Enlightened Equipment - Revelation Sleeping Quilt

I use 20F quilt in summer in PNW, in June I would take it up to 6000 feet. Enlightened Equipment Enigma 20F would have you covered for $256 right now. Get 10F model and a draft collar if you want a bit of extra warmth security.

192cm here. Long versions of Feathered Friends, Western Mountaineering, or Enlightened Equipment bags. For your temp range I use 20F EE quilt. For a tent, you can also get something longer. I use Tarptent Rainbow which leaves me with almost 30 cm to spare length wise.

I have both an EE Revelation 20F and EE Revelation Apex 20F. The synthetic (Apex) takes up noticeably more room in my pack. But I don't really notice the minimal weight difference. Only time I take the synthetic is when I am heading out to the coast since it is always moist air there - day in and day out. Down just doesn't keep you as warm under those conditions. For trips where there might be rain I don't really consider taking the synthetic. I can be pretty cautious about unpacking the down quilt from my pack without exposing it directly to the rain. If it is going to be raining the entire time then I'll take synthetic because it is pretty much the same as being on the coast. Another thing I've found helpful is, if you can find a very thin fleece blanket to lay over your down quilt when you know you are going to face condensation that might end up soaking your quilt it really can help with moisture management. I have one that is just barely big enough to cover my quilt and is about 100 weight (gsm?) synthetic fleece. It catches the condensation from rubbing your quilt on the tent walls or it dripping on your quilt. And the synthetic does a great job at causing it to evaporate. The combination of the down quilt + the fleece still weight less than an apex quilt alone. And I only take it when I know there will be condensation.

It's overkill. But your problem is the Switchback. If you're a cold sleeper you need an inflatable with minimum R3. If you're still cold after upgrading your pad, sell the 20º EE and get either a 10º EE or another 10º quilt. I sleep cold too and did the trail with EE Revelation 20º but I carried a Sea To Summit Etherlight pad with R3.2 and when it was still cold I slept in my puffy and base layers. you might also look into ultralight options for sleep accessories like down booties or a down sleep balaclava/hood

Also others have mentioned make sure your sleeping pad is sufficient. This is a huge factor and often overlooked. Also this may sound counter intuitive but if you have too many layers that can also make you cold. (I'm no scientist so I could just be talking out of my ass but this is my personal experience) I don't recall the exact science behind it, but something along the lines of you're expecting the thick blanket to be the main insulator, and if your body heat can't reach the blanket, you can't heat it up so the blanket could be trapping cooler air in. Or not distributing heat properly since say your atom AR might be trapping the heat in for your chest, but the heat radiating from the legs isn't sufficient to heat the blanket. If you truly think your blanket should be warm enough, try ditching the jacket and see if that helps. I know this from backpacking a lot, but my down quilt might insulate better than your blanket 🤷

I'll second an EE quilt. I love my EE Revelation -6C quilt for 3 season use on vancouver island. No issues with draftiness, and as someone who tosses and turns when he sleeps, I love it compared to being trapped in a bag and having to wake up more to initiate a turnover. I find it's more like sleeping in a bed with a normal blanket compared to the feeling of a sleeping bag.

Get an enlightened equipment quilt, best decision I've ever made--I've been using a 5 C one for summer rainforest/coastal alpine, and just ordered a -12 C during their sale (sorry, ya missed it!) for going to Jasper this summer. By far the best quality and everything sleeping bag thingy I've ever used, and much prefer quilts over bags now. I personally would buy once buy right and stay far away from Chinese mass made garbage that could degrade within a couple trips with no support or real warranty or contact info.

Your bag is heavy. I have an EE 10 degree long/wide quilt that is 1.66 lbs so about a pound lighter than yours. It cost me about $450 so you don't need to spend $1000 for sure. You can for sure save some weight there.

I ended up upgrading to a enlightened equipment two-person 850fp down quilt. Super light and packable but cost a fortune. It was worth it because we take it backpacking and have traveled internationally with it.

Two sleeping pads + sleeping pad coupling straps to hold them together (OR the thermarest luxe coupling sheet, not UL but it was a game changer for us) + 2 person quilt. My husband and I use the thermarest neoair xlites and the enlightened equipment 2p quilt. We love being able to cuddle but also separate ourselves or sprawl onto each other's sleeping pads.
