For a crib mattress, breathable marketing matters less than firm + flat + snug fit in the crib, that’s what keeps it safe. I’d compare those two on basics like GREENGUARD Gold, no added flame retardants, washable cover, and whether the edges stay firm when you press down, some cheaper breathable cores still sag around the perimeter. If you’re thinking past the crib stage, that’s where something like the Helix Kids mattress makes more sense, it’s built for the toddler and kid years, not newborn sleep.
Helix kids is a great mattress for growing children. It’s flippable like one side is softer and the other is firmer, so you can switch it as your kid gets older. It's non toxic, hypoallergenic and the cover is supposed to be water repellent so less likely for your kid to ruin it. Still BUY a protector tho! Good idea with a full size, it will be better in the long run!
The soft side is actually made for kids around that age. It’ll work better for kids since they’re lighter and don’t sink in as much
Yeah, a waterproof protector is worth it. Just get a fabric one like terry or bamboo so it doesn’t feel hot or make noise. It’ll keep the mattress clean without changing the feel. And you’re right, cheap kids’ beds don’t last. The foam breaks down fast. The Helix Kids mattress holds up better since it’s a hybrid with coils for support. You can flip it too, firm for younger kids and softer for later, so it lasts longer as they grow.
Helix kids holds up fine, mine's lasted 3 years with a jumper. get a decent waterproof protector ($50-60 range), cheap ones feel plasticky but good ones don't. also yeah the sub-$100 mattresses are your problem
definitely helix kids mattress 👌
I'd def reco checking out Helix Mattresses. They actually have showrooms where u can try out in person. They're also known for customizable firmness levels and spinal support which matters a lot with scoliosis
the online route with a trial period removes basically all the pressure you're worried about brands like helix, leesa or titan mattress are pretty decent. You just sleep on it, literally and decide
We bought the helix kids mattress for our oldest and liked it so much we bought it again for our youngest. Our first one is about 3 years old and still like new. It’s so comfortable that both my husband and I fall asleep on them sometimes when we are doing bedtime routines. Overall we’ve been very happy with the purchase.
I spend extra for low VOC if they're going to be on it for extended periods of time like sleeping on it. My car seats are fire retardant free and the crib/toddler mattresses are greenguard gold. For the crib mattress, I got the Dream on Me 2-in-1 which is an affordable $50. I did spend $750 for a Helix Kids full mattress but I figured that I might fall asleep on it too so it might as well be comfortable and they'd be sleeping on it for 10 years.
Helix is the closest thing that works for me. I think the hybrid stays cool
We have a Helix mattress - it's a hybrid. I love it. We did a lot of research before buying to make sure we got something appropriate for our sizes and sleep positions and everything.
I purchased the Casper- all foam- returned in a month I then purchased a helix- hybrid - one has lasted 9 years, and I’ve purchased 2 more for other bedrooms
