Avocado latex mattress is the holy grail for me, had it for about seven years and still love it.

Thank you so much for doing this AMA. A few thoughts from me: - I can tell you know a lot about regional manufacturers. That's rare. Unfortunately, the advice to look around locally for independents is easier said than done. Even in a huge market like Los Angeles you've got Royal Pedic, Custom Comfort or Avocado if you want an all natural mattress made within in an hour of your home. Berkeley Ergonomics is made in Ontario but you can't go to the factory and buy a mattress from them. And their retailers are scarce. It's crazy there isn't anying in Los Angeles like European Sleepworks (Bay Area), Prana (Florida), or Charles P. Rogers (New York). - Did you know that Avocado just changed their all latex mattress within the last 60 days? Previously the all latex mattress was > 2 inches of Dunlop (D65 / 14-19 ILD) latex in the top layer > 3 inches of (D75 / 28-33 ILD) in the middle > 4 inches of (D75) at the base. - The new all latex Avocado mattress is: > 6 inches (N4) Talalay in the top layer (30-35 ILD) > 3 inches of (D65) Dunlop (14-19 ILD) at the base. > **These specs make no sense to me as it seems like the bottom layer is softer. Maybe I'm misunderstanding their web site. I have no idea what N4 means** - I wish Avocado would just do a 6-inch/7-zone core like Royal Pedic. I don't understand the need for 3-inches of Dunlop unless they are using lesser quality Talalay. > Avocado still stuffs their mattresses in boxes and Custom Comfort does not. The features that enable a mattress to fit into a box are the features that make that same mattress less durable. Less long lasting. A mattress that ships flat is preferable to one that comes in a box. But that means you are stuck with a local manufacturer which getting back to first point - is rarer than it should be. You can always flat ship a mattress across the country but shipping will be the same price as the mattress. Forget free shipping on a mattress that ships flat. - I notice you underscoring the value of tufting in many of your comments. With the advent of pocket coils anyone can buy slabs of anything and glue it all together. Tufting is a unique feel that you could never replicate with glued slabs. Not that tufting is the only way to go. Plenty of glued slab mattresses are great depending on the user. - Avocado tufts all their mattresses which is a nice feature at that price point. - I noticed you didn't mention Nest. The Finch is: > 3 inches Talalay (28 ILD Medium or 36 ILD Firm) on the top layer > 6 inches 36 ILD Talalay as the bottom layer. - The top layer of the Nest Finch is a quilted cotton, wool and eco-foam, whatever that is... I made a post here when I first started looking: https://old.reddit.com/r/Mattress/comments/1jswv49/my_latex_mattress_research_so_far_which_of_these/ I also made a post about tufting recently. https://old.reddit.com/r/Mattress/comments/1o6uevm/tufting_where_to_find_it/ I was surprised to get pushback from one prominent manufacturer about how tufting is unnecessary. I know it's personal preference but I wouldn't say it's irrelevant or unnecesary.

1) Yes the tufted hybrid from SOL is a new, exciting option. I talked to them a bit in this thread. https://old.reddit.com/r/Mattress/comments/1p8mlmi/introducing_the_sleep_on_latex_hybrid_mattress/ I hold out hope that companies like SOL and Avocado will have switched to Talalay by next year. 2) I started making a list of tufted options but never finished it: https://old.reddit.com/r/Mattress/comments/1o6uevm/tufting_where_to_find_it/ 3) Spencer is a couple of hours from me. I have watched a lot of his videos. I'm not a fan of gluing slabs together the way he demonstrates but he also has tufted mattresses. I think it's odd that he does not have details or descriptions of his European style mattresses. For the price I think I'll continue to consider Berkeley Ergonomics, Royal Pedic or even Avocado. It's just a hassle to get up there. And I'd have to rent a truck to get the mattress home, AND I just don't think the company is *that* transparent. I think if you lived less than an hour from Spencer's that would be a strong contender. Thanks for checking in here... Good luck with your search!

If there is one thing you don't go cheap on is a mattress! I know its a mattress salesmen pitch but it is true...Don't skimp on something you will be using 1/3 of your time and which has a multitude of impacts on your health. First you need to determine your predominant sleep position for firmness. Don't go all memory foam unless its a tempurpedic, and those are expensive. On the budget friendly side stick with combination of memory foam and springs, I can honestly recommend Brooklyn Bedding , I had the Auorora Luxe and I got the best sleep ever as a side/back sleeper who suffered from shoulder and back pain. Helix is their upscale brand and equally good with more premium materials. When we upgraded to a king size bed, we went with organic latex from Avocado. The good thing about the internet only vendors is long trial periods and no interest payment plans if you cant unload a few thousand on the spot. Costco is another viable option with their forever return policy also, and they have good prices on run of the mill mattresses. Stay away from mattress and furniture stores, quality is crap and huge markups.

I highly recommend sleep on latex! We tried the avocado in person and didn’t like it so I’d try it first if possible.

Had an Avocado for 2 years, no sagging but way firmer than expected. Took months to break in and hurt my hips as a side sleeper at first. Consider adding a topper. Also it's insanely heavy.

We had the naturpedic for a crib mattress. I know they are supposed to be very firm but it was so hard and I wonder if that’s why he didn’t sleep well in his crib. We got a full size Avocado a couple months ago for a floor bed so we can Co sleep and it’s very nice! I will say it felt too soft for the first couple days and we were worried. But it firmed up as it aired out. Now it’s very comfortable. He has been sleeping very wonderfully on it, too.

We have twin and queen mattresses from Avocado. They have a bit of a unique smell occasionally, I think because of the wool, but I don't find it offensive. They are HEAVY though!  I also got their twin waterproof mattress protector for one bed and the Naturepedic equivalent for the other, and both of those have worked great for multiple kid related fluids, lol. And just in case you're looking for new pillows to, I switched to a buckwheat hull pillow earlier this year. I love it, and I've heard millet hull ones are even nicer.

We paid a ton of money for our king avocado (from the manufacturer) and 5 years later it dips in the middle. Disappointing bc we have an avocado crib mattress that we used for 2 kids and it’s been fine.

I have an avocado queen size in my guest room and my baby’s crib mattress is an avocado too and both have been great. The queen is only in the guest room because we got a king size and I wanted an even firmer mattress.

I had an avocado and liked it but prefer a firmer mattress so now I have a “the plank”
