Really? Which mattress? I've had the Original and now the Alpine and find them pretty firm. That being said before the Original (first one I bought), I was using a pillowtop..
I'm a fan of Douglas, just bought a second mattress (upgraded in size when I moved).
I ordered the Douglas Alpine 3 weeks ago, first memory foam ever and I really like it.
Douglas mattress I got their classic back in 2018. Only complaint was that it can run warm which was a problem for me in a well-insulated apartment with no air conditioning. I got the Alpine mattress which is advertised as cooling. I don’t know if I’d go as far as to say it’s cooling but it stays a good temperature and does not get hot. They included a free sleep bundle - pillows, pillow cases, and a mattress protector which was nice.
I got to try it out locally first :) I tried the S&F Estate and the DreamStar and could hardly tell the difference between the two. The DreamStar was quite a bit cheaper. We had ordered the Douglas Alpine without trying it and ended up returning it. It was just too firm for me, I experienced shoulder, and across the back pain. We just bought it in August, so time will tell. Ours did come with a 15 year warranty though.
I've had a Douglas for 8ish years and we love it. I think we got an upgraded model, not 100% sure
I also have a Douglas.
I recently bought a Logan & Cove mattress (Frontier) and I'm not thrilled with it. I'm planning to return it. There's nothing major wrong with it, it just isn't supportive enough for me and I'm a relatively small person. YMMV and mattress preferences are super personal. My previous mattress was a Douglas and I was happy with it for the first 4-5 years, but it started to compress/sag significantly enough that I replaced it shortly after the 5 year mark.
We have an Endy, its about 8 or 9 years old. Overall its been good, I think its just getting old now. Some family members bought a Douglas (mid range price i think) and after sleeping on it for a few nights at their cottage, I would definitely buy a Douglas next. A saw another comment about pillows - have you tried a pillow specifically for side sleeping? I bought one from a company called Ornatera. It was a random Instagram ad and I had such intense shoulder pain every morning I figured why not? It helps SO much.
I have a Douglas mattress and have quite enjoyed it. Firm enough for support but comfortable. My whole family ended up buying them as well! Canadian company and mattresses made here as well!
I'm a 6'3, 210 pounds side sleeper and I love my Douglas. If you weigh more than ~250lbs make sure to pay attention to the suggested weight limits for whatever you're looking at. It will determine whether the mattress is suitable for you. Lots of info on mattresses out there, for sleeping styles, weights, etc.
