Did you get the new magma 15? I got each the 30 and the 15 and while I love them, I feel like there’s such a huge gap in temp conditions. The 15 I’ve slept in down to about 22 and it was WAY too warm still. If I slept in the 30 down to 22 I’d undoubtedly be cold. I just think it’s bizarre they came out with two bags that seemingly have a huge gap.
r/backpacking • What's a piece of gear you splurged on that was totally worth it? ->I got an REI Magma 30 on sale last year for like $230. I absolutely love it and it weighs in at least than 1.5 pounds. I haven't really tested the limits of the quilt by itself, but it's definitely warm enough to wear lightweight sleep clothes down to about 40F. With warmer base layers I could probably nudge it down to freezing.
r/WildernessBackpacking • Lightweight Sleeping Bags ->I have an older REI Half Dome 2+ that I love. It's (barely) light enough for short backpacking trips, spacious enough that I have room to spread out when car camping, but not so big that it's a hassle to set up or put away. I camp in it by myself, but it's big enough my husband or a friend could share it with me and we wouldn't feel cramped (a lot of "2-person" tents have dimensions that, unless you're full-on snuggling all night, are not going to be at all comfortable for two to share). I'm also a quilt convert. I have to be able to kick a leg out when I'm sleeping, and traditional sleeping bags are usually too constrictive for me. I have an REI Magma 30 quilt and I really like it. You're going to want to try on backpacks in person so you can be sure the harness and hip belt work for you. They're all a little different so recommendations are hard to make. That being said, I'm extremely happy with my Gregory Deva 60. It's ridiculously heavy (well over 4.5 pounds) but fits so well I forget I'm wearing it. The hip belt works so well with my body that I can lift the load completely off my shoulders and carry all the weight on my hips if I want. If you don't have to get this stuff right away, sign up to be an REI member and wait a few weeks. They have a big members-only sale in March, and their biggest sale of the year is around Memorial Day. You'll also have access to REI Resupply where they sell used equipment. You can get some crazy good deals on barely-used gear there.
r/womensolocamping • Newbie ->REI magma 30. It’s down so packs small and it’s <$400. If you have a larger budget, go with the other posters recommendation.
r/CampingGear • Anyone have a recommendation for 30 degree sleeping bags that take up minimum space? ->Seconding this one. I just got one this year and really like it.
r/CampingGear • Anyone have a recommendation for 30 degree sleeping bags that take up minimum space? ->Go with the REI Magma 30, it's ultralight, packs small, and perfect for 45°F with an underquilt. It's 329 on rei official website. Many reviewers highlight how it’s easy to vent or cinch, works great as both a quilt and a blanket, and is ideal for backpacking or hammock setups. On the other hand, you coulld also take a look at NEMO Disco 15, maybe an overkill for 45°F but insanely comfy and reliable — great long-term buy if you value warmth and durability over pack size. FWIW, I recently did an analysis on Reddit data for sleeping pads. Basically ranked them by aggregated sentiment. Maybe you'll find it helpful [https://redditrecs.com/sleeping-pad/](https://redditrecs.com/sleeping-pad/) You can filter and get a breakdown of what ppl have said about the most often recommended ones (disclaimer some links are affiliate they help fund the analyses)
r/BuyItForLife • Ultra compact sleeping bags that cover me down to 45 degrees, are Amazon generics adequate or can I nab quality for $1-200? ->Three seasons where exactly? A better question may be will your trips ever have nights below freezing? You did say "at least..." so I imagine yes? If so, I'd look at the REI Magma 15. If not, try the Magma 30, or Magma quilt. There are plenty more options from really good companies, but since this is a REI subreddit, I thought I'd mention them. Make sure you have a good, warm sleeping pad. And I'm a fan of liners. Keeps the bag clean, and add some warmth too.
r/REI • Best sleeping bag that packs small? ->Its pretty shocking how heavy TNF and other brand 2 person tents are, 4, 5 and 6 lbs usually. Once you hit that 2 LB or so mark...holy crap...its a whole new world. Same for dumping my heavy 0 degree down bags for 15 and 30s. POOF...there goes another 1.5 lbs at least. The backpack empty weight is a hard one. I have a couple TNF Prophets I like. they're sturdy enough for 65 Liter capacity and only about 3 lbs. Most 65L packs however are in the 4-6 lbs range empty. I tried a Crown 60 and didn't have a great time with it. I should try it again since I think some other factors added to the misery (rain, shoes weren't great, too much fishing gear). I'll also shill for Facebook Marketplace: You'd be shocked at how many people are moving in and out of your area, giving up the hobbies they have and you can get a pretty good deal on nice equipment if you're polite and actually show up to buy it. Both my Big Agnes tents were acquired that way and I'm so glad I snagged them at about 50% off barely used.
r/backpacking • What's a piece of gear you splurged on that was totally worth it? ->Its not the new one. When REI had their clear out of the model they've been selling the last few years, I bought 3 30s and one of the 15s. Got them for under 80 or so each.
r/backpacking • What's a piece of gear you splurged on that was totally worth it? ->30 for lower elevations summer...15 for high elevation for me every time.
r/backpacking • What's a piece of gear you splurged on that was totally worth it? ->I just got the magma 30 and would recommend. Compact, lightweight, and very cozy.
r/backpacking • Advice on These Sleeping Bags ->Second the Magma 30 quilt. Incredibly small, light and ive never gotten cold with it (until I took it out into freezing temps, which is on me).
r/REI • New to Backpacking - Gear Recs? ->I bought the REI Magma 30 quilt in a large, where I would usually buy a medium. It has a sewn footbox. As a side sleeper, with the extra length and width, it works excellent for those warmer nights as it's long enough I don't have to put my feet in the box. Also, I lay the top out flat when I get warm and cinch up the upper when it's cold. I'm sure this is no real revelation for many, but OP may appreciate the versatility. For me, I've slept in it down to 30 with light weight base layers, and have found I can stay comfortable up to high 60s. Humidity does impact that upper end comfort.
r/CampingandHiking • Best sleeping bag that can also turn into a quilt? ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS
