Yo, I just went through this process. Unfortunately, all the wireless gaming headphones are lack luster in some way. Maxwell was the closest to what I wanted but went through two broken pairs so there's quality issues with the current versions and they're heavy. Corsair Virtuoso XT are great for FPS shooters and with an EQ actually have decent sound for media consumption but they get blown out of the water by professional headphones, and the battery is really bad and have to charge 1-2 times a day, mic imo is decent. Astro A50x is good with everything but sound. In FPS games I was missing so much detail compared to other headphones with them. I bought myself a Fiio BTR17 portable amp and now settled with Sennheiser HD 490 pro with a 4.4mm balanced cable. The portable amp makes the wired headphones into a wireless setup. I keep the amp in my pocket with the wire down my side, but Im thinking of even other methods like attaching the amp to the side of the headphone and using a very short cable. I added a Tonor microphone: [https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DG2RSR77](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DG2RSR77) attached to the side of the headphones which has great sound quality. Also got a bluetooth USB that makes the wireless range ridiculously good. I like this set up because it's the best sound and microphone quality while keeping it wireless. I should throw in that the HD 490s are insanely comfortable and light headphones. People praise them for the comfort and I absolutely agree, you sometimes forget you're even wearing them because they fit like a glove. You can't even compare the sound quality of gaming headphones (apart from Maxwells) to professional headphones like the 490s. I can hear details, subtelties and separate sounds with them that you can't with most gaming headphones. Only draw back is having to charge the microphone and amp separately, and having to turn bluetooth on/off in windows settings at launch so it pairs with my amp (but could probably fix that with a script that launches when windows starts). I tried the MMX 330 pro before the HD 490 and that is very good if you don't mind wired.

If one of the uses is gaming, don't go with non-gaming ones because you will have issues most likely. For example: I had Sony XM5 but when used wired mic doesn't work and they can't be used wired while charging without static noise.  You need wired or headphones with dongle for low latency / no lag. Recommendations are: Audize Maxwell Steelseries Arctis PRO Sony Inzone H9 II (2) Each has its pros and cons. In the end I bought Inzone H9 II cause I'm used to super light headphones from Sony, for example Audize ones are double the weight.

I love my Momentum 4's 2 years and a few months of daily use, travelling on trains etc. I use them in the office for Teams calls as well. I use Audeze Maxwell 1s at home.

I like them a lot more than the Maxwell, that's for sure. Both have good bass but HDB sounds quite a bit more natural and the treble is in another tier.q But the Maxwell weight and comfort is so bad that it likely negatively affects my perception of their sound quality tbf

Plus Audeze Maxwell, Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 SE, Dali I0-12, Mark Levinson No 5909 and I could keep going.

You can't keep going back to your old headphones. Listen to your new headphones exclusively for a week and then go back. That will give you the true comparison. If after a week you're not enjoying them, then they're just not for you. Then you return them and try something else. This can have the opposite effect too funnily enough. I had the FiiO FT1 and thought they sounded good. Gave them their week and then went back and tried my old Audeze Maxwell. My Maxwell sounded so much better and now my FT1 sounded garbage. But either way. Give it a week of just your new headphones.

r/HeadphoneAdviceAre audiophile headphones just for listening and producing music?

First of all, let me preface this by saying I'm not personally a fan of Beyer headphones and think they're vastly overrated. But just to help you in the future, when you're coming low quality consumer grade headphones like the Steelseries and you try something closer to audiophile grade, it's not unusual to not hear a difference. This is due to brain burn. Your brain is tuned to that consumer sound so when you hear audio in its trueform, it'll sound underwhelming. I know because I also went through this when I went from Sony XM5 to Hifiman Edition XS. The quality difference between them is VAST but I was like meh at first. The tip is to listen to your new headphones exclusively for a week or two. Don't touch any other audio equipment. Only your new headphones. Even if they sound ass, keep listening. After a week or two (keep your refund window in mind for this too) then go back to your old headphones and you'll now get a true comparison. I'm not saying everything will be better. This can also have the opposite effect. I got the FiiO FT1, thought they sounded good initially, gave them a week of exclusive listening, went back to my Audeze Maxwell and was stunned at how much better my Maxwell sounded and how muddy and garbage tbf FT1 now sounded so I sent them back to Amazon. But either way, that's the best way to really compare. If you still don't like the new headphones after that, then it's a preference thing. Return them and try something else. Like I said, I'd probably personally prefer Steelseries over Beyers, despite Steelseries making garbage, because that's how much I dislike the Beyer sound. But I guarantee there's something out there, within your budget, which embarrass anything from Steelseries.

Audeze Maxwell It does come with a mic but it's detachable. I left mine in the box.

I love the Maxwell but if you go jogging in them you'll fall over 😅

They're a "kinda okay for their price" headphone. I personally refunded mine because after exclusively using them for a week, I went back to the Audeze Maxwell for a comparison and then Audeze planars absolutely embarrassed the FT1. The FiiO's sounded so muddy and garbage in comparison. Also, The FT1 is the cheapest, nastiest feeling headphone I've touched since I briefly owned (and returned) the Edition XS. My £25 Ugreen HiTune Max5c which I bought just to try have a vastly better build quality than the FiiO FT1

r/HeadphoneAdviceWhat’s the best wireless gaming headset in 2025? Need a solid upgrade!!

Hey... so I’ve been using the Audeze Maxwell for a while now and honestly, it’s pretty solid. The latency is super low and feels just like wired. Battery life is good as well. Sound is clean and detailed, really nice for both gaming and music. The mic isn't great and sounds a bit boxed in, but it works fine for casual chat. The stock ear pads are tight so I swapped them for thicker ones. Sidetone and noise isolation could use some improvement but it’s nothing too serious. Overall, not "THE" perfect but a strong wireless headset with great audio and real controls.

Totally get where you’re coming from: the mic is definitely just average and not great for the price, but I can live with it since the sound quality is good and I haven’t run into major software issues myself.

r/NoStupidQuestionsIn 2025, are there still no wireless headphones that can beat wired ones?

Wireless has gotten really good for watching, look for sets that use a 2.4 GHz USB dongle to keep lip-sync tight. On a PC, Audeze Maxwell or Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed are easy wins. If you want max fidelity and zero fuss, a wired pair like Sennheiser HD560S with a tiny USB-C DAC is tough to beat.

Stay away from the Maxwell.. they are to heavy for gaming session and mine just stopped working after a year and a month. No more warranty. €400,- down the drain
