My NEMO Disco 15 (Mens long) compresses to about 9" X 11"
I have the nemo disco 15 in the big boy size. If you get cold easily, I'd recommend the little bit of extra bulk and weight for the 15. The spoon shape is much nicer than a mummy bag.
I have the disco men's long in -9C and used it in the rockies on a trip we got snowed on with a good sleeping pad. I would say it's a little cold for late fall. Or the one I have is a bit underfilled maybe. I also find it a bit tight but my shoulders are about 24" across so I'm pretty big. Sea to summit ascent II looks to be an upgrade warmth wise and has a better zipper for venting.
I sleep like you and it’s been the bane of my backpacking experience for the last 40 or so years. A few years ago, my husband bought me a Nemo side sleeper sleeping bag for Christmas. I was a little skeptical, but it actually helps a lot. I can’t remember what it’s rated to. It’s definitely not for extremely cold nights, but I don’t know if there are options in that. For car camping one of the main things I do is carry a wider pad. That way when I pull my knee up into the side, it at least stays on the pad and isn’t on the cold hard ground. As someone else mentioned, I also keep some extra gear in a stuff sack, and use that underneath my knee, which helps for warmth and back comfort.
I have had a nemo disco 15 bag, two EE and now a Zenbivy 10 degree light bed with half sheet. The Zenbivy is by far warmer than EE and to the moon and back more comfortable than EE and the Disco. I was skeptical of Zenbivy but it is a quality product. I use a Ultra 3R exped pad for three season and a 5R in cold season.
Get a disco 15 from Nemo. Only use kelty in the summers.
I have a disco 15 and love it. Alternatively you can get a fleece bag liner to add some warmth that way instead of a whole new bag.
Awesome. I have a disco 15 that I use for Algonquin but nothing ready for the cold we’ve been getting lately.
hi!!! i am a lady and have the disco 15. i am in love with it. your wife might like this one- you can unzip gills if you get too hot though i never over heat in mine. so squishy
I think your pad is a bit over the top for the Rockies for 3 season but too much is better than too little. I use a 15 deg Nemo Disco 650 down had it for five years and have its perfect. I’m about to hand it down to my son and buy the new version, might splurge for the 800fp just to save to 100g! I do take thicker base layers in the late season.
If you’re fine with a mummy bag get the Coda, it’s a bit lighter and warmer. I got the disco as I’m a side sleeper, I find the extra room makes a difference for me. I haven’t tried a quilt and probably never will, drafts are a thing and the weather in the mountains can change drastically, I know I’m good in a bag. I misspoke before, getting the Riff to replace the Disco. Riff basically a lighter disco.
Your sleeping pad is fine albeit a bit heavy. I’m not familiar with Nordisk products but very familiar with Nemo. Given your budget I’d go with the Nemo Disco instead of the Riff. I’ve used a Nemo Disco 650 fill 15degF bag backpacking in the Canadian Rockies for seven years and I can wholeheartedly recommend this bag. It’s warm enough for three season camping to below freezing temps (with the right base layer) and I’ve even used it winter camping down to -10degC. Yes, you want hydrophobic down as in certain weather you’ll get more condensation inside your tent. I’m upgrading to the Nemo Riff as I’m handing down my Disco to my son. The only advantage of the Riff’s 800 fill down is it’s slightly lighter and should be slightly more packable. I’d get it if your budget allows but honestly I’d get the disco and use the savings towards a lighter sleep pad or some other gear upgrade.
Nemo’s spoon shaped bags are quite roomy, probably one of the spaciest mummy-ish bag.
