Hi there! Sorry to hear you have been waking up with lower back pain and some shoulder pain/stiffness. Although it's fairly common to have some aches while your body is adjusting to a new mattress and the mattress breaks in, pain that continues or gets worse is usually a sign that something isn't quiet right. The Midnight Luxe is designed as a medium feel and tends to work very well for side sleepers because it provides extra pressure relief around the shoulders and hips. However, since both of you spend time sleeping on your stomach, it’s possible that the mattress may be allowing the hips to sink a bit more than what’s ideal for that position. Stomach sleepers need a bit more support through the midsection to help keep the spine more aligned and reduce lower back strain. Based on what you described, a model like the Dusk Luxe is often a great option for combination sleepers who rotate between side and stomach while still liking a medium feel mattress. It provides a bit more pushback and support through the hips and lower back while still offering enough cushioning for the shoulders. The Twilight Luxe is firmer overall and tends to work best for side sleepers who strongly prefer a very supportive, firmer feel. Before making a final decision (regardless on what you choose), I'd also recommend checking a couple small things that can sometimes make a big difference: * Make sure the mattress is on a supportive foundation or base. If it's on a foundation that isn't properly supportive, this can cause the mattress to sag thus creating back pain. * Give the mattress a bit of time to fully break in (the first 30–45 days can feel slightly firmer) * Consider pillow height, since shoulder stiffness can sometimes come from a pillow that’s too low or too high for side/stomach sleeping If you need any assistance or have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I’m a plus size side sleeper who can’t stand firm beds too. I tried a bunch in store yesterday and really loved the Helix Midnight Luxe and Helix Dusk Luxe. That being said, I know the Luxe line is above your price range, but their core line right now is in your budget. I wonder if one of those with a topper would be a good option for you. I definitely suggest trying to go lay on things tho. I’m finding reading reviews and people’s isn’t very helpful because everything is so subjective. You have to decide what feels good for you and your specific body.

My wife and I were torn between Purple and Helix. Tried Purple in-store and honestly? It felt like lying on a giant Dr. Scholl’s insole. Not bad, just bizarre. Some people say your body adjusts but we didn’t want to gamble. Went Helix Dusk Luxe instead and it’s been perfect. Supportive for her back sleeping, still cushy enough for me on my side. Biggest surprise was how cool it stays—no more sweaty 3 a.m. wake-ups.[](https://lovable.dev/projects/1c71fe17-d814-4e81-985f-313264583bed?utm_source=lovable-badge)

Helix Dusk Luxe. Well, imo there's no universal "right" answer because everyone's body responds differently but lean toward whichever one lets you wake up with less pain, that's your body telling u what it needs

Back pain usually comes from the mattress letting your hips sink too much. Foam beds like Tempur or Casper feel good at first, but they don’t always keep your spine lined up. Hybrids are better since the coils give structure and the foam adds pressure relief. Helix is worth a look because they offer an ErgoAlign layer that’s zoned to support your lower back. The Midnight Luxe is their most popular, but for back pain I’d lean toward the Dusk Luxe since it’s firmer through the middle. Even their Core line has the same upgrade option if you want to spend less.

Medium-firm on the Dusk leans more toward the firm side, it's designed for back and stomach sleepers who need solid support. Since you're a side and back sleeper, the Dusk Luxe is actually a better call IMO. It's the same medium-firm base but adds a pillow top for pressure relief, so you get the support your back needs without your shoulders getting punished when you're on your side. The zoned coils also adapt better to mixed sleep positions, and it does soften slightly during break-in but stays supportive long-term.

if you're 100% a stomach sleeper, plank firm luxe is probably be fine. But if you ever roll to your side during the night, it might feel pretty unforgiving on your shoulders.  Another alternatives worth checking out are titan plus luxe and helix dusk luxe. Titan, if u want something that'll hold up long-term and won't collapse at the edges, it's worth comparing to the Plank. Helix Dusk Luxe got zoned coils that are firmer under hips which helps keep stomach sleepers aligned

Maybe the Helix Dusk Luxe would work for both of you. It doesn’t have the split firmness thing but it’s made for couples with different sleep styles. It’s a hybrid so it has coils for support and a softer top layer and sits between medium and medium-firm. That can work for side and back sleepers. It also has cooling layers which may help with heat.

We got one of those about ten years ago, but weren't very happy with it. There weren't actually coils in it, it was those lateral springs like you get in a dorm mattress. It lasted us about 4-5 years before we couldn't get a good night's sleep anymore and got a Black Label instead (also not really working for us).

Another vote for helix. We love our firm helix king mattress and we have the cooling gel top.

Yes, same with my helix mattress. It’s not a memory foam mattress, those are hot as other people have said. The cooling gel feels so good that my kid is always climbing on the mattress and laying on it going « ahhhhh refreshing » 😆

I would take a look at helix, Leesa, Brooklyn bedding. I bought my helix midnight elite from a retailer, so I had a chance to try a lot of different options. Personally the Winkbed did not live up to the hype for me. Even the luxe helix models felt much nicer. I also really liked the Nolah evolution.
