I’ve had my purple 2 mattress for almost 8 years now, and it’s still the best mattress I’ve slept on. I don’t get hot, and it’s the right amount of firm/softness. My husband is a human furnace and occasionally he will get too warm, but it’s not often. My in laws purple 4 and it was soooo squishy and uncomfortable to me.

I have an older purple mattress and it was named the hybrid, not sure what the name would be today. Its the purple base with a medium size soft top layer. I feel like its similar to a hotel mattress. People either love or hate the purple mattress, the good thing is they have a trial period.

I got a purple 2 hybrid four years ago and spend a lot of time in bed for disability reasons. It's not perfect, for sure, and there's some sagging on the edges where I slide in and out of bed, but I went to the in person store and tested out a bunch of options and don't know that I could have found one I like more. Because I'm a combo back and side person, I don't think there's a single firmness that would work for me in both positions. It was probably overpriced, but I don't have a baseline for that. But it's all gonna be personal. I tend to overheat where I'm touching a mattress, so the grid works for me better than some, but i can imagine it being a sensory nightmare to someone else. Some people love high quality memory foam, other's hate it. Going in person is useful for figuring out what you actually like. Unless you've done this before, it's very hard to know if you want firm or soft, let alone what that means across different brands. People on this sub tend to love recommending a DIY latex mattress, but those are basically impossible to test out without first ordering and are extremely heavy and cumbersome to set up for some.

I owned a Purple 2 for a number of years and more recently a Helix Midnight Luxe (with the cooling cover) for a bit over a year now. The purple held its shape fairly well, but had some slight indentation after probably 6 years or so. Wasn’t really noticeable and didn’t affect function. Neither my wife or I are very large people so results may vary there. Overall the cooling was unmatched, I’ve never slept cooler than on the Purple mattress, especially combined with their bamboo sheets. The bed itself was very comfortable, especially in terms of that sink in feeling, but the latex grid does take a little getting used to vs a traditional mattress. After a while I did wake up with some back pain occasionally but nothing major, while my wife on the other hand suffered back pain much more regularly. For reference, we’re both primarily side sleepers. The Helix definitely sleeps hotter and that was an adjustment, but I wouldn’t call it bad or too hot, just comparatively hotter than the Purple. It’s also much stiffer compared to the Purple 2 (older model, I think it meant 2” of the latex grid topper at the time) so you don’t get that “sink in” feeling, and if you were comparing them side by side in the store, the Helix would feel less “comfortable”. Now with that being said, the Helix is significantly better for side sleeping. We both sleep like a rock on it every night, it has severely reduced our tossing and turning, and neither of us ever wake up with any pain anymore. We also find ourselves missing this mattress when traveling much more than we ever did with the Purple. So of the two I’ve used, if you value cool sleep over everything, I would recommend a Purple, but wouldn’t be of any help deciding on the current models. If you’re a side sleeper and want the most supportive mattress for that, and you value good, supported sleep over maximum cooling, I’d definitely recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe. I paid around $2k for each mattress and felt both were a good value. They are both significantly more comfortable than cheaper mattresses I’ve owned or have slept on, and in my limited use, have held up well.

I have had two Tuft & Needle mattresses, when we sold our house furnished, the buyers wanted the bedroom furniture including the mattress so we just ordered a new one (they no longer make the old model we had). We hate it. I find myself laying on our guest bed a lot (and loving it ) which is a $200 hybrid mattress off Amazon and we're considering just buying one of those. We stayed at an AirBNB that had a Purple mattress that we loved, I took pictures of the tag, they no longer make THAT one so killed that plan.

I like a firm/cool mattress & got the purple hybrid 2nd hand (like new, just unboxed) for $600 ~5 years ago and it has been awesome, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

We have had a purple hybrid the last five years. It’s an amazing mattress. I sleep hot and I feel like the mattress is breathable. I don’t bother my spouse when I move and I feel like the motion is very isolated. I also tend to have back issues and don’t have pain from sleeping anymore. I love it. Worth the investment

I would strongly recommend that you go loitering in whatever mattress store you have nearby and see what feels good after laying on it for a sizeable amount of time. You should get a good feel of what you’re buying before you make that big of an investment. My partner and I both fell in love with our Purple Hybrid straight away. I was healing from my spinal surgery at the time and he’s a good sized construction worker with back pain. Our bed allows you lay however you want and it almost feels like you’re floating while keeping your back straight. It’s friggin awesome. It’s actually really hard to get out of bed in the morning because the back pain is at a zero
