I'm also plus size and during my mattress research, you definitely want to go with a hybrid. A lot of memory foam mattresses aren't built to handle higher weights and then you bottom out into the non comfort layers and it can be really uncomfortable. Besides a hybrid, you want to look for something that is rated to hold your combined weights. You also want to look for strong edge, preferably 8 inch coils, and a coil gauge that is 13-12. 14 could be ok if it's a zoned mattress. It's also good to look for high density foams or even latex for the comfort layers. A lot of plus size mattresses tend to be on the firm side, so be sure to look at the firmness rating from the manufacturer. Personally, I decided to go away from the S brands because the components weren't as heavy duty as I wanted. I wanted to go for longevity over a softer feel up front. Wherever you buy, be sure to look through the warranty information. Some stores and manufacturers will void a warranty if they say you weigh too much. Which is pretty unfair IMO if the mattress is supposed to be able to handle that much weight. I decided to go with the Leesa plus with a topper since I wanted a more memory foam feel, but still have good support. I've had it about a week and I'm still undecided. But, whatever mattress you get, it can take 4-6 weeks to fully break in a mattress.
I have a Leesa Plus and I like it. Wait for a sale or check out sites like nap lab for discount codes. Their reviews are hit and miss, especially since they don't have any actual plus size people test the mattresses, though.
Foam-only beds usually trap heat, no matter what the brand says. If you both run hot, you’ll want a hybrid with coils since they breathe better. Leesa has a model called Oasis Chill that’s designed for hot sleepers with copper foam and a cooling cover. If you also need more support, the Plus is built stronger but still keeps airflow in mind. I’ve seen customers go from waking up sweaty every night to actually sleeping through after switching to one of those. With your budget you’d be fine trying one of their higher-end hybrids, and since they come with a trial you can see if it really helps before fully committing.
My son is a big guy (6'3" and probably around 250). He needed a bigger sized mattress when his girlfriend moved in so I suggested the Leesa Plus sized Hybrid. We have the original Leesa hybrid mattress and absolutely love it. He took my advice and they both rave about it. He bought the queen size and when they move to a bigger place, they are going to get a King.
We have a Leesa hybrid mattress and love it. My son and his girlfriend have the same thing, except it's the one made for heavier people and they love it too. We were able to test it out at the West Elm store that's in the shopping center across from South Coast Plaza, if that helps

I'm a larger person (around 295 lbs), and I've tested out quite a few mattresses built to support additional weight without sagging. You mentioned the Titan, and that is one of my favorites. Since you both sleep on your back and side, the Titan Plus Luxe would be better. I would also check out the Leesa Plus Hybrid mattress. It's also built for our weight range, but it still offers good pressure relief for side sleeping. The WinkBed Plus is durable and supportive too, but I found it to be a bit too firm for side sleeping.
I am 6'7" and weigh around 300 lbs, and I was also a fan of the Titan Plus Luxe. But, if it's not working for you anymore, I can offer a few other options I like for a big and tall mattress. First off, I do like the Saatva HD but, in my experience, it is on the firmer side (definitely much firmer than the Titan Plus Luxe). I didn't get the best pressure relief for side sleeping myself. For side sleeping and extra support at the same time, I'm more a fan of the Helix Plus Luxe and the Leesa Plus Hybrid as well.
Yeah if you truly want something on the firm end, most firm spring beds still have contouring and that can read softer than you expect. The Plank Firm is unusual with two firmness sides, so flipping can let you experiment, but it still uses a fair amount of softer foams layered over coils so it never feels \*rock hard\* like some people want. For a firmer feel that’s genuinely noticeable, the Leesa Plus Hybrid is built with extra support and denser foams paired with a robust coil base, it’s aimed at folks who want a solid surface and less sink while still avoiding a lumber-yard board.
I slept on it for almost 3 weeks. To speed the break in process, I walked around on it for 15 minutes/day during the 2nd week or so--I read somewhere that might help, lol. At the end, It felt a bit softer than the first day, but still too firm. I'm not sure if break-in is a thing and it actually got softer, or if I was just getting used to it. I ordered a Leesa Hybrid Medium Plus from Costco to try out and have now slept on that for 1.5 weeks. The Leesa is as soft as I'd want to go for my back, but I'm still waking up with some shoulder discomfort. Probably a me-thing and not a mattress-thing. Comparing the two: Platinum is a firm (or maybe firm-minus) mattress that seems well made and sleeps fairly cool. It is comfortable for back sleepers (and maybe stomach?) and less comfortable for side. The Leesa is a medium mattress that sleeps warms that is better for side sleepers but might be a bit soft if you have a back issue. Nevertheless, I'm not sure which one I'll return. I have on going lower back problems that might be worse on the Leesa--it's hard to tell as I pulled a muscle in my back the other day unrelated to the mattress. But even before that, I was leaning toward the Platinum being easier on my back. For me, I think there's a problematic balance between firm for my back and medium for my preferred sleeping position. The Platinum definitely sleeps cooler than the Leesa--my wife asked me about that issue unprompted, and she's not picky at all wrt mattresses.
Not everyone is the same, you need to figure out what you prefer, soft or firm, or in between. I side sleep and prefer a more firm bed. I got the titan, and love it, I tried Leeta and the Costco brands, nova form? Not sure the Costco brands name, they were fine, but too soft for me, soft feel great at first, but for 8 hours I didn’t like it. The titan is firm, but not like hard, just not plush. Not pushing titan brand, but saying figure out what level of firmness/softness you like and find a model that claims that type of firmness/softness.
We got the leesa hybrid from Costco. No back or hip pain. The only drawback is that the edge is not firm.
Buy from Costco. The return policy is excellent. We ended up with a hybrid leesa and it has been great. We had memory foam novaform and the Kirkland Stearns and foster and the leesa has been the best. No hop or back pain anymore.
Honestly this is the best option at your price point. The only cheaper ones are the bed in the box type. Side note going down the mattress rabbit hole. If you're young it might not matter as much. But a nice mattress and good sleep is wild important. Save and get something nicer for your type sleep. Lots of things come into play for mattresses. Beyond firmness you are used to. How do you sleep, example side back, stomach. How firm are you used. Your weight and how long before it says. Are you hear sensitive, certain mattresses retain a lot of heat. We ended up with a Leesa from Costco. The return policy plus decent reviews. We went with a hybrid, so it's memory foam and springs. It was also a bed in a box.
I can’t attest to test-of-time, but we got a Leesa hybrid mattress from Costco when they were on sale for under $1000 and we love it. It’s on the firmer side of midrange.
