"the 3LCD technology is completely free of the rainbow effect (as it turned out, I'm super sensitive to RBE: I got a headache after watching a show on the Hisense C1...)"
"I say JVC (as an ls12000 owner!) you will get better black levels - if that’s important to you. ... What I would ask is are black levels really important to you? Whilst the Epson is very good it’s not as good as JVC. ... If it helps, I’m very happy with my Epson after a few tweaks. But I wish the black floor was lower - purely personal concern having owned JVC."
"The 500 is great for dedicated home theater. ... Amazing projector though. The picture quality is top notch."

"I’m just projecting it in a sunny room on a white wall and it’s blowing my mind."
"I really love 3D, and the Pro2 does far better with 3D due to its brightness. 3D requires more light because shutter glasses AND the "split" of doing both eyes from the same projector effectively cuts your light in half. This is why people complain that 3D is dark."
"I m impressed by the color mapping, brightness ,contrast and sharpness, its super sharp even if its currently keystoned to hell while i m waiting for some brackets."

"The auto focus and screen correction is also awesome for flexibility."

"I was genuinely baffled in not just music but in games as well with my 7hz timeless iems, never going back"
"cannot game with them in the same way because of unique tuning ... will use the MEST almost for everything other than games"
"IEMs like B2 Dusk, Timeless and Performer 5 if I remember correctly were rather bad for gaming compared to Zero Red, Vivace or EM6L which are perfectly good. ... Looping the same gaming recordings with the first ones I struggle hearing directions that already know in advance while with the others it's obvious."

"replacing a Benq W2700 with a big bright stuck pixel in the centre of the screen. ... This has me suddenly obsessed with type of DMD chip, as the W2700 had a TI 0.47 DMD and they're more susceptible to stuck pixels than larger ones."

"The XGimi Horizon is a nice model, but isn't super bright and will need a dark room to operate the best. ... With ambient light, you will have a very low contrast ratio."
"I think I am mostly missing some contrast (the blacks and greys are pretty bad)"

