So first off, delivery was excellent. Two delivery men got this thing through the tightest narrow hallway ever without my help and it was perfectly fine, don't fear if it will fit. The mattress is a medium-firm but also very soft and deep countouring whilst supportive. I believe this mattresss has some of the thickest high density foam (not low density cheap stuff) ever produced in a mattress, I believe 8 inches with another 8 inches of coils plus the euro pillow top. Its supposed to have more HDF than the best tempur pedic. The thing I think has about 2000 coils in the king and 1600 in the queen (correct if wrong). The mattress is super cool and does not sleep hot. The edge support is insanely good, in fact shocking. We have it on a $150 wooden amazon headboard bed (Allewie King Size Bed frame). This frame holds this 250 lb mattress and my wife, dog, me without any creaking or support issues at all. The headboard is also high enough for this 16.5" beast. Yes, I put a $2k mattress on a $150 bed and its actually perfect. The luxury foam experience is something ive never felt before. The mattress is insanely supportive and feels medium firm when you first jump on it but then over the course of 20-30 seconds you slowly sink down on your heavy pressure points. Cheap foam mattresses take like 3 seconds to sink in to, so its actually crazy to experience this for the first time with the very slow but deep enough sinkage, its almost like cold gel. The motion transfer is very good as well, don't notice my wife moving around yet we can tell its good and not over sinking for when we make spicy time. Overall, S-tier mattress. Costco return policy to back it up and 20 year limited warranty. I missed the sale and paid $2100ish with tax but im monitoring for any future sales for price matching. Any questions, let me know. This review is for u/TropicalBlueWater and u/PrairieDawn4
I love it, money well spent. Very firm when brand new as its high density foam that takes very long to break in the slightest, then softens out to a medium firm. Countouring gel feel that has lots of support, surface is slippery smooth you could sleep on it without a sheet. You will love it once broken in, at first i almost hated it. I will use this mattress til the day I die, and hopefully never have to buy another.
Yeah i almost returned it from the stomach sleeping firmness, then over time your back gets used to what a proper alignment feels like and the top foam starts to soften up its 8 lb density. It took almost 2 weeks before I realized how amazing it was and that my back was used to being in an improper sunken in cheap memory foam pit. People aren't lying about adjustment periods for your back on a proper spinal aligned bed like this, you just have to get through it then randomly it will just become your preferred style. If I went back to cheap sinking memory foam, I would be in pain.
3 week update: Softened out a whole lot. At first is was very firm, softens out to a medium firm. I hated it the first week as my lower back is used to deep sinking and improper spine alignment, I almost returned it. My back straightened out and I wake up without any pain. Its so luxurious I will never buy a different mattress for the rest of my life.
grabbed this on the christmas day sale. we’re 3 nights in and my girlfriend (side/stomach sleeper) who said “i’ll never be able to sleep on this, it’s too firm” just had a 97 sleep score on her oura app last night…it’s about as good of a mattress you’ll get for the price.
I just went through the same thing. 20 year old Tempur-Pedic (held up amazingly well and had mattress protector) and bought the same Costco Novaform 16.5" Platinum Luxury Hybrid Euro Top Mattress, and you are correct, the king size rings in @250lbs, beast indeed. It was advertised as a medium, so I was very surprised to find that it was incredibly firm once delivered. I have it set up on an adjustable base. Was thinking I would return it, but after a few nights it started to soften up while still holding its shape. I am thinking it may be a winner after all, but I’m going to give it a few more weeks to decide. It’s a HUGE difference in feel from my old Tempur-Pedic.
Still happy with mine!
My Kirkland sheets don’t fit as well as the Hotel Collection I buy at Costco.
I’m so happy to hear everyone seems to like it and I didn’t mislead anyone!
