ! And I also ordered the new QC Gen 2 ultra. Went from the basics to the best ! The question is, is it really worth the extra $300 for the QC Ultra Gen 2 ?? Why? It's Predict the Bitcoin price?? It's just a headphone ..

Sold my QC1s for about $255 and technically got my new QC2s at only $145. Does that get any better?

Hi. I just have the original quiet comforts, which are my all time favorites. I’ve not tried the subsequent models so I can’t say if they are worth the extra money but probably.

Bose quiet comfort are my all time favorite, but I wouldn’t want to workout with anything sitting on my head. You don’t want to hear this, but have you tried Airpod Pros? They are decent sound quality. I would never use the original for workouts.

The gen 1s on Bose's website has them at $379 so they're on sale but I feel like I got a better discount on mine. I love the lunar blue ones I have but if I didn't have headphones, those violet ones would be mine so fast.

If I didn't have the gen 1 in Lunar Blue, I would grab those violet ones so fast. But there's not enough of an improvement to warrant getting a new pair. Especially when I just bought a pair of the Ultra earbuds (I got them on eBay for $180 and somehow they had a warranty). I love the color though.

I've had almost every Generation of Bose over the ear, noise cancelling headphones since my dad received a pair of QC1's to Beta test in 1998. QC1's QC15's QC35's NC700's QC45's QC2023's and now the Plums. I just recently bought myself the QC Ultra's in Plum and they are fantastic. 10/10. I absolutely love the volume slider. They seem to connect so much more seamlessly than previous generations. Sound quality in all modes is brilliant. I love the auto pause feature being brought back. Battery life is incredible. And the color... 😚👌They got me there. Utter perfection. Did I need a new pair? Absolutely not. Honestly, they are near perfect. The only annoyance being when they die, you can't use them while they are charging. But that is such small potatoes... https://preview.redd.it/t0v9axk4falg1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0eaad517742c90d4a91ad66c4f62334eb3bd2807

I use the gen 1 for weightlifting and cardio, have for years with no big issues. Only tip is to wipe the ear piece down after working out and let them air dry, because if you put them straight into the case they eventually get stinky. I've replaced the ear pads 3 times because of this and have only just started letting them air out

They're expensive, but the in-ear Bose QuietComfort headphones are great. I've had the wired ones for a few years now, and I take them everywhere with me. I believe they've been replaced by wireless Bluetooth ones in their product line now.

I have a very old wired QC and the newest version of Bluetooth QC...yeah the new one is better, but it's like a decade apart in technology. So to me it's not mind blowing. I will say bass is where the new one is much better. Sound quality was improved a lot more than ANC. But I don't have the Ultra and I'm so curious about that sound immersion.

The noise cancellation with the immersion mode is in a different ball game. I still have my old QC and the noise cancellation that I used to think was awesome now feels like a cheap headphone.

I have APMs and not even the highest Bose, but Bose QC (Not the most recent). I haven’t done a ton of testing but I think it is plain the APM’s sound better. I don’t care - I use the APM’s only when sitting stationary and watching TV under circumstances where the house needs to be quiet. They routinely disconnect if I make the mistake of brushing my head against the sofa. Sometimes the crown works for volume; sometimes it doesn’t. It doesn’t matter how good they sound when they work if they basically don’t work. I brought them to the Genius Bar, they sent it out for “repair”, it bounced back immediately stating they could find nothing wrong. This is just how it works. I traveled with the APM’s once. They are heavy and big and I had to carabiner them to the outside of my carryon to fit anything else in it. In the small airplane seat, they disconnected every few minutes. A pillow touching them - oops! Then I got the Bose. They are super light. They fold up into a small nearly flat case. They never ever disconnect. I think we have a winner.
