I bought a Purple Premier Hybrid 4 a few years back when they were still selling them. It has honestly been the only mattress that has worked for me and I have similar needs to yours. Very sensitive back, curvy side sleeper. Been as much as 225 and as small as 125 on this mattress— great in all cases. The only thing I hate about it is it’s heavy and hard to move even to nudge a small amount. But on the upside, even edge support is good! I kept buying/trying/returning other brands and they were just awful for multiple reasons or would get a body impression in nothing flat - not comfortable for r supportive imo at that point. I honestly would try Purple again despite some of the recent concerns. Short of that, I recommend looking at what Costco offers. They will come pick up and return your money at any time during the mattress warranty period if it fails.
We initially went with the Purple 3 and it was too hard for us. We upgraded to the 4 and it's bliss.
Yes! I was a hot sleeper even before peri and this saved me.
King Size Purple 4. Best mattress I’ve ever had. It’s so good it makes traveling suck because even 5 star hotels can’t hold a candle to it.
In the years that I’ve had it I’ve fluctuated between 350lbs and 400lbs, and I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that after 5 years it’s as good as new, but it’s holding up pretty well. Rotating it helps so that the part crushed by my upper body moves to be under my wife’s legs and the part under my wife’s legs gets a turn being crushed by my upper body, but I still notice it’s not as firm as it was brand new. But I still feel like I have great support without any pressure points, way better than any mattress I’ve had before, and I’ve fully crushed inner spring mattresses so badly that I could literally feel the plywood of my platform bed-frame through the night.
The first week or two on the purple was awful because I woke up feeling like my ribs had been tenderized with a baseball bat. I’d been so used to my shoulders and hips holding all of my weight that my ribs weren’t used to doing anything. But that went away quickly.
Depending on which city you’re in I would recommend looking into discontinued models at Mattress Firm! Not many people even my coworkers know how to access the list but they’re unused beds(meaning you still get the 120 night trial period) but discontinued 50%-80% off! I’m in San Antonio and that’s how I got my gf a purple 4 which used to go for $3,000+ for around $700!! I’ve cleared out most of the stock here in SA but when I look at other cities there’s a bunch of stuff!! Best of luck!!
Is that why Costco can sell their latest Stearns & Foster offering (the Kirkland Lakeridge line) at such a low price? They recently added the Tight Top variant, which has caught my attention. I’m not a brand snob—I base my decisions on feel and long-term performance. Years ago, I visited several mattress stores and tested various Serta iSeries models (I can’t recall the exact one), but I ended up buying from Sears (back when it was around). It was decent at first—exactly as advertised, firm and supportive for the initial two months. Then it started developing a light-to-dark yellow discoloration across the entire surface, even with a thick waterproof mattress pad encasing it fully. Glad that headache is over. My current Purple 4-inch Hybrid Premier has also become too soft and uncomfortable for my needs. I’ve seen recommendations here for the Sealy Lincoln Heights Firm, but the new Kirkland Lakeridge Tight Top (just released) seems worth considering. The only negative review I spotted was from an unverified account. What are your experiences with these?
Please for the love of god do NOT buy a purple…I just replaced mine after only 5 years, and it’s been awful for the last 3 years. I replaced it with a Tempur Pedic ProAdapt Hybrod Medium. So far so good.
Yes, I did some research before purchasing it and noticed that it seemed to be a 50/50 split with reviews. I’m ok with that part, but what I’m not ok with is the bed falling apart. That is exactly what I’m trying to avoid (I guess we all are lol) because my purple 4 was such a massive flop. It was great initially but once it lost its rigidity it was a wrap…bed practically turned me into a cripple I shit you not. I wouldn’t care so much if wasn’t such an expensive bed. The whole reason I tend to buy a nicer mattress is for an above average sleep, and longevity. Buy once cry once ya know? With mattresses though that’s becoming harder to find. As for our experience (my wife and I) we love this proadapt so far. Just like you from day one we found it comfortable, and honestly I don’t find it firm at all. Granted I don’t find it super soft either, but for me it has just enough give to allow for the pressure relief to be very noticeable in the shoulder area when on your side, but firm enough to hold your hips up. My back issues have subsided immensely. My posture has improved, and my pelvic tilt seems to slowly be correcting itself. I used to have issues whenever I’d have to stand, and walk. Everyday I’d have to lay on a heating pad to deal with the pain in my SI joint, it was seriously awful. I haven’t had any significant back pain since after the first week of sleeping on this bed. It’s honestly hard to put into words how happy I am with this bed lol! Pain sucks, and to be able to move around like a normal person again is amazing. I have noticed though compared to the purple this bed does sleep warmer. I live in PA and it just started to warm up finally, and we had a couple nights where we were hot. We just put our AC in last night, and that fixed that issue. Sheets are going to be very important with this bed though for sure as I think that plays a big role in keeping the bed at a good temperature. Overall though I love this bed, and as long as I can get some longevity out of it I will be a proadapt user for life. I’ve slept on other tempurs and this one by far is the most comfortable. Best of luck with yours!!
I have a purple 4 back when it was called that. And I absolutely love it. I don’t think I could sleep on anything else now. When I travel, I have a hard time sleeping. I’m a side sleeper and firm mattresses end up hurting my shoulder. I like how the purple feels like I’m being cradled by a cloud. I’ve been working on finding the perfect pillow especially because I use a full faced cpap. I’ve been trying all kinds of pillows and decided to give purple pillows a shot. Their harmony pillow is pretty good but I moved to their original pillow and with one riser it’s been pretty perfect for me so far.
I have a purple mattress and pillow and will never have anything else, but I also have scoliosis and severe hip and shoulder pain and it's the only thing soft and firm enough for me. It's not for everyone, but the purple 4 is magic for me.
I have the purple 4, and yes, they have bases that can raise and lower parts of the bed.
I learned this when my $4k purple 4 mattress gave out after 2 years. All these mattress companies are fly by night and they all suck and will not last long no matter what you buy. At that point I figured if I'm going to be replacing it every 2-3 years might as well just get a good priced one, so I picked up a hybrid mattress from Sams Club, Members Mark baby. It's been doing the job just fine and it was only 500 bucks.
I love my Purple 4 mattress. I wonder how it compares to the newer ones, though. My fiancé and I were looking to get one but saw they've changed their models.