"there is no native netflix (except for a desktop /browser version) we use apple tv for that"
"add - I also wanted to add to my post is that no Netflix support and probally no point in trying and it you looking for that it may be worth it to get thr mogo 3 or 4 pro as it has that support. I dont care for it as I have a PS5 and I donr rely on the android 11 os tv to do my entertainment I just wanted something basic with YouTube it has it so that'd fine. But a big con not for me but for others is lack of Amazon"
"the other possible inconvinience would be netflix app not available"
First of all, this is the best opening line I've read in this channel. Matt Foley would be proud. Highly recommend the XGIMI (say, horizon pro) over benq IMHO. I'm a bit of a fanboy for XGIMI but it delivers and checks every box I need. 1. Great picture. 2. Great built in sound. 3. Interface that doesn't feel like if I move the projector a hair, I just lost 2 hours of my life repositioning it. 4. Google TV built in + 2 HDMI ports for my PS5, Apple, TV, or Xbox, switch, etc. 5. Intuitive remote 6. UX that doesn't require me to be ALL IN on one platform and just makes it easy to nav around my apps and tools or inputs.
XGIMI horizon pro works awesome in daylight. Here's a quick video from today in my bright office: [https://drive.google.com/file/d/19-VJNuk95h1HEz2Z9rzGQITmGmd0syXY/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/19-VJNuk95h1HEz2Z9rzGQITmGmd0syXY/view?usp=sharing)
It's a great piece of tech. I own both the S Max and the older Horizon model. Since it isn't very big, you might need to move to another location for a day, so having good speakers also pays off. I think it's a solid choice.
Okay - here is the third option you didnt ask for. But i JUST got the xgimi horizon s pro, and im blown away by the quality of this projector. It falls into your budget, it was just on a mothers day sale, so expect it to probably go a bit down in price again soon. Cannoy recommend it enough
Xgimi Horizon Pro or Ultra I play solo games and haven't noticed any problems.
I am not here to say i know anything about the nitty gritty tech elements, but i will say that once upon a time i was probably an epson guy, I even pushed my dad that direction and then he had big complaints about connecting his soundbar that used one of those hdmi passthrough situations, because then it presents a wiring dilemma when the input for the picture is across the room from your sound. I got a cheaper xgimi horizon pro, it looks great and supports bluetooth, airplay, and otherwise a bunch of wireless sound options. So my sound is great with no wiring issues. I even think its good for gaming. time will tell on the longevity, out of the box the keystone feature was spot on, a few weeks later i sometimes have to manually tweak it.
"RS20 ultra max" feels like thrice the projector of "Horizon pro". I liked the Horizon as long as it worked it was decent with some ambient lighting and very good in dark room. I was using only the built in speakers as it was kept in Bedroom. Projector was quiet and auto adjustments worked pretty well. Since I placed projector mostly stationery I turned off auto keystone and focus after sometime of usage as it doesn't make it to keep it on if not moving. I was projecting about 100 inch on white wall, with one window covered in about 70% dark curtain. Still it was fine on bright day. Now coming to bad parts : HDMI CEC was working only one way. ie I can control the device connected to projector using projector remote but not the projector using the device remote. I used fire tv stick for all my streaming purpose, so not being able to switch on and off, volume control from firetv stick was irritating. (Hopefully this is fixed in their newer projectors) There was no certified Netflix. Hence I had to use Firetv stick. Color calibration options was limited unlike other brands like Epson and Benq. Android was stuck on old version, there was no firmware update/os updates throughout the period I used the projector. Out of warranty support was unavailable for me due to being purchased from another country for me but that you have to worry only in special cases like mine. Also the spare parts might be really hard to come by in outside market. Design of the cooling system does not allow you to easily clean the projector and it does not come with dust filter. When I opened the projector trying to fix things I found it to be really dusty. So over years chances of fan failure/overheating is imminent if not kept in clean room and regularly vacuumed as they mentioned in their manual.
The Horizon S Pro isn’t a bad projector at all, gorgeous and vibrant image quality. I do find it more tricky to line the screen up, and the stand that XGIMI makes for it, is one of the worst quality pieces of high priced equipment that I’ve ever had. Compared to the C2’s Vidaa OS, the Xgimi’s Android TV is horrid it response. I knew it was sluggish and clunky feeling, but I didn’t know how bad it was until I got the C2. It’s doable, just extremely clunky. And having a non backlit remote trying to clunk through the menu’s during the night is a headache until you get use to it. I also have the Halo+ New, and even with that one running Google tv, it’s just something with these XGIMI projectors that just makes using the software part a clunky experience. Image quality wise they are excellent, even on the Halo+. That’s if you can get them lined up properly, and get past the clunky Os. Sound quality is decent for the price range that it’s in, some movies can sound muffled out more than others, but you can adjust it a bit. I ended up using a Bluetooth soundbar, the S Pro does have a sync feature to help combat the sound delay, but I feel it moves the adjustment in the wrong direction. I ended up hooking up an Apple TV to the projector and used Apples sync as it’s much better if you want to use an external speaker. The only other gripe is the lack of ports, I wish it had just one more HDMI, and a 3.5mm jack bare minimum extra. But that’s about it and it all drove my curiosity towards the C2 Ultra eventually. . The C2 Ultra is double the price, and it should feel a bit more premium as it does, but I’m sure the cheaper C2, and the C2 pro would feel just as premium as the Ultra in the price range closer to the Max. Without question, the C2 ultra has everything that I felt was missing from the XGIMI, it’s snappy, beautiful image, back lit remote, ports galore, and sounds great. Though I’ll still end up using an external speaker as I just like my sound coming from the image side of life. However, If I didn’t know it was better out there, I would have been perfectly fine with the S pro. As long as you get it for the sale price. https://preview.redd.it/e49ysi2u7e5f1.jpeg?width=5584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9bd105a6dae97d893c0117770367165f13bd4431
No problem, the S pro doesn’t get talked about much, I think majority of the YouTube reviews and such are sponsor based, and it’s very little out there regarding the pro. It’s a good projector, looks very good, and it’s definitely special at the price point it’s at. Good luck
I currently have a Xgimi horizon pro. Do you think this one is better? The horizon has 1500 lumens but the difference shouldn’t be very noticeable in practice, right?
The other projector you should look into is the xgimi Horizon Pro. I have seen this side by side with the jvc np5 and epson ls12000. During day and bright scenes the xgimi is just as good as any of the other projectors. The black levels are the best but for the price you can't beat it.
No this is perfect. Thanks for taking the time to educate me. Actually eyeing up the Xgimi horizon S pro so this is very valuable information 👍
