I think about $1500 but that was about 15 years ago. It's a king size dual control select comfort bed with 3 different zones that you can adjust individually. Since the zones are air bags, feels just as good today as it did new. Worth the price.

I’m on year 20 with my Sleep Number 5000. My weight has fluctuated between 305 to 365.

I have been using the same Sleep Number mattress for 20+ years now. My weight has fluctuated from a high of 365 to my current weight of 305.

This doesn't answer your question directly. I paid for a sleep number bed around 2005 and am still using it. It is the perfect bed, as firm or plush and needed. On my model the top unzips for cleaning (when is the last time you could clean a mattress?). Without springs, there aren't any spring related issues. Not being made of foam, there are no break down issues. There is foam inside around the air chambers, and a memory foam pillow top, but all of those pieces can be removed and replaced if needed (not needed so far). They have a 15 year warranty. Around year 13 there was an issue with the air unit, they replaced it with a new one - giving us additional features. It is more than the $1,000 you were asking about, but it may last long enough to make up the difference.

r/buyforlifetipsWhat's the best mattress I can buy right now?

I have a sleep number bed that's adjustable for firmness for each side. I almost never feel my very restless husband move around at night unless he kicks me. This is the second one I've had, we moved up a size, so I've had these types of mattresses for 25+ years so while they're expensive, you're not going to have to replace it for a long time. (the old one went to the guest room). The thing I like best about it is when I've hurt my back and thought I needed it harder or softer, I could just change it. Didn't have to get a new mattress for a temporary condition. I call it the "no regrets" mattress.

I ended up making the plunge and bought a sleep number bed. Because of my back I like a firmer mattress while my wife prefers a softer one. We got the split king with the adjustable base. It was EXPENSIVE but worth it.

r/GenXAs we get older, more pain everywhere, what kind of mattress are we going with now?

Not sleep number. Sure you can infinitely adjust it, but it's still just a hard air mattress under a couple layers of foam. I have a rotator cuff injury that got worse with the bed because the soft layer is so unforgiving once it's compressed.

If you're not sure and don't want to commit, why not try a Sleep Number bed? My wife and I have a split king with an adjustable platform (not Sleep Number brand). It's saved us time and time again from various physical ailments and positional requirements.

We got a sleep number several months ago and also love it. We went with a solid base so it doesn’t adjust that way (and saved a decent amount on cost) but being able to adjust separate sides of the bed for firmness is awesome. It’s also sleeps so so so much cooler (temp wise) than any of the memory foam/hybrid mattresses we had for the 15 years prior. Highly recommend. Glad to see long term owners commenting here - I’m hopeful ours lasts a long time.

We're on our second SleepNumber mattress. First one lasted 12+ years until we decided to upgrade. When the time came, there was no question about buying another SleepNumber. We're 100% happy with SleepNumber beds. The newer one cost approx $4k

I had a king size sleep number for about two days. No one tells you the king size has a huge, uncomfortable bar down the middle and no matter what you do, the air mattress pushes you towards that bar. You can’t fix air mattress physics. Also, it’s not everything but sex on two twin air mattresses glued together sucks.
