"all the pieces that touch water come apart and can be cleaned"
"My recommendation, get one you can clean easily ... The brand we have for her is Levoit, can be bought on amazon. We previously had the Fridababy one and it was a pain to clean so I wouldn’t recommend that one."

"My small Levoit basically does nothing to change the whole home humidity."
"I bought a Levoit LV600HH (a hybrid ultrasonic/evaporative, apparently) a couple years ago and found that it didn't change the humidity of the room much at all"
"Lately at night the humidity in my bedroom is 20-25% with my Levoit humidifier next to my bed."

"Unfortunately did not install mine until after the Amazon return window ended and I had collapsed the box. I had emails with them back and forth about the smell, assuming that it was covered under the warranty. They were not very helpful. In fact they were very dismissive and told me to get someone to clean it (almost as expensive as the air conditioner) or clean it myself (which I believe would void the warranty) so I used the wick trick to drain water from the a/c and purchased an extended warranty. ... I don't understand why they would have created an AC that didn't drain. ... My brother has two of them, one of which is full of mold"
"it got full of mold in 6 months ... I tried to remove the casing to clean the mold but it’s just in a really inaccessible spot deep in the cold air vent."
"No mold in tricky spots (yet anyway)"

"A note of caution: ultrasonic humidifiers like this atomize *everything* in the water, including any bacteria and minerals. The droplets are microscopic (in the nanometer(!) range), and so can penetrate deep into your lungs. If you're using an ultrasonic mister, you should be using distilled water, or, ideally, deionized. They recommend washing it every few days too. (Most of the parts can go in the dishwasher.) And don't leave water in the mister reservoir when you're not using it. ... As an example of how they can vaporize (bad) stuff other than water, when I first filled the Levoit mister, I poured in water from a gallon jug of distilled water that I had, but I forgot that I had added table salt to the water for flushing out my sinuses. The water was as salty as seawater, and the mist it made created a white fog in the room that left a white deposit on tables and the stereo and everyplace where it landed. Breathing sodium chloride probably isn't too bad for you, but if you are seeing "white dust" after adding hard water, you are probably breathing calcium sulfate deep into your lungs, and that is probably not good at all. RTFM and follow the instructions! ... Bacteria and minerals, both, and the microscopic droplets carry both deep into your lungs."
"The carepod doesn’t have a filter need, but it requires distilled water, and I cannot stand the idea of buying water and using over 1 gallon of it per day. ... We returned the carepod. It was too expensive for me to comfortably use tap water and our cheaper humidifier from before either of these two left white dust everywhere when we used tap water."
"However, the distilled water that I'm using in my Levoit mister requires is $2.50 a gallon, and I use about a gallon a day, so the Vicks is cheaper (to say nothing of the inconvenience of hauling about 50 pounds of distilled water home from the grocery store every week). ... I'm putting distilled water in this ultrasonic mister now, and at about a gallon a day, the cost kind of adds up, and more importantly, having to buy and haul in multiple 20-pound plastic jugs to feed the thing every week is kind of a pain."

"Yeah, I have 6L Levoit and it's a pain in the ass to clean. I do it once a week."

Just a note on Levoit—I’ve had a Levoit Classic 300S humidifier for 3 years and it just stopped working. It was awesome while it worked, but despite cleaning it properly & regularly, it just stopped misting one day. I tried all the recommended troubleshooting methods and nothing helped. Not saying you’ll only get a few years out of a Levoit humidifier, but that ended up being my experience.
A whole home humidor is the best investment. We have a Levoit cool mist in addition to whole home. I think it’s the 300S
You should use a cool mist humidifier for baby. We have a levoit and like to a lot. It has an auto shut off feature which is nice. If the air is too dry in the whole house you may want to consider a whole home humidifier
You should use a cool mist humidifier. We have a Levoit that works well. But we use it in addition to our whole house humidifier we recently had installed. The whole home humidifier was an investment but worth it
I’ve had my [Levoit Classic 300S](https://www.reddit.com/user/Royeth_Ones/comments/1of6v47/best_humidifiers_ive_actually_found_worth_buying/) for over a year now, 6 L tank, runs for \~60 hours, Alexa control, super quiet, and it’s been rock solid. I refill it weekly, descale monthly.
I have a levoit vesync classic and really like it.
Quiet humidifiers exist, but most of the stuff on shelves is built to be disposable. The fan in cool‑mist units is the main noise source, and warm‑mist units trade that for a heating element humming away. Still quieter, just a different kind of noise. The part that actually matters for holding a steady humidity is the sensor. The cheap built‑in ones drift fast, then the thing short cycles itself to death. An external capacitive sensor does a lot better, but most manufacturers skip it to save a dollar. The tank and body should be thick ABS or polypropylene. The clear plastic stuff cracks once you put it through a few heating cycles. If you go warm mist, look for a stainless steel boil chamber. Aluminum pits, scales up, and turns into a mess after a season or two. Ultrasonic units are fine as long as the ceramic disc is replaceable. The sealed ones die the moment that disc wears out. Mechanical relays last longer than the tiny solid state boards that fry when the heater kicks on a few thousand times. Some of the older Vicks warm mist units got these details right, mostly because they weren’t trying to be “smart”. Levoit’s Classic line isn’t perfect, but at least they don’t fall apart instantly. Skip anything with a touchscreen. Those panels cook themselves from the steam path and the whole thing becomes landfill in a year.
Running a humidifier in my room while I sleep helps a ton. I bought [this one](https://a.co/d/fGDFBD5) earlier this year to replace an old one that was harder to clean, and it’s been great so far. You can sync it with an app to set your ideal humidity level, rather than plain on/off. I also keep a saline spray on my bedside table and use that before bed and if I wake in the night. Also drink a lot of water during the day to stay hydrated. I find the nights the dry air is worst for me are the nights I haven’t been drinking enough water. I’m sensitive to the dry air anyway, and I’m pregnant right now so it’s like x100. I hope this helps!
Just got the 6 L top fill levoit top fill. It’s quiet ! Love it. No dropping noises like the Honeywell I got and returned prior.
There is no such thing as a maintenance-free humidifier, whether it’s evaporative, ultrasonic, or even steam, they all require regular cleaning or regular changing of filters (or sometimes both). Steam is less prone to mold, but also super hot, and is prone to scale buildup which still requires cleaning. I would suggest giving your current unit a thorough clean first to see if that solves the issue. We have a 6L LEVOIT (ultrasonic/cool mist) humidifier, and I check ours every couple of weeks. If I see the mold, wipe the affected areas down with vinegar and rinse. Hydrogen peroxide 3% works well if I really want to feel thorough. We also make sure to change out the filter as recommended or more often (you can buy them in bulk). We also run two Vornado evaporative humidifiers on the first floor of the house. Let me tell you, the wicks in those develop considerable mold, and we change them out once a month or sometimes more often. Regardless of humidifier the concept is the same. You have to take care of them no matter what you buy.
Yeah, I have 6L Levoit and it's a pain in the ass to clean. I do it once a week.
I run two, Levoit (6L) humidifiers on the main level of my home (1900sq), one in the living area and one in the primary bedroom. They only run in the morning and evening. They do enough to keep things from getting too dry. I don't bother with the basement. Went this route instead of replacing the whole house humidifier at a cost that made me balk. The 120ish cost was a bit more palatable.