Hi! Sorry you’re waking up hot! Has the warmth coincided with using the mattress pad? Fiberfill (especially lofty) acts as a thermal buffer that traps warm air, resulting in a warmer microclimate on top of the bed, while also reducing how much you can feel the mattress’s cooling effect. I have a cheap Protect A Bed mattress protector from Costco without the loft and thought it was less “nice” than the loft I was used to and used on my guest bed. With my prior mattress, I used a mattress pad that was very similar to what you have, until I didn’t get it dried in time after washing and had to put the Protect A Bed mattress protector on instead, which resulted in noticeably cooler, less sweaty sleep. I was still often hot because of the mattress (and my dogs), but was much cooler than I had been. I now use it on the novaform platinum and it fits the mattress (sides are super stretchy and big). I’ve been waiting for Costco to get the Protect A Bed (or similar) mattress protectors back (love a good Costco deal) and still need one for my guest bed, so looked recently on Protect A Bed’s website and they have some okay priced (not Costco priced) as well as much more expensive cooling mattress protectors I may splurge on if Costco doesn’t ever get something comparable back. We do keep the house very cool at night and sleep with a fan on (mostly for the noise, but the air circulation doesn’t hurt), but I sleep super hot and am reportedly a furnace at night, as are my 2 big dogs we can’t get out of the bed, and the only time I wake up uncomfortable is after hours of my dog insisting on laying under the covers with her whole body pressed along mine and inching over and partially on top of me every time I move to get space till I’m stuck on my side at the very edge of the mattress (yay for the side support so I don’t feel like I’m falling off anymore). With this mattress, I wake up needing space and appreciating it feels a little cooler when she’s not basically on top of me, but I’m not hot, sweaty, and miserable like I was with the prior mattress (again much worse I think with the lofty fiberfill mattress pad). Good luck!
Same. Was a little reluctant at first not being able to try it out, but so far we love it. Switched from a 20 year old seal that was beat to crap so it's quite the upgrade.
I posted this a few days ago. I was looking for a very long time, including the Nap Lab reviews, Consumer Reports, all sorts of stores, other speciality YT channels including mattress boutiques, and the Novaform Platinum Luxury at Costco (free white glove delivery and returns which is worth at least a couple hundred bucks at Mattress Firm and similar) is hands down the best I’ve come across. I got it on a sale for $1400 and it feels like at least a $3000 mattress that’s built VERY, VERY well. I expect this mattress to actually last. If you can increase your budget a bit, hope for another similar sale, and the descriptions look good to you, I highly recommend. Here’s a link to a post I made and there’s a few others if you search this sub as it seems a lot of people are interested in this model since the specs and price are rare…… https://www.reddit.com/r/Mattress/s/UPpTrJFf9F
I agree! Originally I was hoping for a mattress that was medium-plush. The kind where it’s supportive, yet you sink in like a cloud. After too much searching I still couldn’t justify plunking down or financing around $4,000 to get that cloud experience. This Novaform is damn near equal to the luxury models I would’ve loved to afford though! It’s hard to explain, it’s not the same cloud feel, it’s supportive, kind of firm, yet soft and contouring. More memory foam contour versus soft spongey pillow. Your GF’s sleep score is a better way of putting it! Some quantitative data versus my qualitative!
Oh dang, that’s a very, very nice bed, similar to what I would’ve wanted, if only my budget were there too! 😮 Maybe one day! Enjoy! Lol yes this Platinum is like 1/3 the price, but damn, an Aireloom plush top is something almost impossible to beat.
It’s a good thing you were not shopping with me, because I would’ve had a much more difficult time looking at the overall price! Several salespeople tried that with me and one store I just wanted to bolt for the door, because the salesman would not leave me alone! Wow, $75/month for an Aireloom plush? I would’ve started justifying. 😅 My thing is I drive a used car and something felt off spending more on a mattress than on my car. Then this lead to existential questioning why a machine purchase with a lot of ongoing costs and maintenance is a given, yet a mattress, arguably one of the most important products a human being experiences for 6-8 hrs/night year after year, and impacting all waking hours, is something often called a luxury. In this economy though…… But for anyone looking, an Aireloom is a nice bed! It’s one that’s less marketing hype and more actually getting something wonderful. Glad for you NoSale2936!
