I HATE the feeling of sinking into the mattress!! I finally upgraded and got a Titan (whatever the basic one is, Core I think?) it actually arrived while I was in labor, so I got to climb into the brand new bed with the brand new baby and it was just the absolute best feeling. That was almost 4 years ago now! 😮 Still feels wonderful!
The Titan Plus Core is solid and usually heavily discounted (it’s like 600 bucks for a queen atm, I believe). I was a big fan of the Helix Dawn Luxe when I tried it out, too. Both should have enough cushioning to not feel like you’re lying on a brick on your side.
Hey, great question. So the Titan Plus Core was recently updated from the old Titan Plus and its surface feels a good bit softer. It seems a little more balanced out now despite it being a pretty minimal change. I have the Titan Plus Elite myself and it’s super firm and supportive but I’ve never had issues with the springs. I lie on my stomach so I’m plopping all my weight on it basically and I have 0 complaints. I’ve enjoyed all the Titan stuff I’ve gotten my hands on so far.
I would agree with one of the commenters that the Big Fig is one of the most supportive options on the market. I'm around 300 lbs, and I test mattresses for support, sleeping positions etc. It's one of my faves. I've also had good experiences with the Saatva HD. With regard to the Titan Plus Luxe, I found it to be a good supportive option for someone in my weight range. However, it does have that plush pillow top on top. If you're a side sleeper, you might want to stick with that so you get good pressure relief. But, if you just sleep on your back, I would go with the Titan Plus Core. It's firmer and has less plushness right on top. To your general question about materials, I would stay away from memory foam mattresses with thick foam on top. We larger sleepers do need something on the firmer end, and memory foam can indeed let you sink in too far.
I got to test and review the Plank Firm mattress, and it's definitely one of the firmest mattresses I've tried. The firm side felt like an 8/10 and the extra firm side felt like a 9/10. I didn't get to try it for super extended period of time, but it was super firm. You might also want to look at a latex hybrid mattress. In my experience, a lot of them are on the firmer end. The Saatva Latex Hybrid and Avocado Eco Organic come to mind. And, as others have noted, many of the mattresses built for larger people can be really firm. I'm 295 lbs, and I still got some firm support from the Titan Plus Core and the Big Fig as well.
Can I ask what positions you both sleep in? You say you're not getting good pressure relief, so I'm imagining one of you sleeps on your side. I'm a 295 lb. back and side sleeper, and I've had good experiences with the Titan Plus Elite and the Titan Plus Elite. The Titan Plus Core was too firm for me, but the other two models add some better pressure relief with their pillow tops. You're right that the Big Fig is pretty firm, and I didn't get the best pressure relief on that one either. I also like the WinkBed Plus but it might be too firm if one of you is closer to 220.
Hey, I'm 6'7", and I weigh almost 300 lbs. I also test mattresses for a living, and I am a fan of the Titan mattresses. I will say that the Elite feels softer than the regular Titan Plus, so that might be a better fit for you. The Plus, for me, scored about a 9/10, which is way firmer than average. The Elite scored closer to a 6.5/10, which is pretty much medium-firm. Some other models you could check out are the Helix Plus and the WinkBed Plus. Those are made for people our size, and they should be within your budget for a full-size.
I test mattresses, and I've tried a good amount of the mattresses advertised specifically for heavier body weights. I'm 6'7" and I weigh 295 lbs, so I take that into account when I'm testing. There are a few models that I've had a good experience with. First off, the Big Fig felt as firm and supportive as advertised. I wouldn't say that it felt like sleeping on a board, but it definitely felt more like I was sleeping "on top" of the mattress. I found it to be good for back and stomach sleeping, too. I also liked the Titan Plus mattress. It's a more affordable model. This is also on the firmer side, and it's designed to hold up more weight. It was also good for back and stomach, but the Titan Plus Luxe I found to be better for side sleeping. And, the Saatva HD is the priciest of the bunch, but it's my favorite. It features many layers of high-density foam and more supportive coils. It's also firmer and good for back and stomach. Also, my good friend has had one for 4 years, and he's still sleeping on it with no sagging issues.
I bought a Titan Plus last December, and I like it a lot -- but it is extremely firm. I think if I were to do it again, I'd by the Titan Plus Luxe.
I posted above, but in case you don't see it, I recommend the Titan Plus Luxe. I have the Titan Plus, and it is extremely firm. It's a terrific mattress, but I do wish I had gotten the Luxe, which is just a bit softer.
Titans are worth the price.
plank firm is a solid choice. the titan plus core is another legitimately firm option in that same price range. Both from Brooklyn Bedding. Both have good trial periods, so even without trying in-store, you're covered if it doesn't workout. Returns are pretty straightforward
i'd strongly suggest looking at the titan plus core. Honestly, given your back issues and need for firm support, this mattress was pretty much built for ur situation imo
the titan plus is the one I'd seriously look at in ur budget and situation. Plus it has a solid motion isolation
imo the plank firm is def a good choice, the dual-sided thing is pretty unique these days. Another one, is the Titan Plus Core, hybrid as well and it's the firmest on their line. Not quite a firm as the plank's but very supportive with better airflow
Just look for a heavy duty/plus size bed. I have a Titan mattress personally. It's fine for the task and was on the cheaper side of plus size beds.
If you wear the edges get a big fig because it's firmer than titan luxe and the edges are actually firm. In the titan not only are the edges less firm but there's a weird disconnect between where the actual edges are and where you think they are causing me to fall a couple times until I understood how to sit on it LOL. Buy big fig but ALSO buy a topper because it will hurt due to how firm it is. A 3 inch topper and big fig is your best bet for longer lasting firmness and less pain when your break it in
husband and i splurged on a Titan mattress when moving into our new place, and it's the comfiest bed i've ever slept on! we're a mixed-size couple, as well— i weigh around 280 and it's medium softness for me; husband is about 140 and it's firmer for him but still very comfortable.