**Update after Hey everyone, it’s been a few weeks sleeping on this mattress and I wanted to update as I gave my word in my original post. So far, the Novaform Platinum is still a very, very nice mattress. That being said, I’m waking up a bit too hot. Sadly! I think it’s memory foam as a top layer doesn’t ever work for me, no matter how well it’s made! I will say, this mattress is, by far, less hot than the hybrid Tempur-Pedic I got from Costco and returned for this one, it’s just not quite perfect for me. For $1400 (on One-Day Christmas Sale), including white glove delivery, there’s still nothing else like this on the market though. And it looks like today through Feb 18th, it’s back on sale at $350-off queen and $450-off king. If you’re on a tight budget and looking for a hybrid mattress that’ll last you a long time, feels supportive and slightly cushioning, and comes with free delivery/returns/haul-away, I didn’t find anything to beat this one after nearly 10 months searching online and going to 7 mattress stores, before giving up. Mattress shopping has drastically worsened lately, and if you’re sensing that, you’re not the only one. It’s high prices for lots of marketing and mediocre materials and longevity. One thing I noticed too is the more marketing, influencers, spots in magazine and newspaper rankings, the more the mattress was less impressive when I tried it at a showroom (Saatva IMO) and it’s about the perception of a deal, versus the money going into the mattress components and construction. You see where the budget is being drained and something’s gotta give. This Novaform hybrid is a little nugget of gold, or platinum should we say (okay bad joke 🤭) in all this, at least in my opinion. And if you notice, they don’t market much. Also, I found cotton sheets I like fitting the bed much better, just continue to keep the depth of the mattress in mind, unless slightly too small fitted sheets don’t drive you crazy sliding up the sides of the mattress. You’ll need to specifically find sheets woven and made of fibers minimizing heat retention and cut for deep-pocket mattresses (many sheets only go to 16” and you’d need to be looking for at least 18-20” with this mattress, minimum). Hope this is helpful! It looks like the Costco site has more member reviews now too, mainly positive. Overall the mattress coils feel supportive and thick and the foam layers continue to soften and cradle while still being very supportive. It’s continuing to prove a luxury experience IMO, minus the heat-retention for me. I’m not sure what to do about that anymore, because the bed is so deep, more layers of a featherbed type topper wouldn’t fit the sheets or headboard/footboard height, so I’m on the side of accepting I’m gonna be hot, unless I get like a $4,500 mattress :/ One more thing, I used the savings from the sale to buy a VERY nice mattress protector that’s helping somewhat with the heat and provides a tiny bit more sinkage. The real feature is it’s made for deep mattresses and has plenty of fabric and stretch on the sides, which none of my other mattress protectors could accommodate without slowly lifting off the base of the mattress over a few days timespan. The mattress protector I recommend if you’re looking for one, is from The Company Store (and can we just acknowledge the history of that name…….yeah…..feels like playing in everyone’s face). I don’t really like their company as a whole, yet I cannot find anything of any equivalent quality that’s not several hundred dollars and more difficult to find/order. Here’s a link for anyone interested: •Cool Zzz Mattress Pad - Deep Pocket Queen (check for coupons and price through Home Depot too, as they carry this item online being owned by the same investors)• https://www.thecompanystore.com/cool-zzz-mattress-pad/11122C.html
***Second update….. So I’ve begun waking up the last few days with a lot of hip and lower back pain as the memory foam has definitely softened and seems to soften more quickly when I lay on the mattress (it used to take a little longer to sink in, like 10-12 minutes, now like 5-7 minutes). I really want/need a soft top as a side sleeper with solid support from the springs underneath. I’m super disappointed to say I very likely will need to return this mattress! I don’t want to! Partly because it’s a whopper and I don’t want it to be a huge deal for the return crew trying to squeeze it back up a narrow flight of stairs, yet the depth of sinkage is so great on the top foam layers, probably around 1.5”, it’s causing me to wake up in the middle of the night to put a pillow under my hips. This is such a well-built mattress, plus the service and price. I don’t know what I’m going to do. 😭 I think memory foam just isn’t for me with the way it sinks and heat retention, even with cooling and higher-quality foam. So any side-sleepers out there, perhaps take this into account. I was looking for a medium-firm mattress with plush top and after breaking in this one, to me, it turns to feeling like a plush with some underneath support as body heat builds and softens the foam structure, so it starts off medium-firm, then quickly turns to plush with the depth of sinkage causing hip misalignment and putting pressure on my neck and shoulders. I’ve seen other reviewers say theirs is too firm. Maybe this is where mattress shopping is all very subjective - I just can’t say this is medium-firm at all! I wish it were!
I had to send a king sized mattress back yesterday because the delivery guys couldn't get it up our stairs!! That was a Novaform Platinum Elite or something form costco. I was really bummed but ended up getting a Leesa legend from costco which will come in a box. Stairs are a killer! ours was because we live in an old house and the stairwell has a framed doorway at the bottom and the top of the bottom stair to the door frame wasn't tall enough
Novaform is made by FXI. 8lb in the first, 5lb in the second layer. The transition layer beneath that is 2.5-3lb. FXI manufactured 5-8lb memory foam at some point in the last 15 years, they were even sold as toppers. They clearly brought back similar products to use for this mattress.
The 5lb should be Sensus plus. That's what they sold in the past as 5lb. There's some old forum posts mentioning Venus as their 8lb, it was also softer than Sensus so it's likely similar.
That doesn't mean anything. Most websites for foam companies don't provide details unless you're a customer.
Many companies are like this. You aren't getting full specs on websites. Foamex sold 5-8lb memory foam in the past, they were bought by FXI. There's no reason why they can't make those products again.
Carpenter is doing the exact same thing. Some products have specs, many don't. I'm not sure why this is hard to understand. Elite comfort solutions gives even less information. As far as I'm aware, Future Foam is the only website that lists specs.
It's not as long as you don't spread misinformation. Lacking information yourself doesn't mean it can't exist. I don't see any reason to doubt the companies claim of a specific weight foam, especially when you consider the total weight of that mattress. Where do you think the weight is coming from for a 280lb king? It's probably 60-70% from coils, but that still leaves a lot of weight.
We had a 20-year-old TempurPedic mattress and 9" foundation ordered from a healthcare professional because my partner needed good back support. Recently his back flared up, so we decided to replace it (it was time anyway). We're both heavy people, so we need good support, and I've got arthritis. We tried the Winkbed at a local place that showcases a lot of online mattress brands, and we really liked it, but looking at the customer service horror stories scared us off. It seems people either get a good one and love it or get a defective one and have a terrible time. We went to Macy's and found an Aireloom hotel mattress that was really comfortable (for the 3-5 minutes we tried it in the store), but it was about $3500 with a restocking fee if returned. So, we decided to try a mattress from Costco: the Novaform 16.5" Platinum Luxury Hybrid Euro Top Mattress. This thing is a monster. Our bedframe is an older style with a headboard, footboard, and sideboards (queen size). We were expecting to get rid of the foundation that came with our old TempurPedic along with the mattress itself, so we purchased a very low profile bunkie board from Amazon. We assembled it and put it on top of the 3 wooden slats from the bedframe, thinking the delivery guys would take both of the older pieces, but their paperwork said "mattress only." So they left the old foundation on top of the bunkie board and put the 16.5" new mattress on top. No shade on them. I probably should've requested pickup of the foundation as well. We were going to remove the foundation ourselves, but the Novaform is slightly wider than our bedframe (by about .5 to 1 inch). It would be wedged in between the sideboards, making it very difficult to make the bed. On top of all this, the Novaform has not been comfortable for us. So I initiated the return today. We've decided we need a 5" foundation or bunkie board to keep the bottom of the mattress level with the top of the sideboard to make putting sheets on it easier. So we're trying to decide on whatever mattress we want to try next, probably from Costco. We're so tired.
Today I was able to get the Tempur foundation out/off the bed, so the Novaform is sitting on the bunkie board directly, and it feels a lot different. We're going to give it a try tonight. Hopefully we won't have to return it after all!
After sleeping on this mattress for over a month, I am returning it. It never truly softened to a medium as advertised. It never even got to a medium-firm. I believe this mattress is truly a firm. Disappointed as I was so excited about this mattress. Now I can't wait to get rid of it and be done with it.
Just received it yesterday. I know its too soon to say and others have said its firm initially. And yes, it is FIRM. But it's only day 2. Will update after a month. Excited as others have said it softened significantly. Delivery was a breeze. I felt bad for the two guys as I could tell it was really heavy.
